I remember reading that it should be almost entirely possible to play the game without doing planetfall.
This seems very possible given the plethora of asteroids with fuel in them.

Paging @Ganymede (hopefully)...
I've got the system pulled together that I want to use. It's calculated to provide two kinds of experiences: (1) a dramatic system for non-mission scenarios; and (2) a tactical combat system for missions. I'm typing out "special powers" or "talents" that can be picked up by PCs right now, but it's slow-going due to work, working out, kids, and that I've picked up No Man's Sky recently.
I'm more than happy to work with a small team on getting theme/setting nailed down for the game.

Is there anything like the above, either actively running or in the works?
Was kind of working on a fantasy CoD setting, but then Mage came out and it obliterated my ideas for magic.

Also because he's bald! That's known to be how Hollywood producers think.
(But yes, I made it up)
Even so, that's probably one of the reasons too. Dini's Dr. Fries wasn't intended to be a big brute; he was just a scientist trying to save his wife.

Rather inapplicable in context here, as Dr. Freeze has been adjusted away from the campy Mr. Freeze in just about every incarnation, including Arnold's version in Batman and Robin.
The Otto Preminger (Silver Age) version -- the first photo -- was Mr. Freeze, who chemically-altered himself after inventing his "ice gun."
The Paul Dini (Modern Age) version -- the second photo -- is Dr. Victor Fries, who invented a cryostatic process to freeze his wife, Nora, until he figured out a cure for her fatal illness. He was altered when his experiments were interrupted by Ferris Boyle (voiced by Mark Hamill in the cartoon), who discovered Fries' experiments were done using his equipment and resources. Dr. Fries mistakenly believes that Boyle's interruption killed Nora, but we later learn otherwise. And Arnold's Mr. Freeze is based on the Dini version.
It's worth noting that Patrick Stewart was originally sought for the role of Dr. Fries in Batman and Robin, due to the complexity of the character and his backstory. Arnold was tapped, and the script altered, because Joel Schumacher is a fucking moron.

I'm still trying to figure out reliable ways to get Aluminum and Iridium, so the going is slow in making my Boltcaster a thing of pure evil. Figured out that the mining beam is shit, even when upgraded, against Sentinels, so --
I know, right? There's always some goddamned unknown place within 2.5 minutes of the last goddamned unknown place I searched.
My favorite part is getting all the GOOOOOOOLD, and then selling that shit.
First topic I think I've ever started here.
No Man's Sky: for those who picked it up, thoughts? I'm concerned that I'm going to get bored with this open-world, fucking amazing sci-fi game. I'm concerned because this game is so fucking incredibly awesome that I can't even communicate my thoughts on it well.
Resource gathering. Tech building. Wildlife hunting. Space combat. Warp jumping through an infinite universe.
There's so much potential with add-ons here too.
Thoughts?

- I mean it's Mr. Freeze, to me the character is nothing more then a Gotham D-lister ranking around the likes of Calendar Man, The Firebug (Note I do mean Firebug not Firefly the essentially identical character but with a better visual design) and Crazy Quilt.
I presume that you've seen the new Dr. Freeze in Batman: the Animated Series, specifically the episode Heart of Ice, which is, I think, Season 1, Ep. 12. Watch that, and you tell me if Arnold came close, because that is who Dr. Freeze is now, in the hearts and minds of a generation of Batman lovers.
@Roz said in Good or New Movies Review:
I think Guardians is a fun movie but not actually a great adaptation of several of the characters in it. I don't go around telling people it's awful because of that, but I do tend to rate it lower on my list of Marvel movies than a lot of folks for whom it's one of their top ones.
To be clear: I didn't say that Guardians of the Galaxy was awful; I said that I liked Suicide Squad better.
Further, to be clear: I didn't agree that Waller was an idiot; I said that she was in over her head, right from the start. It's not far from the realm of possibility that a woman who can face down a demi-god and the Batman may have a small case of I'm too sexy for my shirt arrogance. Perhaps calling her "dumb" was a bit much on my part, but people make mistakes, right?
Like the Batman, when he let Robin die.
Like the Joker underestimating Waller's ruthlessness. (Which is a sticking point I have: I'm not sure why the Clown Prince of Chaos can so easily elude Batman, but got himself shot down, save by underestimating how much of a bitch Waller could be.)
Anyhow: Suicide Squad good; Ghostbusters fun.

This is a joke right? This argument in response to the question?
Not really. Blind people don't always see analogies.
My point isn't about expectations; my point is that exceptions don't make the rules. Further, if you have deadly allergies, you'd better be prepared for them; that's why I carry an epipen. The last part: again, an exception.
The store made a conscious choice to allow animals in there. They implicitly accept the consequences of the miniscule fraction of the population that will have a problem with it, as well as any legal penalties that may be enforced against them.
@ThatGuyThere said in RL Anger:
... I do but a lot of the what needs to go on food packing regulations are FDA rules not actual laws. Though in common practice they can be close to the same result they are not actually the same.
If it's not an FDA regulation -- and I don't think it is -- it's good practice to raise assumption-of-the-risk defenses to product liability.
@Thenomain said in RL Anger:
What about the laws we have in place to protect people with allergies?
Which laws are those?
Or non-smoking regulations?
You mean, those blatantly unconstitutional regulations that have had no demonstrable effect on smoking or related-cancer rates?
IANAL but there are actual laws in many places that explicitly forbid the presence of non-service dogs in certain places where food is sold or served.
While true, this was not the question that was implied prior. If an establishment wants to act in contravention of the law, that's fine; however, I doubt that a violation of laws forbidding dogs in an establishment that serves foods means that the establishment is per se negligent if a dog allowed therein bites a child.
@ThatOneDude said in RL Anger:
Would it have been the "one" thing that now banned that dog from the store based on this perceived unspoken rule?
I regularly go out to eat. I'm allergic to legumes, nuts, and some other things that will kill me if ingested. Is it reasonable for me to demand that all such products are removed from the store and my presence? Is it reasonable for me to demand that all such products are removed from grocery stores at which I frequent?
Going out in public logically requires a person to be prepared to deal with their allergies, if they have them. If I were management, I would tell that one customer to deal with it. Having a dog-friendly store is likely more important to business than the one customer that has a complaint about that policy.
What gives someone the right to have a dog that isn't a service dog with them everywhere?
Nothing.
What of the people with allergies ... They don't matter?
No more than any other customer, I presume.
I'm more curious about this unspoken rule part because I'm sure if the dog did something like bit a child there would most likely be no mention of said rule from the store right?
I guess not? That sounds like an issue between management and their CG / Premises Liability insurance carrier and/or agent.
@Arkandel said in Good or New Movies Review:
No way.
Way. So way. Guardians of the Galaxy suffers from a bad case of whysoserious.
@ThatGuyThere said in Good or New Movies Review:
My complaint is that from everything I have heard the Squad movie got the character of the Wall wrong.
I'm sorry -- did you just say that Arnold did Dr. Freeze justice in Batman and Robin? If so, then you need to check your personal criteria severely.
This may be the sine qua non point of repulsion for you, but let me suggest the things that the movie got right: (1) keeping the backgrounds of the several villains short and tight; (2) not letting the darkness in theme and setting or maudlin overwhelm the humor; and (3) Jared Leto.
Here are some other things that are bad about the movie: (1) ugh, the camerawork is like Paul Greengrass had sex with vertigo-suffering gecko; (2) no self-respecting gun-toting maniac would use side-loading devices; (3) fucking stop casting Cara Delevingne in anything; (4) what the fuck was the point in having Katana?; and (5) Killer Croc is way more than a big, scaly monster.
Still, better than Guardians of the Galaxy.

The reason comic fans hate the messed up Waller, she is one of the few people to win a metaphorical stare down Batman.
And Ra's al Ghul is immortal, and not in the sense that new ones get appointed.
And Mr. Freeze is this:
Not this:
Things change. Comic book fans need to lighten the fuck up.
@Vorpal said in Good or New Movies Review:
Then again, Amanda Waller as a particularly idiotic and incompetent government bureaucrat is the one narrative that makes sense in this movie, considering the only reason the Squad is deployed in this mission is because they're there to rescue Amanda Waller from a mess she created, and from which she somehow managed to not get evacuated, despite the fact that the rest of the city managed it.
This seems to sum up why the people who aren't comic book nerds aren't up in arms about the movie.
I liked it. I liked it because Waller is in over her head, right from the start. When Enchantress goes rogue, that's the moment you figure that Waller doesn't get it. And there's no reason Waller knew, or would have known, that El Diablo was more than a ganger that could shoot fire.
Waller wanted a super-team, and got a squad of super-asses. And the only reason they won is because El Diablo turned out to be more than he seemed, and ancient Gods are vulnerable to explosive charges.
So, yeah, they made Waller look dumb, but, in doing so, the plot is neatly tied up. And we get Margot Robbie in boy shorts.

My issue with condition is that lets say I am in a scene. My PC gets intimidated,
Old way: I modify actions and ST imposes mechanical sanction if necessary and scene rolls on.
New Way: I get told I have Intimidated or Shaken or whatever they call the condition. I then have to dig out the book either physical copy or digital one look up the effect of that condition, then make a note of said condition, put in the req for the beat for receiving a condition then get back to the scene.
I have been playing 2E for a long time, and I have never, ever, ever had to hold up a scene to make note of any condition. And I've been the subject of many conditions. There's no reason you can't do all of that administrative work after the scene is over, yeah?
And there's nothing saying I can't just go with the old way if I get intimidated.
Maybe your experiences are simply different than mine, in which case you have my sympathy.
@ThatGuyThere said in Interest/Volunteer Check: Major Multisphere Chronicles of Darkness:
Even if we RP out the fight for a couple of hours with good poses I prefer to get the mechanical resolution to the fight done asap.
I think you're overlooking how you can accept the Beaten Down condition in a fight to end it quickly, which also gives you a Beat.
That aside, I keep hearing people talking about offense winning over defense, but that seems to be realistic. Combat isn't like the NFL; it's like modern combat, where the side with the biggest weapons has a distinct advantage. Even so, I believe I can out-build an offensive PC with a defensive PC, but I suppose the definition of "offense" and "defense" may vary between players.
I like CoD's system mechanics. I find them better balanced and quicker than a lot of other games. But, I see your point, from a certain perspective.
