RE: Skins
@Roz @Miss-Demeanor All right guys, go ahead and do a hard refresh and let me know if that helps.

RE: Reactions to 08192015 Update
Okay, the arrows should now appear as white against that blue background. You should just need to do a hard refresh, @WTFE. You can also click on the actual "1 out of 152" which should give you a popup input that allows you to specify exactly which post you want to go to.

RE: Reactions to 08192015 Update
In the header, when you're in a topic, there's the list of posts, like 1 out of 149. Next to those are nearly invisible links in your flatly skin, but the double chevron pointing down is what you'd use to go to the last post in a topic. I'll change the color of it so it's visible in the skin you use.

RE: Reactions to 08192015 Update
There certainly is, but it'd be universal to that particular skin. I also posted a request for this sort of thing here.

Well, the entire point of creating a website is to present something visually appealing and easy to use to share information with an audience. In a forum like this, I don't think there's much question that it's meant to appeal to a wider audience too.
A forum like this is meant to appeal to an audience. Aesthetic is also individual.
So, given that, and the general reactions a while back when @Glitch posted a thing about this and said 'check out the new look', and the response to it even then was 'hate it, yuck, no',
You, @TNP, @Tempest and @Thenomain expressed distaste for it. @Tempest was also mostly neutral about it. @HelloRaptor and @Coin showed a preference for it, despite @HelloRaptor's later distaste. So out of all of the users of these forums, 4 had a negative opinion and 3 had a positive opinion, if you want to consider me as someone with a generally positive opinion since I actually did the upgrade. That's hardly an overwhelmingly negative response.
So yeah, his point actually does have merit, and the people that you write off as screeching and having a shitty attitude about it are just as much target users as anyone else on this forum. They have a voice, they offer feedback, and not working to make something that appeals to them is counterproductive.
In response to the highlighted:
- You certainly "voiced" your opinion, repeatedly
- "offer feedback" is a generous term for the verbal vomit spewed
- Taking the thoughts of people on these forums into consideration is certainly a good idea, but as I pointed out earlier, it was a tiny minority that felt moved enough by the upgrade to even voice opinion, let alone a negative one.
They do not like this. They stated before it went up hat they didn't like it, in some cases, and it happened anyway. They're allowed to express their frustration and anger about something that didn't need to happen happening. That desn't make it a shitty attitude.
Expressing frustration and anger is understandable. @Miss-Demeanor and @Misadventure both had a bunch of early difficulties that sorted out after a bit. Even if they don't much like it as it is now, they've adjusted. @WTFE had a strong negative reaction as well, but he was at least willing to see some small benefit in the upgrade and realize it wasn't me who designed it and that I didn't do it to frustrate him. @HelloRaptor similarly doesn't like it, but also accepts that I didn't upgrade just to make his life worse.
It did need to happen, whether you agree or not. The theme change didn't need to come along with the other stuff, but that is a result of selecting this forum software.
Disagreeing with the upgrade is not a shitty attitude. Disliking the theme is not a shitty attitude. Expressing frustration with the change is not a shitty attitude. Losing your goddamn mind over it and then continuing to defend your reaction as somehow appropriate to the situation is a shitty attitude.
Come to terms now with this, because upgrades will happen again. Hopefully it won't be as jarring and the experience of going through this one will smooth the transition for people (particularly the cache clearing and some of the backend problems I had that resulted in 504s and 502s), but upgrading for fixes and features is going to continue.

@HelloRaptor
For you: http://imgur.com/gallery/SjcgEETA: I'm also thinking about redoing the theme to mimic imgur's commenting. With a 140 character limit. Thanks for the inspiration!

Skins
The skins are generic skins pulled from bootswatch.com. This means they haven't been modified to specifically suit these forums, just that they offer base color changes for the base CSS used. I can make some changes to skins, but I won't go through each skin to find mistakes. If there's currently a skin you're using and, particularly in the case of color mismatches, you find issues, post it here and I will see about doing some post-load tweaks like I've done for slate tags and @mentions.

RE: Spoiler tags & Slate skin
Some of the plugins don't seem to be in the plugin list. They said it updates every night at midnight, so I'll check again over the next few days. They might've got de-listed for possible incompatibility with the new version.

RE: Reactions to 08192015 Update
Composition/comment elements being at the top of the post instead of the bottom is objectively terrible. There's no reason at all that after reading a long ass post one should have to scroll back up to the top to hit reply or quote.
I actually just experienced the whole "why do I have to scroll up to reply to a post" as I was reading yours. I'm sure the people that made this software are not used to posters like you, and thus, never considered not seeing all of one post in a small space.
Edit being behind a menu box otherwise used for social media shit makes no goddamn sense. Also, see above re: scrolling up. So if you read over your post you're adding two different clicks just to get to edit when you notice something wrong.
I don't mind the edit move so much, since it seems like it might be used less often than the other ones, but I have no data on that.
It's not just me, right? Typing in the composition box vanishes off the bottom of the screen?
Mine used to do that and it also used to be fuzzy/blurry for some completely unknown reason. It cleared up for me, however, and I think it might fix if you expand the response screen to full size?

@HelloRaptor said:
but the other complaints seem more like "I took my car in to fix some bugs with its power steering and when it came out they'd also given me giant spinner rims with 'I LOVE ASS' in LEDs, and a paint job of Mohammud fucking a camel along both sides."
Well, it's more like, "Hey, here's a giant lavender room with eight chairs, five tables and a barstool, feel free to come in and mostly do whatever you want." Then, it gets painted bright white and there was some trouble with opening and closing the door on the first day, everyone got glasses that let them see it in a different color and the barstool was moved behind 3-dots on the floor. I mean, yeah, not what you were expecting or used to, but as was mentioned, I didn't actually do the design, just the upgrade.
Thank you for keeping the board up to date, @Glitch. The login problem was a huge fucking pain in the ass. I'm not actually holding you responsible for the interface changes made by some faceless assholes elsewhere on the internet. You're doing your job, inasmuch as this is a 'job' of any kind.
I hope it's fixed. Also, it looks like the gateway issue has gone away, but I'll be keeping an eye on it.

RE: Reactions to 08192015 Update
Yeah, some time after 1 a.m. EST, it looks like there were no completed connections to the forums. This morning, I did a fresh install after all of the 504s and 502s yesterday due to memory issues. I'm keeping an eye on memory usage right now and will try to keep tabs on it throughout the day.

RE: Topics and the Groups they can belong to
Okay, so there's a new group here which should allow anyone to join. Once you join, you can see and post to the new Book category.
-
RE: Topics and the Groups they can belong to
@surreality @Three-Eyed-Crow Yeah, I don't mean so much the meat and potatoes of MSB to be parceled off. Also, the groups can be open access, so you can just join ones you're interested in without applying or whatever. Mostly I meant it as a possibility for offshoot type stuff that you might not usually find here, but that might be of interest to people.
A readers group isn't a bad idea. Might be a decent test group just to let people explore it.
-
RE: Topics and the Groups they can belong to
@TNP Because not everyone is interested in everything and the groups don't have to be strictly related to the current categories on MSB. The groups and topics would be for easier categorization and allow for easier self-selection. If people decide they don't want to explore the possibilities, they'll be left unexplored. I'm just bringing attention to the opportunity.

Topics and the Groups they can belong to
In a blatant attempt draw some attention away from the horrors of the upgrade, there are some features of the forums that I'd like to open up to suggestions.
Groups are a thing and we can have topics and sub-topics that are only available to groups. While this is nothing new to forums in general, I'd like to open things up to people here for use. Do you want to try a PbP? Multiple groups for different settings? A super secret group for TS (@EmmahSue will be the admin auto-added to all such groups)? Groups for gaming interests?
Let's hear those ideas! In future upgrades (whoops), groups will likely come with more functionality, so why not play with them now?

RE: Reactions to 08192015 Update
@WTFE Dude, I'm seriously sorry, without the slightest trace of sarcasm, that you're having issues, but it isn't because of the theme itself. From the image you posted, that's the jankiness from the caching issue rearing its head. It's closer to 95% of the UX being the same, when it's working, you know, for the rest of us. Blame the Great Firewall or something, not me. Okay, partially me, but only in that lawn-care sort of way.
-
RE: Reactions to 08192015 Update
@WTFE I'm going to assume you're only half talking to me, so I'll just address the change here. For the most part, the UX is pretty much unchanged, though the theme has certainly undergone an overhaul. This upgrade actually allows a little more in the way of customization for users by letting them select a color palette that might be more pleasing to them. Otherwise, the menu is in the same spot, most of the buttons are the same, really the only thing that has changed is the edit button for posts is now in a little dropdown and cache-clearing was (and is) required to fix some of the visual glitches from the change.
As for the more ranty half of the post, your lawn is looking particularly fine today.

RE: Reactions to 08192015 Update
@Bobotron That's a caching issue. See @Miss-Demeanor's post on how to clear it for various browsers, though for chrome, you just need to clear the images and files checkbox or whatever, not everything.
