To be fair, I've had to wait a lot longer to hear a first response on an app on more than one occasion. If three days is enough for someone to space cadet on the game and, from what it feels like to me, write it off as a lost cause or whatever, perhaps it's more on the complainant instead of the ones the complaint is being leveled at?

Hence my TL;DR, which my first post wasn't really supposed to be a complaint, more a 'Hey this was my experience with the game' comment. Of course this is the internet so it was also my bad for assuming that a comment that has negative tones to it could still be taken neutrally. I'll work on mah leet net skills yo.

      TL;DR
No one is at fault except myself really for getting space cadet status and forgetting about the game entirely after three days of no activity on the application. As the conversation continued I just filled people in on the facts and tried to be a little funny about it because I thought it was just funny all around that I'd A) forgotten about it entirely until I saw an update on this conversation and B) that it was eleven days before any of the Staff noticed it. I also found it funny that the +job was closed three days after it was replied to but I can understand why, considering I hadn't logged in in 11 days, see the funny there? Anyways, yeah was just trying to be a jester and if that came off as passive aggressive to some folks well then I apologize and do know that it was never intended to be anything other than a transparent discourse of the situation at hand and me trying to be humorous about the situation.

I didn't "wait", I got busy working and just didn't think about it nor go to Musoapbox for nearly a week because I was... Oh wait lemme see... busy working I think? Yeah that was it. There was no passive aggressive intent I just dropped it when I dropped it because that's when it even came to my memory that I -HAD- an application at the game. I was trying to be light hearted and humorous. You read far too much into things that were not even remotely intended, the most passive aggressive person in this conversation thus far is you sir. Have a good day.

Well that's what you get for assuming, I never said when I started my app in my original post. I also was never passive aggressive and said 'I was probably just unlucky'. You assumptions make you think I was being passive aggressive which I wasn't, I was just checking MUsoap at one point, saw FandL in my unread and dropped my thing when I happened to be not busy working my ass off or sleeping. Maybe you're the one that needs to tone down and reevaluate what other people might be doing or thinking before you go spouting off what people should or shouldn't do.

If you're talking about me being passive aggressive with my answer to 'that math doesn't add up' all I did was say 'Here's what it was', there was no passive aggressiveness intended in adding in the facts of the situation so people were no longer confused. Read last sentence from above paragraph.

Hint: This is what I'm like when I'm aggressive, there's no need to be passive aggressive in written word when you can just be aggressive. Edit: well unless it's part of a character or story I suppose but that's no the topic at hand!

That math doesn't quite add up to me, but hey, you came back. Any luck so far? Is your app done, Magee? What's the haps, yo?

The date of the @mail I received from opening the app and the date of the @mail sent when it was responded to was 11 days. Yeah, well sorta, still haven't finished that particular application but made another character in another sphere that was done in a day, but that is almost done just awaiting final approval.

@Coin Are you more used to a controller, is that why you got one for the PC instead of using a mouse+keyboard?

I've found that for third person action games I really really enjoy a controller over a mouse+keyboard.

I've owned an XBone for a year+ now and I still can't say I like using a controller. For just about anything...other than sports games, maybe.

Part of it is probably because I grew up on gaming on the original xbox, PC has only been my game system for about five years now.

I've found that for third person action games I really really enjoy a controller over a mouse+keyboard. FPS I prefer mouse and keyboard because the mouse is more accurate once you dial in your sensitivity settings. However there is a variety of game genres mostly only found on the PC that do not work well with a controller because of the various amounts of commands and shortcuts that come with using the keyboard (mainly RTS/base building style games and isometric perspective games)

I have been eyeing the steam controller too but I can get an xbox controller for about 20 bucks cheaper so that's what I did. I need to get mine repaired though, there is a loose connection in my right trigger that means it kinda wants to work sometimes or it can go days at a time without working.

@magee101 Back in my day (2005), it was lucky if -any- game had a turn around earlier than a week! So I don't think it's that big of a deal if it's just a few days.

I don't mind waiting as long as I get at least a 'Hey might be busy, but took a quick look.' Just little updates that say "Hey we're active, just too busy to sit down and finish the app today" If a guy is sitting around in a room with another guy and neither one talks, eventually someone is going to walk out of the room is all.

Alright ya'll guilt tripped me into at least looking at it, it was only 11 days before someone noticed the app was even sitting there 😛 I might maybe just might finish up the app. I've been finding it hard to stick to anything with my busy work schedule but man do I love WoD and this seems pretty neat (even if it is going to be HELLA confusing what with incorporating tiny bits of 2.0 and mixing with 1.0 and GMC, like come on, plz pick a ruleset and either make me learn 2.0 or not)

    • RE: Best IC Character Deaths

My favorite character death was on Dark Metal. I played a cybernetic pyrokinetic that had a prosthetic arm, hands and legs. At one point some Mage was trying to sink a massive section of the city with an earthquake. Using cybernetic legs, I was leaping around trying to save people from falling into the massive cracks opening in the ground and falling debris, until I managed to spot the source of the magic. I hauled my ass from the city to about like 1000 feet away from the mage, intending to tackle him and try and break his concentration.......

Just then, the Mage failed a paradox roll and went off like a nuclear device, my character was instantly incinerated, wurf.

    • RE: What does advancement in a MU* mean to you?

I like starting at a level higher than 'minimum' but I also enjoy having to RP for xp, provide justifications or finding PCs or STs to run things for that justification.

For me the best forms of advancement in MUSHes is not the sheet itself (though it does get awesome when you start getting pretty powerful 6-12months down the road) but instead being able to work your way up the ladder of individuals and getting involved in the more behind the scenes setup and information sharing that leads to the metaplot or player plot scenes.

@Tinuviel said in Difficulty of single-player computer games:

@Arkandel If I need to use external resources to "optimise" my character, your game is bad.

Or, you're bad at figuring out the optimal system without hand holding. Just because the game doesn't shove it in your face that 'this skill is ten times better than anything else so you have to get it' doesn't mean the game is bad, it means it probably has a lot of options and some of them are for fun and some of them are for making things easier/make you do more dmg etc.

Such as the Dark Souls games, don't think they show you what the 'optimal' systems are, would you call those bad games? I know lots of people that spend hours researching through outside sources for that 'best badass weapon/armor' combo but I don't hear any of them call the game bad because of that.

    • RE: Difficulty of single-player computer games

I usually just play normal. When I pick up single player games I tend to only get RPG ones (lately that's Witcher and Mass Effect series). I want to see the story and beauty of the game more than get a 'challenge' from the game really. I don't have a whole lot of spare time so being able to work through a game without having to repeat the same sections over and over and over because it's hard is just what I look for. It's also one of the reasons I bought dark souls one, played it for three hours, then immediately went back and returned it lol.

Tried to app in, waited around three days with no activity on my application so I just kinda forgot about it and walked away. Hopefully CG time improves? Maybe I was just unlucky? The CG system felt very... barebones which was both good and bad. Hope all goes well and folks enjoy themselves but don't think I'll be visiting again.

There are a handful of semi-active Star Wars games right now...I think? Fires of Hope and Dawn of Defiance are the names that come most readily to mind. I keep meaning to check them out but...motivation, you are a fickle fiend.

Dawn of Defiance is dying for the moment. There's a small clique that is somewhat active and a few randoms that pop up from time to time but the headwiz left and left the game to another wiz a -lot- of people disliked and distrusted so most ppl left it.

@Misadventure said in Suitable system for a gritty fantasy game:

Any definition, goals or traits to identify gritty?

For me, gritty usually entails a noticeable darker tint to the theme, mechanics that allow for dismemberment or other gruesome acts, etc. A list of systems I would consider 'gritty' are as follows:

Cyberpunk 20XX: The cyberpunk games by Michael Pondsmith tend to be dark and desperate in theme, and the 203X systems have the Friday Night Firefight combat systems which are closely modeled to the lethality of real world weaponry.

Warhammer 40k: Space, human experimentation/modification, crazy Gods and powers, desperate fights, massive wars fought for little but land and more resources for the various factions trying to spread across the stars.

World of Darkness: Old is a bit more 'gritty' than New, as most of the theme is based around post-apocalyptic or near apocalyptic settings where people are desperate and the monsters are staring to win against humanity. New World is a bit more focused on the 'close to real life' simulation but the darker tones of vampires and werewolves and other splats (Geist, focused entirely around death, Possessed, humans possessed by demons and slowly losing their souls for more power).

All the nudes of the character must be written...

      Halp? Wuh?

Nudes are a description system in MOOs that allow you to write a description for specific bodyparts that then combines with the ingame clothing system. So if you write your nudes for your face/ears/chest/abdomin/thighs/calves, and you wear clothing that covers face/chest/thighs/calves, people will see your written descriptions for the areas not covered by clothes and the clothing descriptions on the pieces they cover instead of your written descriptions. It also makes a decent 'camouflage' system since most games set up that way, if you have your face covered it also makes your 'name' different. MOOs are pretty code heavy

The forums are not indicative of the game as a whole. I liken them to WORA; the last vestige of a more negative part of the community that serves the purpose of allowing people to vent out their frustrations.

Sure, if they kept it to the boards that were specifically about ranting and raving and what not, I wouldn't care either, but when you see that any productive discussion on the boards is taken over by assholes and eventually soured by it, and the Staff does nothing to mitigate that hostility because they're too afraid of 'bad press' from these "veteran" players (Yes, I spoke to one of the Staff at the time about it, and that is what they told me when I asked why they didn't moderate the older player's comments).

Now I'm not trying to shit talk the game, if you stay away from the boards you'll probably have an alright time, especially if the game population is up. If any of those veteran players played they never did any greifing or anything in-game, just royal asshats on the forum boards.
