    • RE: Working on Theme, Focus and Challenges

I'd put a time limit on how often the plot in a box can be used. Otherwise there will be people who just run the command and go through it with zero consequences to jack their character progression way high.

Otherwise, not a bad idea... except there needs to be risk to it. If there's no risk of death or meaningful failure then it's just an xp candy shop.

    • RE: Straw Poll: XP Spending in nWoD/CoD

Seems like it wouldn't be hard to do a check to see if the thing being bought was a valid thing for the 'special' xp. For example:

      +xp/spend Gnosis

This would then check the * for what it was, if it was Gnosis it would then default to using the banked Arcane XP, or whatever Arcane XP was available plus regular xp. If the wildcard was not Gnosis, Cover, or Vitriol then it would just use regular xp with regular xp spending. Simple if/then would cover that and I am unsure why it would require a mass amount of excess coding for that.

I still like the banking xp idea though, wish I'd thought of it before that way you could see where your character is developing based on what you think the character should be increasing. It'd be even better (to me anyways) if the xp spends were /blind/. Then you'd just grow your character somewhat organically but I realize that a (probably) large segment of players who are used to sheet building wouldn't like this idea.

for this kind of a situation, I'd actually do something like an XP bank. Where a person could bank xp into a spend. Take Arcane as the running example.

+xp/spend Arcane=6 (to bank 6 xp into it)
+axp/spend Arcane=8 (to bank 8 Arcane xp into it)

Then when you hit the magic number needed for an increase, boom, done. You have new level of arcane.

+axp would stand for alternate xp, so could be used for any splat that had something similar.

I would jump all over an Al Qadim or Sigil based game. With or without the D&D system.

I had an original campaign game that was loosely based on Al Qadim for a while and it was a ton of fun to run.

Dark Sun is my favorite setting though, I even stomached the 4e conversion to play it and it was still fun.

@Sparks That kind of reminds me of the dice system I coded once where you could set a password only you could see that verified if rolls were spoofed or not without having to have spammy nospoof code set. Different function of course, but I like the idea of individual passwords used in code. Also was used in system to stop @forcing, if the originator's code didn't match the enactor and the originator wasn't staff then it stopped the code from functioning. This was big when I was automating some things but I eventually think I went with setting everyone's locks at creation of player object.

@Thenomain Ah. Sorry. Not trying to be nit picky on the sissy, was more just conversing on how I liked that they were adapting beyond the whole: Genophage is killing us thing.

The system I am writing puts more focus on skills than attributes. Attributes are only used when a skill is not learned at all, and that's a bad thing. Otherwise what attributes do is provide soft cap limits on skills after which skills become more expensive (But not exhorbitantly so).

When I have more of it ready to go will continue to add, but I am a bit tired of systems where attributes are king.

      And?

@Auspice Clearly they have no idea about the wide variety of mothers out there.

Some of them are so over protective they don't let their child do /anything/ and others smother any attempt at reaching to new heights.

Sometimes this is based out of fear for the child, fear of losing the child, or just some psychotic need to dominate their offspring in order to have a sense of power for themselves.

I'd say to do it anyways and prove them wrong.

All the Krogan are more nuanced. Tho this kind of makes them seem a bit sissy for Krogan, it's so very nice to see a Warlord who is more than just combatty combat, and enough science that isn't "bombs or nothing" to make a society possible.

Sissy? Maybe. They can still fight like crazy and kill most things but they're adapting to the genophage, and they're using their best traits to do so. They're still resilient and tough as all get out, but they're finally realizing they need to /think/ to. Which is a huge evolutional step but one forced on them. It's either die out, or think, and Krogan will survive /anything/ as a race.

@Ganymede Something like the Witcher I'd probably be inclined to use something like Amber Diceless.

Just remove the Amber powers (Pattern, Broken Pattern, Logrus) and put in something more thematic. Sorcery and such should prolly still work right.

Never played any Witcher games though, so don't know, Trump Cards might have to be removed as well.

@Ganymede You have a point about the Krogan. I also liked how Drack felt more... personal than Wrex. I liked Wrex, but Drax's story with his grand daughter and all of that was really good I thought. Also interesting to see an /old/ Krogan to the point of falling apart. Not so indestructible anymore.

    • RE: Cinematic Unisystem - Dexterity Issue(?)

The system I am creating for personal scale combat doesn't have multiple actions per se, everything is resolved in one roll.

People at the start of each turn declare if they are fighting Defensively (Pure Defense), Balanced (Trying not to get hurt while still trying to hurt someone), or Offensively (With no regard to defense). These apply modifiers to your dice rolls, unless you're fighting offensively you're considered to be /trying/ to not get hurt somehow so declaring that you're trying not to get hurt and using an action for it are kind of unnecessary.

I'm hoping it'll help speed combat up.

I am in the process of developing a homegrown game system for my new project. I've been watching to much Black Sails lately (I own all 4 seasons) and I need a pirate game. I know there's 1 or 2 (I think 1 might have been cancelled by the project runner) but my need is strong!

Once I hear back from the guy who owns kydance I'll start moving on that.

    • RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff

When I started my latest job most people gain 20-30 pounds. I've lost 50 so far. I am really happy about that but I am plateauing pretty bad now.

Why did I start losing weight?

      Because I smoke.

In my previous job I was pretty sedentary didn't have to move much to have a cigarette (Literally step outside the booth I was in). Now I have to go down four floors, walk out to the smoke shack, and then have a cigarette, walk back, etc.

I also started just eating lunch every day not something I used to do. I make a sandwich, eat a mixed fruit cup, a little debbie snack of some variety, and a small bag of chips.

I also drink a lot less soda in general.

So now instead of taking the elevator up to the 4th floor, I'm taking the stairs. Oof that was rough for a while but now it's getting easy and I'm dropping more weight.

It's the little things that can make a difference @Thenomain
