@lithium said in Good or New Movies Review:

@aria LOL Not only that but, how were they flying the planet around to different suns again?

Then Han Solo showed up to fly it faster, 12 parsecs on the Kessel run. This super fast glitterstim run was observed metaphysically by force users and confirmed to be true. Qui Gon convinced a sentient sub atomic species to verify the accuracy of these results.

I'm just a surge protector doing my job, sir.

Whats insane to me is that there was no plan for this trilogy and the plan for the third movie is only now being formulated. (I believe I read that JJ Abrams made his third movie pitch last week?)

I get it. The original Star Wars Trilogy wasn't completely planned. A New Hope was filmed and shot so that if it wasn't well received it could stand on its own.

Star Wars is now a 6-7 Billion dollar franchise and they are just... fucking... winging it?

I guess if you just pump a few million dollars into marketing and buying off reviewers, it doesn't matter what crap you make.

I think in this case it's less winging it and more that Carrie Fisher died. From what I read Leia had been intended to be a giant part of the final film to the trilogy so they have had to scrap the entire thing.

@aria but you're ok with the space wizards and the arbitrarily terminated laser sticks?

@kanye-qwest We didn't cover lasersticks in my astrophysics classes. 😛

@kanye-qwest Laser sticks are not arbitrarily terminating, they are actually bound by a cohesive magnetic field which is why they actually /clash/ and have impacts against each other. To an extent.

@jennkryst The difference being that faux-science that may or may not be feasible because we haven't proven it yet (coherent light swords wrapped in magnetic containment fields) vs Physics We Know ( Objects in motion stay in motion without outside forces, and other such generic physics).

And simple Auto-Pilot... /we/ have auto pilot for planes, boats, etc, I would think if you could invent space travel and hyperdrive, you could invent an autopilot.

You could invent a droid that can pilot things. Like the one in the film.

@Lotherio said it better than I could, but apparently picking on fiction not yet having reverse-explained nonsense fantasy elements is the thing to do right now.

They could have just had the Imperials New Order fleet do some kind of fancy magnetic tether to the Rebel Resistance fleet.

So I could not sleep and thus watched Bright on Netflix. It was not a great film but definitely kept my attention for a few hours and I loved the worldbuilding.

Hell, it was basically a buddy cop movie set in the Shadowrun universe, also there was a brief shot of a centaur riot cop and also a dragon over the LA sky line with no further explanation.

@packrat Yeah, I just finished it. I thought it was going to be a miniseries, and was sad it was so short, but it was a fun will smith experience in Shadowrun.

Have not watched it yet but that was my general impression from the trailer, does not look like a particularly good move but looks enjoyable and fun which works just as well in my opinion.
After all some of my favorite movies are not good. (Glance at his DVD player in which Big Trouble in Little China currently resides.)

I read a bunch of reviews where the critics were bitching about the brand of humor and lack of depth/range and all the descriptions made me wonder if the critic realized that the Will Smith formula is, you know, why people watch his silly movies (as opposed to his not silly movies where he isn't just doing a Will Smith thing) in the first place.

I also watched Bright past night. I enjoyed it and would happily watch a sequel.

I watched it this afternoon. I'm not going to pretend this is some cinematic classic, but I liked it just fine and thought it was a fun spin on both genres. Would watch more.

David and I watched Bright as well. I thought it was great, and critics are maybe being a little jaded about it.

Bright would make a good TV series.
