For those that want it, the first major release of jobs 2.0 is ready. I'm pushing it to our game now. This should be a working version minus any bugs. I'll be fixing those as I go along. Submit issues if you find things or want things changed.
What's the likelihood that this won't vomit percent-signs on Penn?

I wish that the administration of the school that I worked for was like yours. I remember when I taught European History before graduate school, I gave Fs to about three seniors that failed to turn in anything or show any type of effort. Had the principal knocking on my classroom door freaking out over it and demanding that I change them to incompletes. That was kind of a wake up call for me.
Wow. Were they worried about the F-students fucking up their accreditation or something? Gez.

RE: RL things I love

That game looks amazing, where did you pick it up? The whole 'escape from investigators' thing reminds me of my favorite game, Fury of Dracula.Otherwise...
I know I talk about the Masquerade LARP that I run a lot, but I continue to be amazed by these people. My Masquerade LARP, we are almost back to the LARP heydey of the city I live in. Our game a couple days ago, we had about a four day notice for the actual event content: an IC masquerade ball. Our playerbase, with 4 days notice, showed up with massive costumes, masks and social plans and shenanigans. And we're topping around 30 people, and in the heydey in the early 2000s it was around 40. We had 27 players at game, out of our 32 person playerbase, and 24 of those were in appropriate formal or otherwise costume ball-type outfits. And the ones that didn't, had a valid IC reason not to.
Unrelated to LARP, I am loving finally going through and finding recipes from my mother-in-laws recipe book and going 'Oh, I need to make this/have the partner make this'.

Searching?
Is it just me, or does searching on this forum seem to be supremely difficult? It doesn't seem to care about 'best match' and just matches the first word in the list, whether you use normal enclosed search methods like quotation marks around the term or not. Is this something we could fix/adjust?

RE: Theatre of Shadows MUSH - OWoD MUSH Seeks Developers/Staff
@Rainbow-Unicorn
I'm still chugging along. I have decided, after much deliberation, to yank out the planned Mortals venue; it was hard to write up everything for, so I'm rolling parts of that into the city mysteries that the Kindred population will be able to interact with. The focus is now going to be solely Vampires and Ghouls, and the attendant politics and things of the Camarilla, the Anarch Movement and Independents.Influence is up on the wiki, with one additional thing to add for it. House Rules have been futzed around with and combined into one page. Some stuff I missed has been adjusted on the House Rules page. Chargen is now officially done, including unspending XP spends you screwed up (since our policy is review, with the ability to go IC immediately). There are two coded systems I haven't finished yet, the downtime/influence tracking systems (as these have their own refreshes, I need to track them separate from the Job system) and the Status trait award/spend/revoke system. There are probably a couple of corner-case things that I need to do with the other code like +test and things, but I am not immediately thinking of anything (I'm sure it will change once I go 'Oh shit, that thing...').
I need some assistance with some mundane work though: I need some data entry done. I need a little data entry Igor that I can give the book PDF, access to the commands or the way I need things formatted, and have them go to town on the information.

An initial question is... with so many games focusing on nWoD, and you guys using GMC rules for it, will players need access to both sets of material?
How easy/hard to you expect knowledge of the old theme be for people - since I assume the majority of the potential playerbase won't have played MtA in many, many, many, many years?
Are they going to be using NWoD though? The fluff they wrote is all Ascension, and they put Revised in the header which makes me think they're using Ascension.

RE: Stuff Done Right
For myself, I find feeding minutiae to be both mind-numbingly hateful, and super important for Vampire. I have suffered with this in LARP a lot, and it's something I'm fighting with on TheatreMUSH.
In general though, most people find the minutiae really tedious, I tend to find.

RE: Looking for MU!
I have heard of Star Trek MU*s where, when combat broke out, they didn't require roleplay of it in concert with the combat code. It was how fast you could spam @phaser and such.
I've never been on a MU* that's had coded combat that didn't have it set up in TT-style 'roiunds' with people getting a turn in some order, myself.

Just a cursory evaluation on their wiki seems to be traits-based with competency levels to help factor into the play.

Looks like it, to an extent, probably with better reasons for mixing the genres. But people are always looking for new non-WoD urban horror stuff to play, so I threw it up here. I am not on there, so I can't give it an up or down, but figured it couldn't hurt to post it. -

Not my game, but I saw it elsewhere and thought you guys might be interested.

The game's theme is non-WoD urban fantasy set in the American Northwest, taking inspiration and incorporating sources ranging from Buffy the Vampire Slayer to Charmed, The Dresden Files, Supernatural, Teen Wolf, and beyond. Each new source is adapted into the game timeline, bringing in options for FCs and OCs alike. We have an enthusiastic couple of GMs on hand with stories to tell, and we're very interested in building a strong community based on cooperation and collaboration. We hope to encourage all of our players to feel involved and active in telling their stories--our stories. Come join us and explore this world of all the things that dwell in the shadows of a world at its darkest: Before the Dawn.

RE: Random GMC game brainstorming
@Tempest
It's really boss to see in play. Our game is a constant swirl of people vying for status, doing things to impress people with Authority or Commander or other Abiding Status that allows them to grant Status. It makes the social game a viable and flowing thing, and I think would do well on most any MU*, especially a MU* that goes through and has the 'WAAH WAAH WHY ARE YOU USING YOUR SOCIAL STATS' issue. -
RE: Random GMC game brainstorming
Status/Social Influence
The LARP version for Masquerade from By Night Studios has a lot of actual good shit done with status, because it's meant to be a heavily player-driven system. When people ask me about how to do status, I point them at that (and if you like, I can print out that section to a separate PDF and dropbox it for you).
Ultimately, Status there is named traits for recognition; however, it has mechanical teeth. Each Status Trait has a Passive and Active Benefit, and the Active Benefit is when you 'pull your weight' with that Status trait.
For example, the Status Trait Defender allows a character to carry weapons on restricted areas (passive) or acting in defense of the city you can mitigate portions of degeneration (active). The trait Honorable makes it so people who openly wish to insult you must use one of their status traits (passive) and you can make yourself remain in or join into a political scene you normally couldn't (active). It works really well in my experience with it, and could be adapted for most any setting easily.
In our LARP, people weave the words of using their Status into their roleplay and discussions, which also helps people declare when they're spending it. ('As an Honorable member of the court, I would prefer to remain while we discuss the Sabbat's impending raids...')
This ALSO applies to Negative Status, which has some interesting benefits that mimic how Vampire status is supposed to work. Warned, for example, socially enforces your fuckup; if you are Warned, you can't talk to an officer of your sect in public unless that person gives you permission or talks to you first, or contradict them when they give you permission (censure), though an officer has leeway to make other punishments (don't grow back that hand you numbnut). If you break the censure, you gain Disgraced. And so on up the chain, until you fuck up enough to get Forsaken (which is kciking you out of your social group and stripping you of your protections).
ETA: Here's the base Status that goes between sects; there is also specific status for Camarilla, Anarch and Sabbat that could be mined. I can print those too if you want. https://www.dropbox.com/s/1t3t1c455rcnlcw/METVtM Status.pdf?dl=0

RE: Zero to Mux (with wiki)
@surreality
Good luck. I ended up not needing to transfer the wiki to a new host, so I'm safe there, but the option to have the automatic installers from like Installatron do it would be good knowledge. -
RE: Reactions to 08192015 Update
@TNP
Can that even be done? Doesn't this server use some different database like Mongo or something that no other forum software uses? It honestly seems like the devs for the forum software just want to come something complex, and from reading about people trying to install it, seeming to not care that it's complex.
