    • RE: Sin City Chronicles

@Thenomain Not only making things easy for staff but also for players. It gives the game more focus. In my opinion when you have multiple sphere's the game gets diluted down and the stories are... tricky.

How do you reconcile what a werewolf can do, with what a vampire can do, with what a mage can do? What is challenging or difficult for one sphere is amazingly easy for the other and unfortunately it also makes it hard to shine and encourages massive optimization (I know, there will be those who do that anyway) in order to compete with the other splats.

As for the code? I am not as good a coder as you are. I freely admit that. So I like that in a single sphere I can focus on getting that /one/ thing right.

    • RE: POLL: Super Hero MU Gut Check

@Ghost See for me the moment a MU fails, is because it has levels.

Level based systems are inherently segregating /and/ have a finite cap (usually) which means eventually people break the game for everyone else.

I would play the hell out of a pure OC super hero game, no matter what system it used, so long as it wasn't pure consent.

Sudden flashbacks to The Reach having to actually implement rule for length of time after approval before you can be involved in PK due to Javier(?) getting somebody to app in and help him kill Shane. (The fight scene was like 30 minutes post-approval, iirc.)

      Good times.

This is some old school shit, man. I remember someone trying that on me on Tartarus.

I remember on Tartarus, I was on day 1 with my silver fang, and got pk'd by the head staffer with their gen 6 Brujah that had Protean 6 etc... never went back to that game.

    • RE: What locations do you want to RP in?

@Ghost In WoD/CoD I've always felt that you needed a bright place to contrast the darkness. It doesn't have to be a family restaurant or a chuck e cheese, but there shouldn't be everywhere is grim/dark.

There should be a dark side to everything but it's not exactly necessary to be out in the open where everyone can see it. Most people even in the WoD/CoD do not come into contact with the monsters, so having a slice of life place can be fine but yeah, lately, I agree that there's not enough 'bad' on the grid on many games.

Or at least the games that I've glanced at.

EDIT to Add: Without contrast, things have less impact.

@kay ICONS is actually ok. It's kind of interesting and I like the way it comes together. It is a lower power level type of system which is fine for all OC's honestly.

I have been thinking about this because of Dawn of War 3 as well, I really liked DoW 1 and 2. Not familiar with the Endless * games but it had nice artwork which is a plus. Total War Warhammer is an /outstanding/ game too.

    • RE: Where do you draw the line in having your character take what would otherwise be an "IC" action for them?

There is always crossover, it is absolutely impossible to not have IC/OOC crossover because the OOC person is still playing the character, and making choices for them, so the separation is difficult to really say where that line is.

In the end, it's a game, have fun. If something is making it not fun, then alter things so that it is fun. If that means not doing something ICly in one way then that is fine imho. That goes both ways though, since other people are playing, we need to be flexible and understand we might need to not just stick to the IC guns if it's going to ruin other people's fun.

      That's just being a jerk.

@thatguythere Oh that Icons, that one has pretty high power levels too, I was thinking of one of the other systems I guess... there are so many now!

    • RE: New Superhero Game Looking for Staff/Feedback

@Ominous That's the thing, there's a lot of different systems but /none/ of them really translate to MU* format well. You can hack Fate or use one of the Fate super settings, that works well for cinematic stuff. You can go the opposite route and go with say, Hero System.

Honestly... if you can successfully patch afflictions, and fix the broken feats that totally alter your power scale... then M&M isn't /bad/ per se.

As for changing the world, this needs to be possible. Nothing is more game killing for a super hero game (for me) than knowing that no matter what I do... it doesn't matter to the game world at all.

    • RE: How to Change MUing

Personally, the game I am working on I am trying to automate /as much as fucking possible/ just to lessen staff loads and allow them to focus on what's important. RP.

Will it completely disable +jobs? Nope. But it will lighten the load. I am automating xp spending (except for unlocking out of clan disciplines), XP gain, building (except for actual placement), gear/equipment, status wars, blood pools, etc.

I do hope it will make people be more inclined to realize /they/ control their fun, and they can progress that fun at their leisure without needing to wait around.

@thatguythere @Lithium - I'm looking specifically at this one https://greenroninstore.com/products/icons-superpowered-roleplaying-the-assembled-edition since one of my friends brought it up as a promising alternative. I'm not familiar with it at all, but it sounds like you are both familiar with it. Do you think it would work well for a MU*?

Yeah that's the one I was thinking of that is lower powered. I almost used it for a project I was working on, it was a good system that I think would be ok with a few tweaks.

@ghost That's the 2nd arc I believe, it got a lot of flack but I enjoyed it too. Sword Art Online is one of those love/hate anime's there's not a lot of middle ground from those that have seen it.

    • RE: MU Pacing

I am horrible about this. Everything needs to be natural for the characters for me. Even if I /made/ the character with the intent of becoming another characters Thrall or Regnant or whatever. If it's not natural, then it doesn't happen, I don't force /anything/.

Makes for great long term RP even when it is 'arranged' to an extent, but I can also understand how frustrating this can be to others who don't share the same feelings when it comes to that sort of thing.

Case in point, my Regnant on Reno is constantly being harrassed by another vampire OOCly who apparently, is really into them on an OOC level even /before/ they interacted, (his wiki-fu must be terribly strong). They want to plot out all these different stuff, some of it involving me and my Regnant is like:

Look, I don't mind having an idea of a direction to go, but this way you're trying to do it would get you killed.

To which my Regnant basically gets told they are having wrongfun.

Just goes to show that different pacing and RP styles can be contentious all in their own, but everyone needs to respect that not everyone agrees on things.

@kairos said in Interest check: pure OC superhero game:

IMO, the potential pitfall of an OC world is the amount of explaining staff have to do for people to get even a halfway decent gasp of it and even then they're probably still going to do things that are iffy-to-gamebreaking without meaning to because their conception of the setting is different to Staffs without a lot of active policing.

And while that's true of Earth or Earth Analogue settings to a degree, at least you can expect people to be familiar with the basic rules and history of the world. And if they're not, there's always google.

This is, of course, not to say 'don't do it'. Just 'doing it is going to be a LOT more work'.

Not necessarily. You can have an OC game set in an already established world if you really wanted to. Something happened, all the established heroes had to lose their powers/die in order to defeat it. Now a new generation is rising up, etc.
