@D-bone No, you should have made a poll if you wanted a vote and no discussion around it! Can you make polls on this board? I doubt it.

@D-bone You asked for a check for interest?

Please tell me if this interests you. Now, please stop telling me how/why it interests you.

@Anadventurer No, they will never stop talking about it. Then you'll have to move 60 pages of this thread to a hog pit thread, and it will STILL come up on occasion.

      Just hazarding a guess.

There is no way for anyone to enforce this rule. I still think it's probably smart to avoid a lot of possibly problematic rp going on overtly that you don't want on your game.

@Anadventurer , banning anything on your game is going to cause a lot of argument and probably keep some people away, and so be it, IMO.

Yeah, seems like a fairly smart thing to say in a game about animu, where literally 98% of characters are very young teens.

Rule #3.5 - It is just a game.
Nothing matters in the end. If someone is so worked up they are seriously, seriously upset about a game matter, tell them to chill the fuck out.

This one makes me giggle. I remember once talking about staffing or requests or something and someone was like "what if it is an emergency?"

And I'm thinking, 'this is a game. It is impossible that anything occurring in this game is an emergency."

    • RE: MSB MU*?

@Faceless Not that it is relevant to this discussion, but:

People who come to you saying "OMG SO AND SO SAID X ABOUT YOU" are not your buddies, and should be told to stop or cut from your life. At the very least, they should absolutely not be taken at face value, because their only motivation is to watch drama, so the goal is shit stirring. Not honesty. Not just 'letting you know'.

I'll paraphrase a comment my mom once made about her native California, "Its the most beautiful piece of land on God's green Earth, unfortunately the Seattlites live there."

Man. Lived in the valley for a couple of years, and this is EXACTLY how I feel about southern California. Goddamn gorgeous place, it would be the perfect place to live if it wasn't full of Californians.

OR you could say the sensible thing would be to keep it to yourself if you don't like X thing other people are talking about liking. I mean, I hate Star Wars, but when people are like omg the new Star Wars so fun!!!11 I don't assume that's my moment to shine and go ham on their enjoyment. That's just me, though. Cash me ousside.

Well, a lot of people like it. Luckily, using ASCII art is completely, 100% opt in! So you don't have to if you don't like it.

@Rook We don't put up with it quietly.

Doesn't stop it from happening! But I don't mean to derail with some 'omg all players are entitled dicks' complaint, because I don't feel that way. Like I said, it's a vocal minority. Most people are cool and engaged and appreciative.

@Tempest said in Which canon property/setting would be good for a MU* ?:

It's very rare these days for staff to want to put in the effort (or understand how) to build a world/setting that players can actually impact or has anything going on.

There's a reason for this. Well, there are probably a thousand reasons for this, but there's one specific one I'm thinking of, and it's "my god are people entitled dicks (sometimes) about the effort you put into making story for them".

Not everyone, not even most people, but when you get loud complainers it can really sour you on the idea. Why take a chance writing a badass plot thing for someone when they might:

      A. take it, act on it, make you write a billion cool clues/scenes, and then BITCH ON PUBLIC CHANNELS THEY GET NO GAME INVOLVEMENT, or to their friends in discord who think it's cool to bring it to you as a 'complaint with merit' they are concerned about.

B: take it, get super involved, get you super involved, and then flake the fuck out as soon as something doesn't go the way they want in a conflict

😄 ignore it/not get enthused at all

Also someone should make a FMA:B game. I would play that. I want to be Izumi Curtis ok thank you

@Jaded I think you might be overestimating how much fun a "i want a seven piece armor set made of GOLD that shows off my BUTT" is for a crafter.

I mean, maybe there's a unicorn out there that really, really, likes to RP taking measurements and dithering over prices.

      I just have my doubts.

The shops were implemented because I think crafters would probably like to be able to rp about non commission stuff, and maybe, MAYBE have time to work on projects they like, to put up for sale. It's my fond dream to have a grid with stores where there's actual stuff to browse.

So make people desc their own, in shops! that was a key tenet of the shop design.

@bored said in Good Political Game Design:

I keep wanting to make a permanent version of this I can link to, but I've brought it up in a couple places: L&L games tend to hit the trap of doing a very structured, CK2-like concept of feudalism, where dukes rule counts and counts rule barons or lords etc. Or Clan Leaders rule irrelevant noble families that no one cared about at all (Firan). Almost inevitably, the power of these figures is exponential moving up the hierarchy.

This is both wrong from even the slightest look at history, and stupid from a play design perspective. You want your primary actors to be at parity. Now, maybe it's fine to have only your Dukes etc sitting at the main council (and, see above, I'm in favor of a primary council-like entity that probably maxes out at around 10 people), but all the lesser lords should have pretty much comparable resources, so that their loyalty and assistance is something you rely on, not something you demand.

And to date, basically every L&L game ever gets a big fat F on this one.

People who don't know history always forget how weak monarchies were before Absolutism.

Anyway, right now, this is how Arx is set up, too. And like every other L&L game, politics has been hoarded in the hands of a few.

This isn't how it is in Arx, and in fact we have counseled High Lords that their action would lead to their downfall because at any level of vassalage, the combined might of the vassals outweighs the liege. If the HL of FactionX did something stupidly aggressive against his vassal and the others decided that was not an ok precedent and they banded together, they would absolutely outman the high lord.
