RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
If you like but an opt-in public @handle doesn't need much explanation. Especially with no requirement to link character to handle and no limit on # of handles.

RE: D&D Stew
How do people feel about one shots running about 4 hours. Is that something you think tabletop gamers enjoy or do you think it's just something that groups that have been in a longform campaign do to mix things up?
-
RE: D&D Stew
Not to spoil Curse of Strahd 5e but the joke is when run properly it is not when players finish the module but IF they finish the module. It is meant to be one of those campaigns that ends horribly or even in outright failure. If that isn't your cup of tea or your DM isn't comfortable playing in that headspace I would question whether you're getting an authentic experience.
That being said looking forward to running Baldur's Gate Descent into Avernus. I think it'll be the bridge between 5e as it is now and planescape.

RE: D&D Stew
WOTC has kind of admitted that their survivalist aspirations in their 5e modules and the way they designed the ranger were poorly handled. That's one of the reasons a lot of DMs house rule the hex crawl of Storm King's Thunder, ToA and Out of the Abyss.
Personally I enjoy the Hex crawl I just dislike that having a ranger negates it completely.

RE: D&D Stew
I've DM'd through...
Waterdeep Dragon Heist
Tomb of Annihilation
DnD Essentials Part 1
Some of Ghosts of SaltmarshI've played through...
Mines of Phandalin
Some of Storm King's Thunder5e is definitely the most DM friendly version of DND I have ever run. I however do not get to be a player very often </3.
I will say for people who want to run a module or play in a module that DND Essentials is very well well and so is Curse of Strahd. I would avoid Tomb of Annihilation personally or Storm King's Thunder, though I may be biased.

RE: Arx's Elevation Situation
Yes I was answering your question with a question. Why do houses choose elevation? The benefits of elevation are almost non-existent so there is a reason people are seeking this thing that is all work and a name change for no other benefit than the name change. Whether it's lack of other avenues for engagement or a desire to be org focused. Once the varying answers for why Keaton, Stahlben, Mazetti, Pravus, etc etc all sought elevation are identified then you can look at changes to the game to promote other less disruptive options.
I think very few people actually wanted elevation as the first choice for their time and effort. Pravus is unique in that the Hundred Cities is written to suggest shifts in power and status should be the norm so they had a narrative motivation for it. The other Houses though created their own reasons/drives for it and why they decided to sink time into that instead of learning magic or exploring the world or something else is important.
TLDR - Answer why people choose elevation and provide what they really want then people will stop seeking elevation and lieges won't be the bad guys.

RE: Arx's Elevation Situation
There is very little functional difference between a GH and a Duchy except title. There is even less day to day RP difference between a GH and a Duchy for its players. We've all seen that metaplot significance isn't solely linked to SR of a character either. So the real issue is why do people want to elevate? It's progress, something to accomplish and something to do. What can we provide them as an alternative to that elevation which in truth is just a gold star/sticker of progress?

RE: Personal Agency for Personal Boundaries
Meandering thought post, but to clarify.
I am making the argument that because the function of +nope (or the proposed system in this thread) is already available. There isn't a 'new' risk being introduced. It is merely staff informing their playerbase that yes you can do this without being censured. So it is pro policy discussed.
-
RE: Personal Agency for Personal Boundaries
I'm not sure I understand the issue.
At any time someone can go ooc Oh there's a storm rolling in
Then they DC.
How is that functionally different than +nope or ooc Yeah we're not doing that or ooc Can we FTB or ooc I've paged staff for guidance? Almost every game in the hobby including non-consent games (even dirty MUD non-consent games) have a form of FTB/Handwave/Skip it for things like rape (if it's even allowed) or torture or graphic depictions of things. Isn't this entire thing just codifying and giving a user permission to do it?
Isn't this +nope/xcard/conversation proposing a policy that informs the player that yes we will permit you to FTB/Handwave a scene without censuring you? Which brings up abuse but every mechanic or policy in the world not just on MUs has the *exception unless you abuse it. There's children tales (the boy who cried wolf) that teaches at a very young age do not abuse the implicit trust you are given or else.
EDIT - Minor additional note here...
One of my personal peeves is that people come to MSB and post about gripes like oh soandso did this thing I was uncomfortable with. Then that person goes hey uh I didn't know and they talk it out after a name and shame. At least this proposed system puts people in a direct conversation (even if it has to include staff) before they get put on blast on MSB and have to reach out and explain they didn't mean too or they didn't know it was being taken that way etc etc.
-
RE: Personal Agency for Personal Boundaries
Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.
I don't think anyone has said that it should be standardized across all MUs current and in development so isn't this just like any other policy ever? Staff preference and willingness to take on extra work?

Last one I promise. No need to worry even if complaint that necro'd this thread is fake here's a real one from a phone (harder to fake) and from a long time player with a history!
PS - Sorry for bringing the MUD stuff over here but... Woof this guy.

RE: Armageddon MUD
I am having this discussion on another board but the issue with online 'proof' is it's all fakeable. As we have seen in this thread. Someone had brought up oh well screen to screen.
I figured out how to fake that too.
Enable windows clipboard history
Click on the userid you want to display and copy it
Open voice call with the witness, share program or monitor 1
go click copyid of a user
windowskey + v
on the way down to message line click original userid you copied earlier
click message line
ctrl+vWith a little practice, you can do it without them noticing as it just takes a click and you can flit back over. In addition windowskey+v to bring clipboard history doesn't create an icon on the toolbar at the bottom of a desktop so if you're sharing program only or monitor 1 and not all monitors they cannot see it at all.
When I pointed this out to someone advocating it's very simply to verify they then said oh well give me remote access at which point I'm like so we can't trust someones word or their screenshots or their real time screen to screen now we're saying give me remote access to your computer or it's fake?
-
RE: Armageddon MUD
A longterm player like Shaleah or I might have been willing to do a screensharing option. Someone who evidently tried the game for some amount of time a month or shorter, why would they care to let staff see her desktop or even go to further effort than fire off the proof and if they don't accept it damn them she already posted to reddit anyway.
-
RE: Armageddon MUD
Armageddon has a board similar to MSB which points out disagreements with staff and the like. Discusses the game because the staff used to (could still) over moderated the official game board. Thus they can claim it's disgruntled ex-players looking to hurt the game which has been claimed before.

RE: Armageddon MUD
Correct you can't change it to an existing ID but when someone is providing screenshots. As soon as someone finds out they change their user# , dispute them. If someone updates with new screenshots of you having this new name# you go photoshop! They clearly changed it after realizing we'd -caught- them.

There is dispute over it's the real Shalnooshboosh. People are requesting a screenshot of the name#0001 ID. I would like to point out anyone can change their name#0001 ID which I learned while trying to get proof someone was Cullen! You see they had the same username as Cullen on discord BUT the #0001 numbers were different. Someone else tested and you can do this.
Jeshin#0001
change to Bob#5555
change back to Jeshin#3214
You always get a new ID tag so you can claim I've been impersonated every time!
