@ThatOneDude I seriously doubt most people here worry about pulling blows too much. A thick skin is required on these forums, otherwise their delicate egos will get bruised by way more than a mere click on a little icon by some anonymous visitor.

This might as well have its own dedicated thread, I guess.

Who cares who downvotes or upvotes? Arguments are more important than clicks, and those are visible.

RE: Spying on players
A long time ago I was noticing our (limited) free space on the MU* account was going down faster than expected and du -a showed a weird log file I hadn't seen before.
On a quick investigation that text file included... everything, every single command made by every single player, timestamped over a period of a few weeks. I boggled and went to the game's owner, who after thinking hard said he did execute a command he found on staff help files - there was nothing on that help file, just the existence of the command itself. It didn't seem to 'do' anything so he forgot about it.
I believed him (the guy had shell access but hardly ever used it), but that command had been there for years. It was probably made for debugging purposes... maybe? But the damn thing was the ultimate spying tool, and on the complete spaghetti code written by 15-20 coders over a very long period no one knew who put it there in the first place (and of course there was no git blame back then).
We disabled it but... well, in a game with more than one or two coders and no code reviews, spying is effortless.

RE: Which MU* telnet clients are still popular?
@Templari Hm, this has window spawning and Chrome's own spellchecker. Interesting - thanks for the tip.

@Arkandel Discovered by accident that the Duck addon for Chrome actually does, complete with right click to select the right word function. Which was nice.
I'm not sure I follow. An addon for Chrome adds spellchecking to Potato? How?

RE: RL Anger
Not so much a 'rl' thing since it annoys me on Facebook but still.
People who can't get past the idea everyone doesn't like the same things, or that if they didn't enjoy a popular thing it doesn't make them special.
There are so many posts lately from people about Star Wars throwing words like 'sheep' and 'commercialism' around. One particularly special one was bemoaning all the posts the movie is getting versus 'more important issues', which sounds a lot like '... such as stuff I care about'.
Get over yourselves, folks.

Potato gets close to this but it doesn't spellcheck while I'm typing.
IIRC that was my dealbreaker with it.

I...I'm confused. Help.
It's because they don't care for or respect the medium they are posting in.
Mind you, I'm not trying to justify the practice but I've (at times snidely, I must admit) corrected people's rouges and of course the obligatory your/you're antics on WoW only to have them grumble back something about this being only a game and obviously who cares about grammar, spelling or for that matter, manners?

Bond. James Bond. I would kill for (pun intended) a 007-themed MU*.

RE: Comics Stuff
I don't understand how they can consistently fail to do Doom justice. The guy is, as far as I'm concerned, the definitive Marvel villain, so why are they turning him into a generic bad guy?
He ought to have been their Joker. Instead he's ... forgettable.

I think the most recent ad I saw for them essentially said ' app for something else, and when we get to a point for that, people who have contributed heavily to RP will be considered for those slots'.
Which is part of why I'm avoiding it. I'd love to play, and I really don't have a lot of interest in a Jedi or Sith myself, but it feels weird. It's the same reason I won't do the GoT MU*, I feel like it actually stagnates RP in general.
Agreed. I don't like competitions of this sort, they encourage resentment between players. Why did Bob get a slot and not me? Wasn't I good enough? How did they quantify the criteria? Fuck Bob.
It's a bad idea.

There is an entire galaxy of events to play through without needing to mess with the Skywalkers.
If you feel that being unable to destroy The Emperor, or stop either Death Star from being destroyed, is to restrictive on your RP plans, that tells me a lot about what your actual goals are, and I am not sympathetic.
What if you want to play a Jedi though? You can't if the last ones left are Obi-wan, Yoda and of course Luke.
How about a Sith Lord? There's already a Master and an Apprentice.
Or, alright, let's say such things always happened even in the movie universe but these characters are underground to avoid being slaughtered by the Empire. Deviate enough - such as making the group known, or allying with the rebels - and you'd be affecting the timeline.
Playing with a very set theme on rails is quite hard on roleplay. You'll keep being in arguments with purists.

The Revenant was brutal. Visually amazing. DiCaprio deserves a goddamn Oscar, give the man his due.
