    • RE: POLL: Super Hero MU Gut Check

All I want from a superhero MU is a clear creative vision.

If it's a DCU MU* make it about the DCU - put it in a somewhat specific point in continuity ("We're in early Rebirth") then chronicle what's going on IC as major things happen. If it's a hybrid between universes then write down an 101 ("we're doing MCU meets DCU when Superboy punched the wall between dimensions and...") to give the setting some degree of internal consistency.

I'm not very experienced with comic MU* but most seem quite sandbox-y and/or poorly documented - everything's up for grabs. What's the Avengers roster? Who knows! Is Robin a bratty kid or a quiet tactician? Yes! I think things need to be a bit more organised, at least for my tastes.

    • RE: Things We Should Have Learned Sooner

When I was a teenager I was discovering the internet along with a buddy, and for some reason we were fixating on witty/cool quotes written by assorted people to put them randomly in our .sigs.

... This isn't the cringing part just yet.

So we were parsing our way through this gigantic text file cherry-picking the best taglines out of there, when we noticed a great number of the best of those were attributed to "Anon".

For a long time we were both very impressed by the fact that Anon dude was pretty funny!

      Yeah.

@Lithium I hate hardcore no matter what YOU PEOPLE (I'm looking at you @Misadventure) say about it. I have enough stress in my life, thankyouverymuch. 🙂

Diablo 3's first season with the Necromancer class has started! Endless waves of those pale-skinned freaks around, skeletons are flying in everyone's faces, it's fun. 🙂

@Bobotron Hahah. It's a great, very underrated show. It should be more well known.

@Rook I tried to play LoL a couple of times over the years. People are so impatient with newbies, and the only way to go through being a newbie is to play... which is made unpleasant. No, thanks.

But more and more games are multiplayer-only these days (or might as well be, since the PvE campaign is so short). Perhaps it's so they don't need to develop more advanced AI, I don't know.

@Thenomain said in nWoD2.0 Support Code?:

If I say, as coder, that I do not want to take the time to allow users to color their own +txt, then you're either going to have to live with that answer or find someone who has the time. Would this be cool? It turned out that it was extremely well-recieved! Am I a jackass for saying 'no'? I don't think so.

This might not be the kind of person you're talking about, Ark, but I do think that pointing out possible hurdles and issues with a plan is not being a "nay-sayer".

I'm talking about the exact opposite, in fact. The coder who says "hey, I wanna make it so users can color their own +txt" and people tell them it's not worth doing.

Thinking too hard about it can be what kills it.

Speaking of, I think what kills innovation a lot of the time is people micro-analyzing it preemptively. "It won't work because $reasons". "I saw it tried once in 2003 and it didn't work then so it won't work now". Etc.

There are just some ideas whose time has come, or which happen to be implemented better even if the core concept is similar to something else that crushed and burned.

Also, fuck naysayers. If they don't like it they don't need to play/use it. It's better to try 50 things and see 1 work out than never trying anything because oh-my-god it might fail.

    • RE: nWoD2.0 Support Code?

@faraday A lot of the time the implementation, unless it's horrible (complicated interface, etc) is almost irrelevant in regards to its adoption by the playerbase. It's very often just a matter of it being culturally accepted, which is often just a catch-22 - if the first few players are using it and newcomers see it being used then they pick it up too.

Introducing new toys is usually harder once people's habits are set unless you're actually offering something shiny they didn't know they wanted until they had it.

@golgoth There's nothing taboo about this. IC-only MU* have existed, in one form or other, since the hobby's very early days.

@Ghost It sounds like it'll hit most of my buttons. A game-wide metaplot, the good ol' faction tripod suffering newly introduced instabilities, and catastrophes looming in the horizon.

If it really wants to do it for me they'll integrate/balance spheres against each other better than traditional oWoD did and re-introduce those series of novels that used to be a huge guilty pleasure.

... Okay? They're the same people around superbowl who post "I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHO'S PLAYING".

Damn, that's not something to be proud of. You're not special because you don't follow the herd, guys. Plus it's one thing to say you don't like something and another to not be into it because it's popular.

I don't know which thread this belongs in but I'm too perplexed by it.

One of my new coworkers - a really nice guy otherwise - just doesn't... like entertainment. I've never met anyone like that before. He doesn't want to be entertained.

For example the company's paying us to go watch Spider-man (which I already have of course but hey 🙂 ) as a team-building exercise... and he didn't want to come until he was made to. It's not because he doesn't like movies, he just doesn't like... stuff like that. He begrudgingly agreed to come along saying he'll just think of other things while it's playing, such as paying his bills - which is how he likes to spend his time instead.

He doesn't play games, read books, watch TV (or, evidently, films) or well... any of that stuff. He does do a lot of other more useful things like repairing stuff, which I suppose is a different kind of 'entertainment', but it's still quite... alien to me as a point of view.
