Okay guys be real. I have never played WoD in any form, but I am smart and can read things and am good at asking questions politely. And a bunch of folks are clearly excited about this. Should this be the time I try it?

Just a heads up, BITN is not going to seem like your average CofD/WoD/etc experience, because you are not playing a Monster Protagonist.

Well, I don't have any experience with what the average is! 😉

If you've ever watched Supernatural, it's closer to that. There are monsters. And there are people who hunt them.

Many of them are amateurs at it to begin with, the monsters on their own are stronger and better positioned, and they're all screwed.

      So that's about it.

@Thenomain Agreed. When I played SR I couldn't tell what I hated more, playing a decker or GMing for a party with one.

      @Ganymede Here's a question for you (all).

Would an elimination format such as FIBA's and NCAA be worth it, as it adds to the excitement ('anything can happen in one game') but takes away from the measure of a better team?

Maybe add a third possibility for a point differential over two games (home court advantage=you play second) if you want.

This bugs me. Unless you make arrangements with me before hand, if we are not RPing then your character is not seeing mine. I don't care what their previous relationship is. If it is not happening on screen our characters are not seeing each other.

The flipside of it could bite you in the ass though. A bunch of Carthian meetings are scheduled when you can't be online (say, due to timezones) and it becomes "Bob hasn't come to a single meeting in ages" even though IC he would have been there.

@Ganymede I know everyone is talking about Curry and it can get old... but this is history in the making. We might never see someone do that stuff again. It's not just good, it's something which if he can keep it up for a few seasons puts him into that conversation about GOAT.

Remember these are reactions by NBA players. Some of whom are actually expecting to face the Warriors on the way to the Finals, and knowing most of them carry huge egos.

Magic Johnson: If @StephenCurry30's game winning 3-pointer doesn't prove he's the greatest shooter we've ever seen, I don't know what will!
@StephenCurry30 has a chance to be the greatest player we've ever seen, if he plays at this level for the next 4-5yrs!
Lebron: @StephenCurry30 needs to stop it man!! He's ridiculous man! Never before seen someone like him in the history of ball!
      Dirk: No way
      Dwayne Wade: Curry is UNREAL!!!!
      Porzingis: is this real life?
      Spencer Hawes: 👀 👀 👀 👀 👀 👀 👀
Meyers Leonard: Steph is open when he steps off the bus. Man this guy is the ultimate definition of a video game player
Demar Derozan: He can't be human.
      Parsons: Steph is literally insane!!
Ezeli: Ok still sitting in the same spot in the same position trying to figure out what I just saw
      Bazemore: 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Fournier: What amazed me the most was Coach Kerr not calling Time Out. He knew that was coming
Rudy Gay: Steph curry best shooter ever

@Ganymede See, I'm not so sure about that. The level of intensity required to win so often is a hard commodity to come by in the regular season for any team - especially the better ones who know they're gonna be in the playoffs no matter what, and even more so for the ones whose actual slot in the playoffs is more or less guaranteed. It's such a grind, people don't bring their A game often.

So GSW did against the big teams this year. They decimated the Cavs in Cleveland and crushed the Spurs. But it's a bit harder to convince yourself to put in the extra mile I guess playing the freakin' Pistons.

I really think at least this year's chip is theirs to lose - and I say this as an antifan. If anything the only thing I can see stopping that train is injuries (they've been quite lucky, all things considered) and officiating turning against them in a best of seven series.

@Wolfs It's like they hired people with the explicit goal of designing the ugliest jerseys possible on purpose, over and over again, for decades.

It's like a team tradition. Only somehow the same (?) team somehow landed Wilt and Curry. Fuckers.

@mietze As far as I'm concerned the only issue is having to make assumptions, not to advance your roleplay or move forward but just because it's inevitable.

Say I'm playing Bob, Jane's boyfriend and Jane's player goes on a hiatus. I can try to avoid referring to Jane in RP and explain this to others but at a certain point someone will ask "hey, is Bob single?" and at that point I'll have to provide an answer. Well, is he? This isn't a Schrodinger's cat situation! And either answer is settling the matter on someone else's behalf.

My take on it is that if you're not active OOC and IC - if Jane is responsive to to @mail or pages she can settle the matter and all's good - then you should be fine with staff making such calls on your behalf when they are contacted to resolve the matter. Yeah, Jane is out of town, her mom is sick.

An open ended answer can even be a hook for future RP, provided of course Jane eventually comes back. We were on a break! And if she's not at least poor Bob can finally move on.

@Wolfs I dislike shooting teams a lot. I dislike GSW a lot, they have stupid jerseys.

... But I haven't seen a team this good and dominant at least since the 2000-2001 Lakers. They are even better than some of the great Spurs teams.

    • RE: The Waiting Game

At the point it gets to this something has already gone wrong. Why is someone another's spouse if one of them never wants to play for the other? I'd start there (in the hypothetical @Misadventure brought up).

And the resolution is also problematic. If a player is active with a character and otherwise things are working other than the fact they won't play with someone specific - for whatever reason - then even staff forcing the issue doesn't fix it; either it will be the kind of chore where that player just wants to get through as soon as possible to meet their quota (and what enjoyable scenes those would likely be) or they might even stop playing that character altogether so that instead of creating *more *RP staff just managed to do the opposite.

If pre-approval at the CGen stage didn't catch that sort of malfunction and communication between players doesn't work after the fact there are no good other options.

@ThatGuyThere They bug me almost as much as flopping, because they change the game in a way that exploits the rules. They're not supposed to be big factors in games.

Edited to add: If the characters are so intimately, heavily connected that it is literally impossible for a creative person to come up with a story that doesn't involve making decisions for someone else's PC, then they shouldn't have applied for the character without speaking to the player in question in the first place.

Quite true. It's like me rolling a bodyguard or guardsman for Eisande without talking to you first about it - or maybe I did and the conversation was more like "hey, is it okay if I make this?" and you said yeah, sure? - then suddenly insisting you need to play with me often because that's what a bodyguard does, and without you I can't play my character. You have the rank, you better pony up some scenes!

In fact even explicit rather than implied responsibilities aren't supposed to be long-term. Your character (for example) wasn't given a rank out of the box, she had to earn it by playing for a while - in a way you had undertaken the 'work' part of the position before you had it. In fact that's a good benchmark staff ought to use to determine if someone should be promoted, assuming it's up to them.

Edited again to add: Does nobody else find it creepy that the player in question has had someone ELSE @mailing to nag about the RP?

Yup. But I gave it a pass because ... well, I kinda hope all this was actually well meaning. Not creepystalky but more like someone who wants to do a concept justice by playing with someone else and that someone else hasn't noticed the impact his absence had on her RP.

But this is MSB, and those aren't the happy endings we usually get. 🙂
