RE: Ruiz
Just so we’re clear, @reimesu @Ghost @Derp @Ganymede Do me a favor, and don’t come around to any game I run in the future. Because you won’t be welcome.
I mean, I won't if you don't want me to, but what the hell did I do to deserve condemnation?
@Bessarion said in Ruiz:
Is it possible that no one was acting in bad faith there? That no one here is a manipulative mastermind and people are just all fucked up and react to things? Isn't that far more likely?
I concur.
It's a safe bet that this thread has more posts in it than those made in all other threads combined since The Great Banning. And on that note, I have nothing further to say so shall truly depart and let you all fade into irrelevancy, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
I have come to the conclusion that seeking relevancy through either forum is a sign of some underlying mental disturbance.
For the record, though, I'm more concerned about Ruiz being a creeper than anything else being said here. I thought I said it clearly before to Tributary, but I'll say it again: I would be more than happy to work with folks from BMD to identify creepers and predators on games to out them and keep them the fuck out of the hobby.
If BMD folks need information buried somewhere here, just let me know. If I need to go mining for information to identify bad actors, please let me know.

RE: Ruiz
I have no idea what DARVO even stands for, but you go on and do you.
Apparently, it means "deny, attack, and reverse victim and offender." It's the sort of term that pops up often at Title IX hearings.
As for the 'homophobic shit'. As someone who is part of that group, I have seen is used fairly often by those of the LGBTQ+ community. Including on the Pack wiki page, for a business open to all identities and sexualities.
To me, this is sort of like the black community using the n-word. I don't use the term because it is meant to insinuate that LGBTQ+ members have some sort of illegal or unspoken agenda with the aim of taking over communities, like a criminal organization. I think this is a harmful term to play around with loosely.

I need to make some major changes.
I don't think so. I mean, you meet a lot of good people too. It's not how you go about your business as much as setting limits. I've faith.

I had people tell me if you don't consent will pkill you, that would still show up as a consented to scene.
Lord knows I love you dearly, but somehow you always seem to attract the worst of the worst.

I think more games could benefit from clearly-delineated xcard systems. Then you wouldn't have a situation like this where a manipulator could potentially later pretend they didn't consent, in order to get someone else in trouble and attempt to misplace blame. Everything could be in some xcard log and simple to know. Not that it's helpful for the situation right now, but that's what I'm taking away.
I like this idea, but I don't think it helps on MUSHes.
There are many reasons why people play along with scenes which end up disturbing or triggering them. For a generation growing up online, I believe newer players are more likely to succumb to 'social pressure' to continue a role-playing scene because 'that's just what you do'. Old shits like me couldn't give two shits about it, but I earnestly believe my online sensibilities are different than those of younger or more recent players.
I've role-played through similar scenes before. Fuck, I grew up playing on Tartarus. I've had rough TS scenes end up becoming character defining (not saying that it was a great way to do it, but here we are). So I'm not going to say people are wrong for engaging in this sort of RP with players they don't know well. But I will say that there are consequences with this kind of RP, so it's probably wise to seriously consider your RP partners. I can say, with some certainty, that this sort of questionable RP happened all the damn time, but it's not a problem because none of the players involved complained.

I don't see sexual assault in those logs either but I get how the pretense could be triggering to someone exposed to this exact sort of real life trauma.
I see it. Then again, I review Title IX incidents and other police reports.
Look, this is one of the reasons I don't engage with this sort of RP unless it's with someone I've known for a gazillion years. Like consensual hanky-panky I'm good with generally, but this RP is dark, personal, and potentially-triggering.
Could Isaac have been triggered? I can see it. Could he be a controlling, abusive player? I could see that as well, presuming the truth of Macha's interactions with the player.
It bears saying: be careful out there. I know that isn't a fair warning at times, but it holds as a general adage.

\I'm not saying the codebase changes the crowd, though it did introduce me to a different side of the hobby, and in turn, new people to the hobby itself, but my point was just that I think the majority of games out currently deserve recognition for good administration.
This was my experience with my first Ares game, and it remains my experience.
However limited Ares might seem, it makes creating a game easy. And I will always promote it -- and @Faraday -- until my face turns blue.
I hope that other games advertise here, so that the word gets out.

I have to admit that they do have better vibes than a lot of older games I've played on.

I feel like this isn't fair to a bunch of the new MUs coming out now or recently as a result of Ares.
I can only speak to, and only speak from, my experience. I know that there are a lot of great new games coming out right now, but I also know that there have been a lot of older games that got taken over by shitty people.
I certainly hope these new games do well. They look like they have fun themes and settings!

That "Flublywub" at HorribleGameA shows up a year later as "Unicron" at HorribleGameB?
I will hear no more ill of Unicron.
Anyhow, I concur. Finding a game where the people on top aren't sacks of shit isn't easy.

Regardless, it IS a good game and I enjoy the setting.
That's the other thing for me: I disliked the Harry Potter setting.
In fact, I disliked the movies and didn't care for the books either.
And this was before she took the hard TERF turn.
But it does look like a good game.
-
RE: Hogwarts Legacy
I really can't bring myself to buy into anything which might drop royalties to Rowling.
I mean, be a TERF if you want, but keep that terribleness to yourself.

RE: Mage 2E Game - Set in San Francisco
I don't think it is a bad idea, but I would keep the roster small. I would also allow players to roster their own PCs for later or for others' use.
