@d-bone uhhh.. i mean, in a MU setting you tend to get xp very quickly. I am not sure how this applies.

@ganymede yeah I guess L5R mostly got complex a few years in.

RE: nWorld of Darkness 1E v 2E
@d-bone now its been awhile but isnt owod sheets very similar to nwod? I mean afaik there has been no huge change in sheet layout or design in the wod game lines.
Eta: I like things like flat xp (much easier math) but I am so engrained in 1e after a decade of playing it I find it very hard to try out 2e simple bc how different everyone says it is.

RE: Helpful Spellcasting Flowchart
@ganymede MtG is far from the most complex tcg to exist. [L5R] but I agree! However even looking at what you do have and trying to realize your full potential with what you have already bought can be quite the process even with low gnosis. My mage had gnosis 3 and I was reguarly finding new combos of things I could do that were convuluted and complex even for not being very strong. But it is also IC for a Mage to seek optimization, especially the older the Mage. Its part of what being a wizard is, knowing your ppwers, expanding your powers and finding the best ways and times to use those powers for your goals.

@surreality some of your stories remind me of an old friend of mine.

RE: Earning stuff
@surreality WH40K systems are kinda like that but half their fun is the brutality. They are more gearprogression focused than skill progression focused tho

@Jennkryst has been asking for years, and it'd be really nice to see her get a chance to give it a shot if that is on the table. It may work out, it may not, but dang near everything else has at least been tried at some point to find out one way or the other.
Including promethan which was the game I thought would -NEVER- see a MU

RE: Helpful Spellcasting Flowchart
@cobaltasaurus no, what it implies if they get scared by something vastly complex and immediately want to turn away, they might not enjoy mage. It is not the flowchart itself it is the complexity of it I am comparing with their ability to enjoy a complex game. I apologize if I have been a terrible job at making that apparent.

RE: Helpful Spellcasting Flowchart
@Cobaltasaurus So you saying it is a detriment and me saying it isnt, I am the one with the holier than thou complex but you are just being the nice person? That doesnt make sense to me. I think that if this flowchart affects someone so syrongly they hust go 'nah no thanks' i highly doubt they would enjoy the deeper late game aspects of mage. Which thays not an insult, it just is a thing. Some people dont like mage for that very reason. Some people love mage dor that reason. Yet you insisting that no this is only a detriment is just as holier than thou than I am apparently being, at least I am not being a sarcastic asshole to you.
Eta: and where did I ever say it was required material? I said it shows every single step you take in spellcasting and helps a lot more than just hunting thru the books but I never said it was required. I simply defended it as not being a hot pile of garbage that needs to be removed like you think it is.

RE: Helpful Spellcasting Flowchart
@cobaltasaurus i have yet to meet a single mage player that has ever commented that mage is a simple easy game thay requires no amount of hard work, thinking outside the box and exercises in long sessions of math. Because clearly what I s trying to say was my way is the only way. No what I was saying Mage by design is an extremely complicated game and if a flow chart makes people hesitate or step away from it entirely withiut even opening the book first then they probably would not have enjoyed the tedium of mid-late game Mage. Please take your sarcastic snark else where, like thw hogpit, where it belongs

RE: Helpful Spellcasting Flowchart
@cobaltasaurus the book does that too. Yoi know how long it took for me to sit down and say ok lets do it! Mage is a game that is going to take effort to play. If that silly picture turns them off, they might not have really enjoyed mage anyways

@cobaltasaurus maybe it sends gou running for the hills. For me this is a godsend.

I'd love to have that kind of time, but MUing is not a job and I'm fairly sure that if I stopped feeding him, my dog would eventually eat me.
Just to put some perspective. As a Player ST fairly reliably for two years straight, I keep up a househild, raised my daughter, and still found time to run 1-2 scenes per day for people, either private or on grid. Yeah I didnt have a job I was the stay at home parent but keeping a kid alive and happy and learnung and keeping the house up aint a vacation either. It all depends on your passion.

RE: Helpful Spellcasting Flowchart
@sparks this is not something that has ever been coded into a WoD mu* afaik. General a mage player (more often than not with help from other mage players and staff) figures out all the math then just uses a built in dice roller.
-
RE: Helpful Spellcasting Flowchart
@cobaltasaurus this is not over complicated at all. This is actually a brief and concise walkthru of creating spells. It looks complex but this is literally EVERY SINGLE STEP you need to take to cast a non-rote spell in 1e Mage. Sure there are steps you can skip once you get to know the system long enough but I still woukd rather have this flow chart than just the books
-
RE: Helpful Spellcasting Flowchart
@jennkryst except rotes are their own rules? A rote is basically a preprepaired spell ready to go at the drop of a hat.

RE: Earning stuff
@faraday allow us to further shorten your already shortned acronym XD. I actually thought it was FS3 as Faraday's System V3

RE: Gamifying Plots
@taika what magical land do you hail from and wherst must thou goest to find thee for thine scenes of plottage?

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@auspice ah well. Be nice to your shoulder. Dont overstress it with too much stretching you could over aggravate it. Icyhot, get yah some cold shizz, wait til the area is numb then warm it back up and massage

RE: Earning stuff
@arkandel MMOs hedge on addictive personalities and addictive personalities like simple easily repeatable tasks for shinies. Its eude but its true. There are a few MMOs that have tried to step away from conviential MMO mehcanics and they always either sink or barely stay afloat. Tbh the reason I dont MMO is the lack of my ability to become immersed in a world that is fetch quests and pure nonsense filler txt dialogue popups for quest interaction. Destiny is more what I would like in an MMO, but what I am really hoping is that CP2077 shows us what real interactive multiplayer story games looks like.
