    • RE: What Is Missing For You?

I'd love to see a superhero game that promoted player-based changes to the state of the world/grid. While most games say they allow it through submitted player-run plot proposals etc., there doesn't really seem to be much permanent effect (even considering the tendency of comics to reset things after some time anyway). I know that staff don't want to let completely batshit ideas go through, but the result seems to be a lot more inertial resistance to potentially interesting ideas for fear of disrupting the initial status quo.

    • RE: Fate Development Thread

I imagine it would help a lot to have a bunch of in-game/on-hand resources (stunt examples, character templates a la Atomic Robo modes, etc.) to offer something resembling concrete boundaries. I don't mean 'productive constraint' necessarily but something more akin to comparable measures that can be usefully mad-libbed to what a player's going for.

I still want to run the sci-fi sandbox that I tried out last year, even though it was effectively a failure. I still want to run a BPRD game using the ARRPG rules (swapping Science for Occult and otherwise charging forward).

How much OOC conversation tends to go on in scenes with conflict so as to help shape poses? One thing Fate basically demands is OOC chatter about how a given aspect is being invoked/compelled, so for types who may want relatively minimal OOC "infiltration" of a scene, Fate may not necessarily be the answer...

@ganymede And, if recent translations of Grecian vases are to be believed, they had names/nicknames ranging from "Worthy of Armor" to "Battle-cry" to ... "Hot Flanks" https://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2014/09/140923-amazon-greek-vase-translations-science/

I'm also trying to get some sci-fi adventure off the ground there, so more participants would be welcome!

I would also love to find some like-minded goofballs and get neck-deep in Giffen-esque JLI shenanigans.

    • RE: Debating between Marvel Heroic and Marvel Universe RPGs

Marvel Heroic, for sure. The biggest trick will be establishing a means of semi-consistent CG constraints just so you don't have people wanting to put a d10 or d12 in everything.

The Valiant RPG kind of has a way to do that, but I'm not sure how easily it could be translated to the MH system.

Edited to add: found this attempt at points-based chargen, but haven't really tested it at all myself (and the author definitely doesn't seem interested in seeing how applicable it would be to DC or other universes' characters): https://samhaine.wordpress.com/2012/02/27/marvel-heroic-roleplaying-point-based-character-creation/

@mr-johnson That's cool (I mean, the explanation is; the situation with them taking the image isn't). I just wanted to make sure, since the familiar image took me by surprise. Thanks for the info!

    • RE: Comic Noir Game

As I was checking out the wiki, I couldn't help but notice that the main page image (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/ttctnoir/images/9/94/WSjygzb.png/revision/latest?cb=20160129025233) appears to be incredibly similar to the logo image from the United Heroes wiki (https://www.unitedheroesmush.com/f6iH7aS.png).

Is this game being run by the same set of people?

@mr-johnson Thanks. I guess I should have looked at DTRPG, too: apparently there's a sale until 3/11 where the essential edition of the rules are $3.34 https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/57975/Wild-Talents-Essential-Edition?term=wild+talents&test_epoch=0

@mr-johnson Is there any freely available version of the Wild Talents rules, by any chance? I suppose I should begin familiarizing myself with it...

    • Booster Gold @ United Heroes

Just looking to see if anyone knows the player of Booster Gold last summer/fall at UH? That person was hysterical and I'd love to try to get the Superbuddies band back together on another comics game.

    • RE: Game Theory: Pro Wrestling MUX!

@zombiegenesis I think it's awesome, personally, but I will admit that I'm a big fan of most of the PbtA games I've come across (with the occasional exception). I think it does a really good job of emphasizing the hyperbolic drama of wrestling matches and the activities surrounding those performances.

    • RE: Comic Noir Game

I hope no one minds me mentioning more potential sources for inspiration. I was just reminded of the Multiversity "Society of Superheroes" issue, which posits an alternate Earth populated by pulp heroes set after "The Great War." (However, the main focus of the story is interdimensional travel/warfare, so there's less world-building than one might desire.)

    • RE: Comic Noir Game

@mr-johnson Also, not to keep Mignola-fying this, but there's another book/comic series he did, involving "Joe Golem, occult detective," in which Manhattan began sinking in the 1920s and became very Venice-like. I mention this as you might find it interesting for maybe a neighborhood in Gotham/Metropolis as an effect of the Great War.

    • RE: Comic Noir Game

@mr-johnson I wonder if you might find it useful to draw some thematic/aesthetic inspiration from Mike Mignola's Baltimore comics, which imagine an apocalyptic WWI era (although it's due to vampires rather than superheroes).

At any rate, I would love to see this game happen. Its premise sounds intriguing, and I'm a sucker for pulp/Golden Age supers of any sort.
