I watched it like bright and early this morning, but more folks probably know. Way to go Naomi Osaka, that was awesome to see her lighting the flame as the final torch runner.

RE: Cultural differences between MUDs and MUSHes
@Pandora said in Cultural differences between MUDs and MUSHes:
it's assumed they have some reason, however good/bad that reason may be, and they can let us know later when they log on. Or not. Up to them.
It puts it on them to do the work when they couldn't conceivably be there, regardless of circumstance, rather than working together for the reason.
If anyone is giving someone a hard time OOCly about any of this, they are the ones crossing an IC/OOC line.
There is no line crossing if I ICly stab someone, ICly look for the doctor, ICly don't find the doctor, ICly bury someone in the woods.
If that's crossing an OOC line on a MUSH, then there we have yet another charming difference between MUDs and MUSHes.
In a MUD, killing is in the code, completely.
On a MUSH, we assume the rest of the IC world still exists, if you conceivable demonstrate that you stabbed them (easy, in the code), gave the IC doctor a chance to be found (timestop the scene to be fair to the player, not be a douche and say 'welp offline, they failed') or got staff to check for NPC docs for you, and then make your rolls for stealth to show you buried them without being noticed yes.
It goes to circumstance. You kill the other on a city game, have at it, bury them away. The instance involved a ship in question. You stab them on a ship, you should see if the other 100 or 1000 or whatever inhabitants didn't hear anything, also, check to see that the people running around running the ship during your frantic search for doctor didn't alert any NPC interest in your circumstance. You moved the body around, make sure no one saw the body bag being moved around.
On the MUSH, we're only saying give others a chance, but also noting the entire world exists as it logically would without having it all coded and presented. MUD is limited to what the staff has coded, the MUSH accounts for everything els.e

RE: Good TV
@wizz Agree to disagree. Gerrera existed on a sand world and he was more true cyborg than Fennec even, and the mods were just modded at best with a few benefits from the gear. The out of place thing for me there is the bright vespa speeders. I've seen nothing like that before, but I'm not as versed in the EU as some. I can see it as being a modded speeder bike, but I imagine speeders and swoops being more common on Tatooine then colorful modded speeders that go slower and don't look too tough. Like a mod prior to the modding up the naboo fighter that gives it a spoiler/air filter above the engine (I didn't know star fighters used air filters similar to older cars - and we know Jon Favreau like classic cars). I don't see a chop doc as being out of place on Tatooine, the exposed part is questionable, but other cyborgs have been on Tatooine in the cannon and covered up as much as Fennic does.
But Agree to Agree, I could have done without the mod gang in favor of nomads or tuskens or some other group filling in as low hired guns while Boba filled in the ranks. The look out of place as they're too shiny compared to the rest of the aesthetic.
ETA: I know there is mixed criticism, but from me, one of the older folks that saw SW in the theaters during its first run back in the 70s, Boba Fett has left me excited to see some of the upcoming star wars. It wasn't as good as the Mandalorian for sure, but I enjoyed it. I'm also the guy that would have been good with the continued Solo films even with some of the cannon changes it made to Solo himself.

I believe you missed an important part of @Lotherio's text: He is setting up a game where it doesn't matter. I can't tell if you're telling him that he's wrong to do so, but it sure seems like it.
No dear, I didn't miss anything. I was explaining why I don't feel it's right to view game requirements you don't meet as punitive. I think it's great to make a game with no activity requirements. I want everyone to have fun and be chill. Everyone in the world, except anyone involved in Duck Dynasty.
Damnit, the new place was a Duck Dynasty Mu*, I was making code for slacking off while making duck calls and everything.

RE: Necessary tools for running plots as a non-staff player?
I skimmed some of the biggers ones, and this might be in there ...
A tool that isn't code based but is necessary is policy or understanding of what non-staff players can actually run on their own versus stuff Staff are likely to retcon (and thus lead to falling out and game death in the other thread).
Setting up a TP/PrP policy saying 'this is all okay to run as you will' and 'if it gets to this tier (city politics, clan/gang/turf fighting between player factions/global level destruction), you must +request for prior approval' is an easy step to allowing players willing to run little things spur of the moment for friend and strangers alike the first step (by removing a hurdle) to running things and spurring some creativity and activity.
That said, I also see a necessary tool for non-staff players as having things that can be done that staff won't get upset about, so they can run ideas that strike them that doesn't upset the game balance/meta but creates fun and allows individuals to run story for personal character development.

RE: How do you discover books?
An old way to find books to read that one may not have read before is Project Gutenberg. Public domain works that are available for free on-line. It has lots of classics, lots of great old stuff, much of what has inspired what we read today.

RE: Policies
I like the Dark Water ethics policy @Thenomain, I do agree, it should apply to staff. That's about everywhere, alas. I haven't seen a separate staff ethics policy per say, but a number of places it always seemed like an understanding with the way some staff alts were treated.
As an aside, my TS policy is along the same lines, what happens in the dark stays in the dark, staff doesn't care to know about it, and make sure its okay with your partner. There's usually a other policies apply, no harassment (no means no for anything), age policy (aside from Coral Springs, I prefer 18 to 21 as minimum age to avoid kiddie stuff all together).
The one I'm on the fence about is pose courtesy. Pose order or 3pr or pose at will is more the consensus of the group in my book. The only common courtesy I like is waiting a few poses before jumping in, but don't think there needs to be policy on this either. Some folks like 'page before coming' just to see what's happening and if it all fits, but I'm more a fan of, if you're in a public place, you're in an open scene. There's tons of places to find 'private' scenes from personal rooms to TP/RP/Plot/Anything rooms.

@arkandel said in Hello MSBites! Grade your administrators.:
"Your opinion is stupid" versus "You are stupid"
Personal or not, neither is constructive. And perhaps a slipper slope, but allowing either implies any criticism is welcome. If one can call opinions stupid, then anything can be called stupid and its just a small step to personal. Half the time around here, and only my opinion, most cries of stupid about something not personal seems straw man for some other personal reason that comes out after 3 pages of dogpiling and popcorn gifs.

If it's designed for sphere interaction as you say, and not competitive between spheres, I don't see any conflict of interest in there.

RE: FS3
@Thenomain said in FS3:
How about using that hit system in Shadowrun? Would you work with me on that? Eh? Eh?
There are hit locations, used in conjunction more with armor and vehicles. As I recall at least. Even if no armor it wasn't hard to have hit locations.
Another fun thing with older FS3. Vehicles where fun and easy to set up. It was easy to make differences enough fit class of ship; on the steampunk places the naval cannons could do some damage to the air ships. But, I've not seen others do this, a vehicle could be set up to be musketeers platoon with the pilot being unit lead. Hit locations were easy to customize to like front rank or left flank. All the penetration and lethality could be set up in detail ... Bayonets with high penetration for use against mounted or anything really.
It could have extensive lists of vehicles, armors and stances to reflect a detail of military variances very easily. Everyone says it's not good for fantasy, the only thing it doesn't do is merits and flaws for bonuses or magic, but it's a great system and it has applications beyond its full intent even.

RE: In development: pure OC superhero game
30s would be awesome. 1938 The Savoy; Chick Webb vs Basie following the first big swing concert at Carnegie, Fitzgeralds pipes with Webb, Holiday with Basie, Ellington swinging in to play after the concert. 30s would be cool for OC. And I'd like an excuse ... Wild Cards style even, chemical agents

Something might come of this topic if the assholism can be toned down a notch. A world of difference between both sides and some assholes are failing to listen or consider. A shit ton of hyperbole is going on here and marring the topic.

RE: Earning stuff
I agree and disagree with the thrust of this topic; everyone wants to do something special as its in every book, tv show, etc. I see it, but then, I still think its not just those other media.
I've been doing this weird thing lately when watching the really 'good' stuff; I blame Magnificent Century because a few months ago I was watching it and realized this is just a soap opera but I was still drawn to it (probably because of the time period). I was there 30 minutes into like the third episode in a row that was dealing with this special ring Hurrem got from the Suleyman and I reflect, how did I get drawn into this; then I kept on watching.
By really good stuff, I mean popular, a lot of it is drama between characters. The really good stuff on TV may be about one or two heroes who do crazy things, but the crazy things make up like 10-15% of each episode, maybe a little more in periodic advances of major arcs. Otherwise, I'm watching 30+ minutes in a 45 minute episode of over dramatized drama. And I like it, and I assume a lot of others do too, due to popularity.
Just it is coming down to more wanting the action in a Mu and less wanting to develop the dramatized drama. Or they make fun of it, ugh social rp, ugh BarP. My most enjoyed characters that have spent less than 10-15% of the time doing special things or being in spotlight have had longer bits of drama and character development outside of the action special things. Could be me, I'm less interested in any reward and more interested in the stories. Otherwise, I go to other medium to be the protagonist (I'd go play a video game to get that feeling).

I'd disagree, again, the last admin they ran off was bullied. They not only left MSB, they left MU*'ing all together.
Clique (noun): a small group of people, with shared interests or other features in common, who spend time together and do not readily allow others to join them.
Exactly, a number of the banned and others do talk on discord. The discord as pointed out in other threads is by invite only. Curious?
ETA: Again as I said above, this is the perception to neutral parties. At the stake of whatever reputation I may have had, I'm saying its not looking good from a third party perspective (realizing some folks I respect, included you, will not like what I'm saying). I pointed out I Derp is not a friend, we've disagreed, they've argued often enough with Gany. But this does look like a dog pile.

RE: What Types of Games Would People Like To See?
@SG said in What Types of Games Would People Like To See?:
Steve Jackson Games is so weird. They have a bizarre idea of what a mush is versus online play http://www.sjgames.com/general/online_policy.html
They seem to think that mushes are professional games rather than a form of chat room. I guess kudos to people who create mushes for leaving that impression.
Yeah, I'd blame this on the 90s. It was a weird, wild time of the frontier days of internet. Like everything involving RP boiled down to copyright, like everyone thought they were developing to be professional game developers, or authors, or both. I remember being on RP listserves (email RP, talk about slow) and there was policies on what was copyright protected or not. I guess in fairness, a number of players from then did grow up to publish/self publish. Some places (more than some) did think they'd grow up to be pay-to-play and having exclusive 'rights' to run a MUSH in established IP was big. Folks would e-mail authors and such to request permission and all that. I think this is just a remnant byproduct of that Era, sort of like the GoT place and being the only endorsed place by the author or whatever.
I prefer OC, not because of the ^^ weirdness, just cause IP is already done, world building done, stories told and such for me. Like next edition, half of them will change something up theme/fluff wise anyways to sort of outdate the prior edition(s). Play what you want shall be the whole of the law; except where prohibited?

Gany is following this will of the people
Would you say that the will of the people is represented by a vocal majority?
I can't speak of modern politics to point out how the most vocal lost the last election through all the lies, that gets very political. I would say no, the vocal majority is not the will of all the people. There is still now and always has been a greater silent majority around MSB. Some of those recently banned are the ones that asked for the civil decorum and moderation, I supported it with them then. I still support it now.
Gany hasn't maliciously gone after anyone here, despite how any vocal majority might want to paint it. The perception is that they said, hey lets stop this until staff can review it. It was clearly laid out, but the line was skirted.
