RE: Social Conflict via Stats
I want a system where cooperating, where going along with what's happening and 'taking the loss' is incentivized. I like the idea of entering a social conflict, and letting people have 'rounds' where they can reinforce their initial positions by leveraging social resources. Then..I'm not sure, here's where feedback might be good.
Then, maybe whoever gives in first GETS the social resources that were 'bet' during the conflict? And in our game in particular, there's no way we'd be able to let someone use a player on player social conflict vehicle to make someone do something permanently binding - such as swear an oath or sign a writ.

I disagree entirely with @Tempest, I don't think staff babysitting is necessary at all for long-term RP either in WoD or other genres.
Wait, I thought you were the one who said that ideally games should have staffers devoted solely to reaching out to every player to ask if they were ok, and had any problems? Do you just mean "for rp to happen"?

RE: Social Conflict via Stats
@Arkandel That all or nothing permanent social imperative success works in a tabletop setting but not so much in a MU imo. You have to, common sense, have some arbitration. Yes, social rolls should be abided by unless it goes counter to a core tenet of your character, or lasts forever and ever, etc. You're just going to have to mediate some situations.

@alexrocker So if you don't piss on people you are breaking the theme?

RE: Book Recommendations
I want Rothfuss to write more, though. I do like his prose. But yeah, wise man's fear was...wow. He has 2.75 characters in either book that I actually give half a shit about. I wish he'd just write the adventures of Elodin. That, I would read.

Has anybody truly changed their minds about it?
Over time, Wora/Swofa/Wora/Soapbox and discussions with people I know has changed my mind on quite a lot. Most people may treat these forums like a donkey show,
Oh my goodness.
Definitely agreed. It's what I mean by 'we give by inches'
Oh my GOODNESS.

RE: Armageddon MUD
@thugheaven I dunno, I found the ad interesting. I mean, I can't get down with the odd defenses - like @AlexRocker , just don't do that. The RP doesn't choose anyone, and I feel there's a vast gulf between 'not being too nice' and 'pissing on people you've mugged'.

RE: Book Recommendations
I agree with what seem to be your thoughts on Sanderson, though I think the progression is backwards. if you read his earlier stuff, it is WAY more uh...juvenile and optimistic than, say, Way of Kings. Way more. I think he's making strides, even if I don't ever think he'll write anything you could call "gritty".
But Way of Kings is coming along nicely, and I really liked Mistborn. Mostly. Ignoring the teenage romance. Mostly I read his stuff and marvel that his outlook on life is clearly much more positive than my own. I'll just be over here in the Joe Abercrombie corner of cynicism.

RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
@Arkandel OR it would turn the players into ravening fun-policers, so ready to chastise someone for daring to step outside a pose order or do All the Things that they are willing to champion it for games they don't even play!*
*Like you, I'm talking shit on you, and what you're doing right now. In case that wasn't clear.

you might call someone the wrong title - generally they'll correct you. it might be mean, the way they do it, but they will correct you
ok but why though
Like, that does not sound welcoming. None of what you said sounds welcoming to someone new to the game, except that someone might deign to answer ooc questions on an ooc discord.

Goddammit, friend_07, stop trying to "fix" my issue with advice that doesn't work unless I am
- A spoiled goddamn toddler who is willing to make everything about me, and
- In possession of a body that isn't broken as fuck.
But thanks for reminding me, on what was starting out to be a cool, chill morning, why I continue to struggle with depression. Good job. Had a great weekend, but that shit's over now.
Ok but all I did was link you "two monks invent art" galleries! I AM SORRY

No, I don't, and that's not even in the link I reposted. That you originally posted. -

People need to learn a lot of things. Not sure how that's relevant to the actual world we inhabit, though.

RE: Policies
@Arkandel No. There are people playing Arx that I didn't get along with at all in other games. Heck, there are people I DESPISED at other times/in other games playing Arx.
The exception would be if someone had been excessively creepy in other games, like stalking or harassing players or being generally gross and scary.
