@peasoupling I agree that timescale is a big thing, but the ongoing thing is that people are /ignoring/ all the social fu that they /shouldn't/ be. Social Combat should be worth investing into, and it's not, except against NPC's most of the time.

This idea of player agency is just /bad/ imho, because you lose player agency the moment you start playing with others. It isn't /you/ being manipulated, it's the /character/, it's a role-playing game, not a self-empowerment fantasy.

The character is going to /change/ and it is the point of the game to /enjoy/ those changes, and role-play them.

If you want player agency that is completely inviolate, then play on consent games.

The entire point of a non-consent game is the player does not have control.

NOTE: The you in this is not directed @peasoupling or anyone else, but just the nebulous 'you'.

@the-sands The problem here is /we/ as people are convinced to do stuff we wouldn't want to do /all the time/. We get manipulated, it doesn't change who we are, doesn't change our concept. The idea that nobody can be manipulated is just obtuse.

Why would you use War against the Pure, but not allow Werewolf?

I am completely at a loss here...

@the-sands That's fair, and I agree. I just feel it is one of those things that you can either modify for the different medium between TT and MU*, or you can be comfortable with people being separated for a time. We used to be comfortable with that, and it was navigated around by back scenes and alts. Not sure why we are afraid of it now...

My whole point for the khuiper belt pandora gate though was that it isn't controlled by a single faction, like the other gates are. That's all.

@surreality For me it was just learning to not look at the tablet, at all. I have a Wacom Intuos 3 that I have used /forever/ and will use until it somehow dies on me. You just look at the screen, and let your fingers and hand do the driving.

I won't lie, at first it was hard as hell, everything was weird, but I got used to it to the point that now when I look at my hand when I try to draw, so I can see what I am drawing, my hand is in the frikken way and it seems so /slow/ now.

It's not about hand eye screen coordination in that respect, it's just learning how to view the screen as the paper, and not care what your hand is doing so long as what is going on on the screen is right.

@the-sands All of the Gates I was talking about, were referencing the Pandora Gates, the bridges to other worlds, which seem a perfect device for PrP's and plot fu beyond stuff happening on the station here.

Not some sort of timelocked gate between different sections of the station.

@the-sands There is a /huge/ difference between boats on an MMO and a /reason/ to have PrP's. The GM's can activate the gates as necessary/desired at the whim of plot and PrP, it is the perfect tool to tell stories that do not fit well on station.

I am trying to find a negative here for the gates, and I really can't, because it gives options for PrP's in Eclipse Phase beyond something going on, on station, that somehow doesn't affect the others on the station, etc.

@the-sands Limited time windows? Sounds like perfect opportunity for PrP's and such to me...

    • RE: World of Darkness -- Alternative Settings

@faraday Quite possible. For some Niche is a genre, for others it is a rule set, for others still it is a setting.

I have seen some successful games using settings and rulesets that would be considered 'niche' here, but I have also seen games that are not niche die horribly.

There's a lot of things that make a successful game, but I don't personally believe that being 'niche' is one of them on general principle.

    • RE: World of Darkness -- Alternative Settings

@faraday I think a niche game can work, and work well. The problem isn't just not understanding a system or setting, that can be gotten past relatively easy with good documentation and active staff.

The problem is that most 'niche' games are opened by a small group, who then only cater to that small group, and everyone else is left high and dry.

I would vote for a place with a gate. I think there are three in the system, but only one is not controlled heavily by the corporations, the one out in the Khuiper Belt. Yes it is a long ways out, but it allows for the greatest variety of character concepts and faction loyalty.

@ghost That's the 2nd arc I believe, it got a lot of flack but I enjoyed it too. Sword Art Online is one of those love/hate anime's there's not a lot of middle ground from those that have seen it.

@surreality It was /hard/ learning how to use my drawing tablet, but now I can't draw on regular paper to save my life. The ability to correct mistakes so easily using tablet and photoshop or mangastudio is just... It's amazing.
