Lularoe... is that the place I can get penguin leggings?
-
@Catsmeow: If you can find them, yes! It depends on the stock that a given consultant has. Patterns are random, and I imagine penguin leggings would be super hot and sell quickly. But I've seen a penguin pattern or two out there.
Today I am wearing black leggings with a multi-color motif of macaroons and lollipops and candies.

My friend got hedgehog ones. The material feels super soft.

My wife got me my birthday present a week early and gave it to me for the office. I can now finally drink acceptable coffee at the office.
(The mug and the weird double-walled glass aren't the present. The grinder and the french press are.)
-
A good bean grinder is on my list of things I need for coffee. I have a french press and an Aeropress. Being able to grind my own coffee would be lovely.
-
@Auspice
That hand-held one I've got is perfect for my usual use case (making one mug of coffee for me in the morning; I usually drink tea the rest of the day, hence the double-walled glass cup to the left). It's a burr grinder with ceramic burrs, so no rusting problem. It's eminently washable and it takes me about 30 seconds to grind enough beans for a single-serving French press like the one I've got. -
Sports massage. It hurts so good.

My wife is now a certified Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
She got her passing NCLEX results this morning. So very proud of what she has accomplished!
-
That's so awesome, @Misadventure. I've got a couple of friends who've been through Nursing school, and the NCLEX seems like a beast.
-
One of my students gave me a birthday present on Sunday. It included these:
Some mandarin oranges. The ruler was absolutely necessary for scale, yes.
Some honey from her grandfather's apiary.
Some rambutans (a.k.a. "the product of mating a lychee with one of the nastier breeds of spider").
Sometimes it's nice being a teacher here, even if it is only part-time in a rented classroom.

So... White Wolf recently hired Zak S. to write for them.
If you're not familiar with this guy and his "ew girls don't belong in games" style of sexism, here's some reading material (more easily found via Google).
Anyway. A good friend who is in the gaming industry (she's worked for SOE, Green Ronin, is now working for Mayfair Games to be the big marketing / Con person for Catan, runs her own tabletop gamng con) encouraged people to contact White Wolf about this.
I decided I would, because... shit. They've got enough issues. And hiring a guy who is a known problem in the industry is just lame. My argument was that a large part of their fanbase is female and this guy won't be helping. And, hey, there's awesome female (or LGBT, or POCs, etc) writers out there that would probably love to work for them. ...including myself.
...I've been asked to send over my writing portfolio. Which... I just happen to have been working on getting a solid one up and running.
So not a guarantee, but hey. Maybe something awesome will come of this.

Wonder what Brucato would have to say about it.

Quite a bit, I bet. The wording on the email I got back had this hint of 'Yes some of us are very bothered by it too and we desperately do want more diversity here.'
So I do not think there's widespread approval of Zak's hiring at WW.
-
Welp, I won't be buying any products this dong contributes to. Thank you for making me aware of his existence.

I especially 'liked' learning that he tries to attribute the disdain he's earned to 'people just hate me because I did porn and they're shaming me.'
No, no, buddy, that's not it. People dislike you because you're a sexist tool.

@Auspice
Actual WW or OPP is having you send over writing? Because WW has been fully in support of Zak's hiring and has plans to have him working on Vampire 5e. If actual WW, your response represents a big spin from what they had posted prior. -

If actual WW, your response represents a big spin from what they had posted prior.Reply was from a Manager within White Wolf. There was no direct 'We don't support this,' but it was kind of a read between the lines because they mentioned two openly-trans writers that have freelanced for them in the past, and included how they'd love to see more diversity themselves.
It felt less of a 'this is an official press release response' and more of a 'If you've got the stuff, I would love to be able to put it out there.'
She also gave a form that I'm happy to pass on where people can submit to be considered for their pool of folks: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf4kO-9mnBjDjAJ4xYDiz8V_lX2uMOWM0mxZ4MCxG7P-FVQ5w/viewform (Edited to add: this form is for the whole spectrum: writers, musicians, and visual artists)
The feel I get is they're not getting a spectrum of diversity applying (may be due to past issues) and some of them desperately want said folks.
-
@Auspice
Cool. And also congrats! I am a fucking heel for not putting that in the original post. I was just a little surprised, considering their blog posts were in full support of Zak and had essentially said 'we researched and found no provable incidents and evidence of stuff'. Which really made things even worse.Anyway. Super awesome for you. It makes me kinda want to finish up my profile and send it over, since I really kinda... don't want to deal with OPP in that same manner.
-
It's all good! I just wanted to clarify that yeah, it wasn't like a form-letter 'this is our press release' kind of reply. It definitely had the feel of someone who is there, who wants to and has a limited capacity to make things happen.
