Yeah I think "lack of desire to prioritize" is usually the reality of "don't have time". I "don't have time" to learn Spanish, but if I spent a few less minutes a day arguing on MSB I could probably learn a little bit. Priorities 🙂

But then //who will be here to argue at each other//????

Due to consent I find a lot of hero mus become a situation of posing over the top of others rather than with others.

That's a bad players problem that you're attributing to systems. Believe me, it happens in non-consent, sheeted places too.

The internet exists whether you are on a dedicated client or not. Even if I load a game up in the browser or in Potato, I spend the same amount of time between poses doing whatever I want to be doing on the internet to bide my time until my partner writes me something interesting.

    • RE: Is Giving Advice Worth It?

I kind of call bullshit on OP's talk of not wanting to name-and-shame. Or at least, OP, you didn't post in line with that philosophy. You gave way a lot of detail, enough that any person with half a brain knows exactly which character you are talking about. If someone's playing on the game, they know even more. I am not playing on the game, but I bet I could find it with just a little bit of poking about.

@auspice Why would this need to eliminate phone MU? Or using not a mouse?

Actually, with AngularJS, I can implement so much more in terms of touch-responsive UI. I could, hell, integrate a swipe left, swipe right, swipe up, swipe down motion to move your character through the grid. How fucking awesome would that be?

In regards to the idea of older characters having more power - this is indeed the case. But there is a hard level cap. And while there are side-upgrade options, the costs climb heavily after a certain point. It's not perfect, but not the worst as a system. It's something we watch.

@Mercutio said in Star Wars: Dawn of Defiance:

Transparency with staff is harder to define or even comment on, as I am uncertain in what way that word is being used in this instance.

Ok, but like, how many of those older characters who have hit level cap but have a shitton of side-upgrade options are in the hands of staff? That's what I'm talking about looking at, and what I am talking about re: transparency.

I mean, I am glad you guys know your factions (spheres. potatoes. whatever you want to call them, really) but knowing who is getting all the cool stuff and getting to do the cool things is important, too. I'm not here to tell you how to run your game, but if all staff have really old characters with a lot of influence because of the things that they have, you can bet it's going to make your game less appealing to people.

The other big thing to consider: inclusivity. I've known a lot of people over the years who MU* because they are blind and it's a game they can play. How many of these shiny new things could they utilize with the same ease? Screen readers could pick them up, but not as fluidly as a MU* client's screen.

Actually, inclusivity would be improved, likely.

      See:
      https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/Accessibility/ARIA

Because web developers have had to think about these things a /lot more/ than when MU*'s were first designed.

@Mercutio Cool, cool. And may I say! I think you did very well representing your game with these posts. I'm certainly not here to tell you how to run it (just judge it, since that is what MSB is for), but it does seem that you have a firm hand on the pulse of where the power balances lie in your game. It speaks p highly for you as a Staffer and the game as a whole.

    • RE: Reasons why you quit a game...

I quit my first ever MUSH after like, my third scene. It was one of the Kushiel games, and I created a character that I realize now is cliche on MU*s but as a baby roleplayer, I did not realize then was cliche. After my third scene, someone talked down at me about my character being cliche OOCly, joined in by the other person in the scene.

I never logged back in. I am surprised I even tried another MUSH after that, to be honest, but I did and I found good people on an xmen game that took me in and helped me learn good habits.

    • Forum Bug?

When I am on my mobile phone and if I stay too long on one thread that has a post from an ignored user, it expands the post and shows it, though it's all still greyed out and styled in the way of the 'This message is hidden because its author is in your ignored list.'

Doesn't happen on the PC. I can't inspect to see what is happening on my mobile.

Speaking of, why do we even see if someone we ignore posts? i don't give a shit, man.

    • RE: MU* Activity Survey 2018 - DRAFT

You also ask about +requests but never ask about applications. The length of time it takes to apply and how hard/easy it was perceived to be does matter for activity on the game.

ETA: Nevermind the whole email application or email required for application debate.

Some players might say something like that in character.

This is ICC for OOC ignorance. Right there. Why do you keep denying that you can get punished for OOC ignorance in one sentence and then reinforcing that it can happen in the next sentence?

Just accept that it's part of your game. And there are people that don't want to play based on that simple fact.

But also don't get hitched the night before a duel. (Or do. Idk)

Do, if it is gonna make a great story. That was one of the best storylines I've played, and I have played a lot of really great, tense, dramatic, silly, fun storylines. Made only a little frustrating that we couldn't see it to its ultimate conclusion.

ETA: Also, even in the L&L type games, I couldn't quite ever make it to the marriage part. Could never drag someone down the aisle. I did get close to a marriage once, in that my guy bought an engagement ring before dying. That was fun to inflict on people. @Rainsodden

    • RE: Armageddon MUD

@thugheaven It is a consequence. It makes your character, who has lived in this world their whole life, seem like a stupid idiot who thinks they can read even though they /should/ know better. It cements it in, because there's no given way to retcon and walk things back, because that other person isn't breaking character to tell you.

I'm not saying this is bad or good. But it is a thing.

ETA: And I am not misinterpreting. I can go back and quote your other posts for you where you said punishments /can/ happen, if you want.

    • RE: Forgiveness in Mushing

I have forgiven and forgotten, even. I am willing to forget the past to keep a friend. I value my friends a lot, tbh, more than anything else. So when I come to the point where I can't forgive or forget, then that means something. I don't want to agree that not being able to forgive and forget certain things just makes us bad, because for the most part, I /want/ to. Sometimes, I can't.
