Having played Dresden in tabletop with a +8 in control for spellcasting before having any foci... it is gonzo, and I love it.

Chargen is an issue, yeah. I would start with some HRs there. Firstly, we need an XP:Money ratio of some sort, that is 1:1 post CG. Then, you buy everything with the xp pool.

If we can't do the XP:Money thing, then I strongly suggest folks start out as infomorphs or basic hoomanz, and buy upgrades/new things on grid. And actually buy them. I dislike the vague non-number for prices in the book.

@Misadventure Task resolution is 'd00, roll under skill' with modifiers that raise or lower your effective skill. Some things can't be used untrained, I THINK, but could be wrong.

Quick, off the cuff idea for morphs - for those familiar with DSS from... years ago. Star Wars: Age of Alliances or Serenity MU. You have your base stats and skills. Then your morph can be +equipped, or whatever, which will then modify the base numbers. This leads to needing objects for every morph, but that's fine, because transhuman customization fun.

Inner-system time is doable, because the planets are close-ish. Outward is harder.

Code for it will be tricky because of morphs. Your stats and skills change based on your body, which isn't terribly HARD to do. But it is extensive.

Werewolf is almost always my default, because I settle into the wolf mindset easier. If Mummy were an option, I would totally do that instead, but alas, it is not. SO.

Elodoth Iron Master daredevil ripoff is a very real possibility, but I may be convinced to vampire. Indecision abounds.

Ego casting takes time. It occurs at light speed because of data transmission, but unless you want to then run around as digital version of yourself, you have to take take to upload into a body (which varies, depending on if you are a full robot, synthetic brain, or organic brain). It's part of the theme. You don't HAVE to ego cast. Just live on your station or ship or outpost and never visit other places. Easy.

I do not personally mind the wait time of flying. But I can understand the issue folks might have with a week of real time flight to get from one planet to a another. Trying to suss out a happy medium.

THE ITCH HAS RETURNED. ALL HAIL ECLIPSE PHASE!

Re: spaceflight. Something something, Macguffin exoplanet something, mega engines. Not as fast as egocasting, but better than the average 26 day wait to go from Venus to Mars, for instance (note: that is standard transport. Fast Transports and Destroyers are 13 days. Antimatter couriers are 6.5 days). A possible 2:1 time ratio drops this further! Yes, I know that's still a lot. But I am a kerbal nerd. Also possible: autopilots!

@Arkandel said in Shadows over Reno:

@lordbelh My actual question is... if everything is new - characters, story. game even - then why Reno?

Was GONNA be LA, but someone else jumped on that bandwagon, and they didn't feel like being copycats.

When he opens the thread about a Shadowrun harem, everyone demand a 1:1 time ratio, because other time speeds are mah bane.

New issue discovered, re: linear karma.

When attributes become easy to raise, purchasing 'ware or adept powers to do so becomes inefficient.

There is Let Freedom Ring, but Nagah are not allowed (despite being on the wiki under the chargen section), so I say 'hiss hiss' to them, for I am dapper snek.

Modules are super neat, but the more I look at it, the more it looks like if we are keeping them, we need to keep them by the book, and write our own to fill in the gaps.

    • RE: ISO Collaborators for Shadowrun

Second regret: if there is no bonus to have from taking a module, there is nothing encouraging people to take them over just having a pile of karma to spend on whatever... BUT. Giving modules an advantage destroys the purpose of customizing them so that they give you XP to spend on THINGS, rather than just having points.

My only regret is forgetting the book only has North American countries in their pre-generated modules. Luckily, it's literally just 'have a pool of 15 karma for these skills'.

It is not terribly impossible, and i we DO end up using the life modules, it will be hella easier than having to code all the variables. Things to sort out!
