For 'security' the parent company of my client super-locked down access to admin portals. Which lost us our access to do a very core component of our job.

The client has supposedly been fighting for us to get our access back.
      For five months.

      Supposedly.

And now they're annoyed at us asking them to perform tasks for us.
      That we can't do.

Like maybe if you guys would get us our access back we wouldn't have to ask you to perform these tasks?
      Just a thought.

@Ghost if it's any consolation, you can always go PC after you're in for a bit and catch wind of enough dirt. Sure you'll be labeled a snitch indefinitely and all that comes with that, but at least you'll get a nice Seg/PC cell with a narrow window, and 23 hour lockdown.

At least until any information you could have provided has been exhausted and you get tossed back into GenPop.

Or buy up a ton of supplies and start your own fifi production company. Like a nasty prison Etsy shop or something. Become the prison pocket pussy Kingpin.

This one doesn't come from me, but a comment in 'Things I Love' reminded me.

Manager of an engineer: "I completely agree with you technically, but I can't go against the direction of my peers so I'm going to have to tell you not to do it."

Manager of that manager: "This isn't important enough for me. Do what he says."

Manager of that manager (a senior VP): "You're probably right, but do what he says."

The bigger the company, the more likely this is going to happen. This happened in an extremely big company.

That moment you just completely lose the last shred of faith you had in somebody you cared about... really kinda a lot.

                Really hate that moment.

Class this month is another short film script. My film, in brief...

                                Backstory (pre-film):
Girl and her father were in a horrible car accident. Girl's father died. Girl lost (part of) her leg. She's got a prosthetic, has been re-learning to walk...

...in the film, she wants to run in a charity marathon. For people with disabilities. She has a severely (due to the accident) overprotective mother who doesn't think she's ready. The film is about her basically proving to her mother (and, by extension, herself) that she is ready and able to do this thing.

So the end of it is her successfully running the marathon, heartwarming bit with her mother, etc, etc...

...Everyone in my class loves it. Actually have a classmate who does have a prosthetic limb who really digs it and has offered to give me direct feedback with it.

Except my instructor. My instructor thinks the story has absolutely no "structure."

                                Her reason?

"No mother would ever discourage their child from trying something new."

That's it. That is her entire reason my story idea doesn't work. And now, tonight, for our weekly lecture/call, the whole class has to sit through her 'workshopping' my film because she alone thinks it doesn't work.

I've been miserable for days over this.

@Auspice Clearly they have no idea about the wide variety of mothers out there.

Some of them are so over protective they don't let their child do /anything/ and others smother any attempt at reaching to new heights.

Sometimes this is based out of fear for the child, fear of losing the child, or just some psychotic need to dominate their offspring in order to have a sense of power for themselves.

I'd say to do it anyways and prove them wrong.

Precisely. I've detailed the mother's motivations repeatedly. She lost the girl's father already. She's afraid of losing the daughter (exactly one of the motivations you've listed). The whole premise of the story is the girl proving that she's capable and them growing stronger as a new family in the wake of the tragedy. It works as a story.

Unfortunately, it's a pass/fail course and I'm afraid if I do just power on ahead with the story as I've written it for this script, she'll fail me. 😐

Uh. There are major movies galore about protective mothers, fathers, siblings who don't think the star is ready for X.

I hope the class roasts her.

It's a thought. It'd be the second time I've had to report an instructor this year. I'm just wondering if I've triggered some sort of complex or something in her. Which, I'd feel kind of bad about. Like, I don't want to make her feel bad about any sort of 'Oh god I could never do that to my kid,' but at the same time... lady, you are instructing a course on story writing. People are gonna write all kinds of stuff. The only direct no go's are extreme gore and rape.

@Misadventure - yeah. It's... not far fetched at all. I'm not delving into fantasy or sci-fi or anything. I really hope in the workshop deal tonight that some of my classmates stand up for me. My anxiety has been on HIGH since she told me on Monday to send her all of my notes so far so she could workshop it live in front of the class. I wish I had a xanax or something. I don't know how I'm going to avoid a full panic attack, tbh.
