A friend of mine posed the following retort:
The true metric is not with the person who used the cart, but the person who sees the cart in the parking lot. Who left the cart there? Why did they not return it? These are pointless questions: the real question is whether you will return it for them.
I would remind your friend that the free rider problem and the tragedy of the commons continue to be relevant. If worldwide voter turnout is anything to judge by, people don't take affirmative duties very seriously even when their are consequences beyond 'socially taboo'.

Maybe instead of a Hog Pit, we could establish a Log Pit, and we just post links to logs from scenes we've really loved being in. I'm only half joking.

@rinel He was running, like pacing back and forth in a panic. I managed to get him over by pulling up a lawn chair from the inside and as soon as he was on top of the planter (about hip height) he wrapped his arms around my neck and I carried him down the other side.
My English wasn't good there, I was pretty exhausted. Sorry! Still probably not great.
I think the 'what' from @Rinel was more directed at:
'And then he immediately got into the pool while fully dressed.'
Which I second. Lol, you had a day.

Exactamundo. That's why I'm essentially asking you if you are sexist against men, as part of my assessment of this environment. I don't want to be among people who think it's okay to denigrate masculinity but won't accept any criticism of female behavior in turn. I don't want to have to listen to people whining about mansplaining, toxic masculinity, or male privilege all the time, especially as means to win an argument, as is the case I find in many online spaces. If that's not you guys, then all you had to do was say so when I specifically asked if you clamp down on gendered insults towards men.
In short, we don’t allow serious insults to anyone, for any reason, in any context, anywhere. It’s a blanket statement of policy that applies to everyone equally. Hopefully that is clear.

RE: Usernames and MU names
I think I've told this one before, but I tried at least three names in my original attempt, and all of them were registered as taken. So out of frustration I just typed Derp into the box and, lo and behold, that one took.

When you say "went and split a house," do you mean "bought a house with my mother so that there would be a place for my nieces to live relatively safely and grow up with in a moderately-healthy environment"?
Rented a big farmhouse for all those latter reasons, and so that I could save up for a down payment on a mortgage.
Pretty sure at this point I am just going to let her have this place and go find somewhere else, closer to work. Nieces are cared for by their mother again, who got her shit together.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
To add to that: she also calls out Christians in the midwest, presumably as political actors using religiously-grounded statements of ideology to pass and enforce destructive legislation that the religion ostensibly actually opposes. Making it a hypocritical point.
Not sure that just being anti-Israeli-shenanigans makes one an antisemite.

I don't think this should be relegated to the just the midwest politicians, speaking as someone from the midwest. Which is tangential to the topic being discussed
I mean, agreed, but those are specifically the ones that she cited, so that's why I used her (shared, not original apparently) example.
And while I suppose at the most extreme ends being opposed to the entitety of Israeli existence is probably anti-semitic, we often talk about the actions of a country's government by simply naming the country.
Most Chinese people are probably fine, but when we criticize China, we are really using that as a shorthand for the CCP and other tangential parties, not all billion Chinese people. I don't think that calling that post anti-semitism is a fair reading.

TFW when your parent who has been absolutely vile to you for weeks gets out of the psych ward and confesses that, in their last episode, they and the hallucination of their dead ex husband had a full on plan to murder you.
I want to talk to the writers of my life. They have completely jumped the goddamn shark.

Adopting a pet should be more like adopting a child than just buying a toaster.
Having seen a lot of abuse cases involving adopted children, some people should really just be relegated to buying toasters.
Amen. The same can be said for having children.
I have always been an advocate for a license to procreate, but my colleagues give me horrified expressions and lectures on human rights and state intrusions and how horrible it would be for minorities.
And yet... I dunno man. Still tempting. You want it because people suck, but you can't have it because people suck.

My goal was to always get back down to my weight that I was when I was more active. Before my knees and feet decided to say otherwise. Which is going from 254 lbs to 195. Sure at 6'3" that's not like terrible, but I'm not a fan of the dadbod. Especially when I don't even have kids.
So 251 lbs, that's not bad for starting out. A pound a week isn't a bad goal. But eating so much protein wasn't expected. But helpful in not really being all that hungry as often.
Also Greek yogurt. I've literally been living off it.
I mean, some of us are fans of dadbods. Just saying.

Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed Shadow and Bone, BUT...
I started a rewatch of The Nanny and I am genuinely surprised at how well it holds up. Also, Fran Fine is officially now my style icon, big hair and all.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
That feeling when I know what to do, but I don't have the credentials behind my name to do it.
In a fight with my landlord at the moment. Asked that a shower door be installed at the new place. He was like 'Sure, find one you like and send me the receipts and we'll get it approved'.
So, did that. His asset manager came back and was like 'you are approved to install it at your own expense'.
Me: Wait, what? That is not what we agreed to.
Them: Oh, that was what we meant. You must have been confused.
Me: No, I was very much not confused. Why in the world would I need to send you receipts and any quotes from contractors just to get the installation approved at my own expense? No reasonable person would ever agree to that.
Them: Well, that is our policy. All documentation must be submitted before work is done, and it's done at your own expense.
Me: ...do you hear yourselves? Like -- nobody, and I mean nobody, would ever agree to that. Nobody would believe, after the conversations in writing that we have had, that that was the agreement. You told me to submit these for reimbursement, I did.
Them: Not for reimbursement, no.
Naturally, it is far too late in the process to cancel them, and I cannot send them back. Part of me wants to send a demand letter, but I'm pretty much a nobody, and I don't know attorneys scary enough around these parts to ask a favor.
But these motherfuckers. Not even a month into this and I already have to start researching promissory estoppel on a contract too low to fall under the statute of frauds?
Ugh. It's gonna be a long year.
