    • RE: The Shame Game

@Ghost said in The Shame Game:

Honestly, since you're big time name-dropping an author and already have decided that shaming doesn't work, why bother asking what our opinion is on the matter? Cut the foreplay and just release a statement on your feelings on shaming type behavior on MSB, or don't?

...or I'm referencing the source from which I got the notion in the first place as a point of reference and validity? And already mentioned that I understand the general opinion is different and acknowledged correction of my impression?

A friend of mine from a while back has a passion for World Building, and came up with a concept he calls A Thousand Little Gods. He had friends volunteer themselves on Facebook to be conceptualized as deities, notable heroes (and villains) and magical creatures. I don't know if he plans to write something or build a game or what, but the concept is really cool, and he's prolific enough that now he has a wiki.

I have the honor of having both a deity and a villain named and conceptualized as part of his work:

      Dayaga Skullcleaver
      Dayna, Goddess of the Dispossessed

I don't offer that to just anyone, you know. Mmmmhmmm.

So during a follow up with my doctor's office NP, we ended up talking about how last week was particularly hard for me, and about how I've been feeling generally kind of on a downward spiral with the Kavanaugh bullshit making it worse. We reviewed my medication and she thinks I'm overmedicating, and has proposed a new combo for me to try. Apparently one pill (makes you smaller) tends to address anxiety more directly and what I'm adding to the regimen will more directly address depression.

I'm a little wary because mental illness meds are often a crap shoot, but I'm willing to give it a try if it can make me feel better and in turn more willing to make healthy choices, which I admit of late I have not been doing, like, at all. It's really hard not to feel hopeless lately, which generally leads to the notion of being out of fucks. Hopefully the new combo will do me better.

I really wish the helpfiles were more intuitive. Most of the helpfiles list the command and each switch, but doesn't really break down what each switch does. I feel like most of the helpfiles are written for people who are well acquainted with a code-heavy game and just need reminders, as opposed to someone entirely new to the necessity of all of these details. Or maybe I'm looking in the wrong place, but if that's the case there doesn't seem to be much natural direction in where to look for the information. Two examples:

The helpfile for @cal (events) indicate you need to set a "finesse" level for the event. I sort of cobbled together the idea that okay, finesse is basically the amount of money and level of effort you put into it, but I have yet to find any real definition of what each category really is in terms of RP, and only the faintest notion that there's some kind of prestige gain for hosting said event.

The helpfile for startgear doesn't really explain what the expectation is for what to create, or really give any parameters for a "recipe". Are there pre-set notions or categories for what a recipe entails? Are there suggestions or examples for startgear objects everyone should have?

I'm having a hard time not feeling like everyone thinks I'm an idiot because I'm constantly asking questions on how to do things (which admittedly is a self-driven sensation).

You guys, the new She-Ra and the Princesses of Power on Netflix is amazing and fun for a girl and a boy. Or kids and adults. The animation is exquisite and the storylines and character development are refreshing.

    • RE: Wiki and You

I guess I can understand people not wanting to deal with it; I on the other hand often love to constantly tweak my wiki.

I also note that learning to deal with wikis has helped me with my HTML and wiki formatting skills, as well as learning different types of formatting for different wikis. These can be framed as marketable skills to pad a resume, even if only at lower administrative levels to make one look impressive.

I had my first appointment with my new nutritionist yesterday. I walked in terrified, because my previous experience with a nutritionist was with a woman that I am convinced was part of some Cold War Soviet health program. Literally - she was a tiny Russian woman who wanted regimented details about my diet and considered the numbers the be-all, end-all of nutrition coaching. And every single time I scheduled an appointment with her, it wound up being rescheduled.

But the first thing the new nutritionist asked me was what I wanted out of our program. She talked to me about my dog (always a bonus). She suggested instead of writing down every food intake, take photos of my meals. We set up a few initial goals, and not once did she demand a blood sugar reading. She assured me she wasn't there to judge, only to help me be healthy, and I discovered much to my surprise that my goal wasn't about losing weight per se - I mean, sure, weight loss is good, but I am a lot less horrified by my body than I used to be when I would look in the mirror and sob about what a gross monster I was. What I really, really want is energy. I don't want it to be a battle to get up and DO things - MU*ing included. So that's where my nutrition program is headed.

I walked out happier than I walked in, and excited to go grocery shopping with a sense of purpose as opposed to just wandering around the store feeling frustrated.

I know it's not a miracle cure, and nothing will happen quickly, but I feel incredibly hopeful.

Arx, I love you, but goddamn do I feel like an idiot half the time trying to understand all the systems and purposes for things. I'm outright terrified folks are going to lose patience with me and my code follies.

    • Help With Played Bys

Do you need help picking a played-by?

I love helping with finding played-bys. I think in my former life I was a casting director.

What I need from you is:

      1. Gender (or indicate androgynous/suggested gender/attach applicable label or lack thereof)
      2. Age range
      3. Skin tone
      4. Build type
      5. Hair & eye color.

Optional: Setting type. I tend to look at period sources for L&L games, go a bit more wild with Changeling types, etc. You can also provide some indication of what the character does if that helps: "she's a ballerina" "he's a biker", etc.

Feel free to mention facial hair, but keep in mind that very specific scarring or tattoos are almost impossible unless you already have a specific PB in mind anyway. That kind of thing is Photoshop territory.

I RPed a relationship with someone who would link me Hozier songs out of the blue reflecting our characters' situations.

      Well yeah, I mean, Hozier.

It was adorbs and made me feel so much better about having a few romance-specific songs in my character's playlist.

...I could probably make an entire playlist based around my characters' romances.

@ZombieGenesis I wasn't hard core into 90210, or even Riverdale, but I loved him in the original permutation of Buffy and he was still one of the teen idols of my generation and I am not feeling alright about it, especially considering he died at age 52.

I am however, amused that our "L&L" game has been open for 2.5 months in beta, with full plot and GMing barreling forward...and no marriages at all. Our first marriage MIGHT be about to happen, and it's a commoner marriage.

Just you wait, Henry Higgins, just you wait.

    • RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.

@Misadventure It's a game I enjoy, that I'm generally good at, and want to stay on the board as a point of personal pride.

Prior to receiving an unsolicited overture of advice, my goal was simply to play the game, enjoy the satisfaction of playing the game well, and staying on the score board. I don't see any reason at this point why the two notions have to be mutually exclusive tbh.

Also, in the moment, he didn't ask me if I wanted some tips. He told me he was going to give me pointers.

So probably sometime in the next week or two, characters will be added to the roster that belong to one of the counties underneath my character's March. I have an inkling of the personalities involved, so if you might be interested, hit me up and we can chat.
