@cobaltasaurus also I do want to apologize if my comment "it might make you run for the hills" seemed catty! I totally misread your words and thought it said even players not new to mage were sent running for the hills. I was not trying to be catty but I can totally see how it would be when I dun fucked up reading

RE: What Do You Want In A New Game (3-options)?
@cobaltasaurus uhhh.. lets see I think its kind of similar to d20 saga so you might be able to start with one of those codebases and start tweaking? It does have some weiiiiird mechanics for a d20 game (stamina and resolve point systems mainly come to mind). But it isnt too much different from any d20 game in terms of how you play it so shouldnt be too much harser I dont think. Ofc I have never coded beyond some simple C++ scripts back in the day

RE: What Do You Want In A New Game (3-options)?
@cobaltasaurus Being a scifi nerd, I really like setting #3. Might be able to do it with starfinder, or maybe just d20 modern.

RE: Helpful Spellcasting Flowchart
@surreality Mostly what I find funny is once you actually quote my responses next to cobalt's it becomes pretty clear who was saying what.
Edited to remove shit I should just put in hogpit!

@ganymede great gif! And thats what I meant in hilarious but not every one finds melancholic content funny

RE: nWorld of Darkness 1E v 2E
@ganymede some people can work around things and others cannot. Thankfully GM fiat is a thing and so since I do like the idea of the game as being a party composition I can slightly rewrite themes or add canon that makes it more likely for characters from various splats to work together when I want to see it done that way.

(S)he posted a thing that was intended to be a handy reference, and you're jumping all over him (or her) because it's not as simple as you think it should be.
Alzie did, actually.
Yeah Alzie posted it, I just went all social warrior and defended its viability as a resource. I realize I have a problem. XD

RE: Helpful Spellcasting Flowchart
@cobaltasaurus I believe they were saying it in the context of how you presented yourself before I called you on it. Because you did not say what you quoted before you jumped on me saying I was being holier than thou.

RE: nWorld of Darkness 1E v 2E
@ganymede I fully agree that the system is clearly not designed for it. However I think it is far too cool to have a scooby gang of vampire changeling and mage or etc to stay away from it. I just hate when ppl bitch about the balance. To me it is just like any other party composition rpg. Find strengths and weakness, use strs, shore up weaknesses, work together.

RE: Earning stuff
@faraday I mostly agree here. I have very very very rarely seen good results out of leadership position PCs personally. As long as Staff are actually willing to use their leadership NPCs I loce it, but again personally, I have very very very rarely seen this case so as a player I just tend to not really get invovled in anything besides player ST'ed stuff

@ganymede can you explain why this is wrong plz?

RE: San Francisco: Paris of the West
@ganymede semi-related sidenote, do imagine how hilarious it would be for werewolf tho

RE: San Francisco: Paris of the West
@ganymede As a non-vampire player I thought core wod had forms of 'soxial combat' already? There must be some sort of tweak or new system that is added in VtR? I personally avoid VtR bc I dont like politic play so I am on board with you in hoping VtR political systems dont spread to the whole game.

Side note - it's FS3 not FS. Faraday's Simple Skill System.
Oops, my bad. Someone called it FS and I guess I went along with it.

For example - say that the Captain gets killed and somebody needs to be promoted to take their place. IC advancement would be based on some logical IC criteria - time in rank, political achievements, whatever. That's a very different metric than you'd find on a game that values OOC advancement more, which might make the decision more based on OOC factors of who could handle the role better or who had been around longer.
Let's put a twist on that though.
There's are some IC candidates for the position, none of them a clear forerunner but there's interest in the vacancy. Then a new person, OOC friend of the Captain's and known by staff creates a new character and voila, that PC is handed the keys to the Captaincy.
It's where the allegations of 'earning it' usually come in. Do you (as staff) want a non-ideal but already IC positioned person who has taken some steps in taking up a role, or someone who hasn't done anything for it yet but who you expect will be a better fit? And should it matter what 'you' want or should it come down to actions and decisions made in-game?
Unrelated to the thought experiment, those guys are dicks.
Related to the thought experiment, I rhink it on the role. If captin dude is an RP gateway, you have to look at it from both sides IC and OOC and make your decisions there. Non-rp gateway, just ler it be IC

@arkandel said in nWorld of Darkness 1E v 2E:
I like 2E mainly since it's better (not perfect, but a massive improvement) in terms of inter-sphere balance.
1E didn't even try in that regard; Werewolves are written as badasses but mechanically they're the golden retrievers of the WoD, and Sin-Eaters are written as quirky mediums but play like juggernauts.
They are not written like quirky mediums. They are written like half-dead juggernauts that are percieved as crazy by regular humans while they go about cleaning up the messes of the afterlife. Pdetty much everywhere you look in SE it makes reference to their tankiness and inability to die eaaily.

@d-bone That's a very poor comparison. Best is an exceptionally subjective term - with some objective bars.
There's a reason oWoD games are still out there when nWoD exists. We just like what we like, leave us be.This is the reason I asked for the conparison between 1e and 2e to stop in the ad thread. Cool great you prefer 2e. There is nothing wrong with that, go find a 2e game to play intead of tryijg to convert my 1e game.

RE: nWorld of Darkness 1E v 2E
@d-bone doesnt the gmc update to 1e make it a flat xp system without issue? Gmc is still considered a 1e mod or 1.5 isnt it?
Eta: trying to agree by showing the gmc example but cant remeber if it is still considered 1e

RE: nWorld of Darkness 1E v 2E
@d-bone you tried to say beats in 2e have better/faster xp progression and would be better. Paraphrased but I believe that was the jist. Tbh i dont think it matters. At the end of the day in a tabletop setting the gm is going to determine your xp gain (beats help force his hand and help both player and GM work together to create storylines to explore) but I dont think beats cause any drastic or notixeable difference in progression in a MU setiing
