RE: criticism not allowed in ad threads is only enforcing a false positive, prove me wrong
@apos said in criticism not allowed in ad threads is only enforcing a false positive, prove me wrong:
I think if they are avoiding Spirit Lake because they mistakenly thought I was involved when I'm not says more about them than it does about me.
This was not at all being inferred.
What you did say here is that if several people are in agreement about someone, it's about them and not the someone. Which is opposite of what you suggested about SL staff. That is why I brought it up.
It's just not a handy algorithm, and can easily become self serving.
This was my only concern.

RE: criticism not allowed in ad threads is only enforcing a false positive, prove me wrong
@apos I can confirm there are several people, myself included, who no longer find it productive to even mention criticisms about games you and Hellfrog are involved in. Those players either attempt to avoid your attention or opt not to play games you have significant say in.
Is that something you should consider?
I think so, despite that I acknowledge that creators are best at creating, and you can't please everyone, and that the drive to work and create can also power a kind of certainty that is easily seen as, and can be, arrogance and ego service.
But whatever.

RE: Constructing a FAQ (and what ground to cover)
I like FAQs to have sections that address am area of questions, either in a linear list or as a tag in a wiki.
How do I connect to this game? (telnet, commonly used applications, less common applications)
What are advanced client features commonly used for? (Spawns, formatting, triggers etc)
Opening topics on roleplay online (posing, what is RP, ways that stories start in terms of player and staff creation and control, there is no winning)
Routine topics of roleplay (how to form groups, how the game system basics work, code used by players such as xp spends or requesting plot elements, PVE and PVP play styles)
Complex topics (cheating, complaints, advice on how to help others succeed and have fun)
Social contract on behavior
Game design notes (what is the purpose goals and limits of theme, code minigames, guidelines for character vs player action, why are policies the way they are in particular)
That sort of thing, so people have an idea where they want to look, and where similar unknown topics may be at.

I guess MSB can't have ads then.
Sucks to be MSB.

RE: RL things I love
@paris Someone share me that recipe then! I need anything to get my spouse to eat fruits and vegetables that have fiber to slow down the sugars.
Also, it was tasty. >.> <.<

RE: RL things I love
@paris We went to a Spanish tapas place that had a sort of brown sugar baked spaghetti squash thing that was fantastic.
I haven't gotten even close to it at home, so sweet potatoes it is.

RE: criticism not allowed in ad threads is only enforcing a false positive, prove me wrong
So why not have an owner locked ad posting, with a staff created link to a questions and answers thread, and a commentary thread?

RE: criticism not allowed in ad threads is only enforcing a false positive, prove me wrong
@paris Everything falls down the page if you only go by whats new. Hopefully someone who is looking for a game will have the patience and skill to find the advertisement section and read with an eye towards what is "recent" enough to likely be valid still.
I would like to see ads updated if new areas of play open, or areas are closed (spheres, splats, new coded areas like commerces etc), when there is a new cycle of activity coming, such as a reset on non persistent games like Greatest Generation and that horror game i can't remember the name of, opening sin limited areas, or major changes in leadership of staff, or closure.
Having the ad link to a keen wiki where the ad can be more easily updated etc would also be cool, hint hint Arkandel and wiki divinities.

RE: criticism not allowed in ad threads is only enforcing a false positive, prove me wrong
You would have to provide an argument as two why an ad with no endorsements acts as a false positive.
As is, an ad is a piece of information. It is a service. Any commentary that buries that information reduces the value of that service.
Any commentary contained on an ad space can be erased by removing the thread, which the creator is allowed to do, and replacing it with a new thread of the exact same ad.
Placing a link to a commentary thread created by another (preferably forum staff) on the ad allows for the function of the ad AND the security and moderation of the commentary.
Commentary is held to very low standards, and will not be moderated, and as such can be just as much disinformation as informative. Given this forums tendency for hyperbole, shout downs, a few vocal groups, and very realistically differing interpretations and expectations, it is not worth policing commentary. Just give it is own space.

RE: Ideal Scene Length?
Maybe length should be measured by the number of exchanges, whether that's a literal pose/emit count, or something more like phases of conversation eg initial pleasantries and setup.
It might even be a scene contents/hour type thing, where it's rushed or too much/too slow at either extreme.

RE: A theme-less, CGen-less game
I think if there are resources already available, then a linked MU* is fine.
Its just a little more effort than basic setup to make sure the place is relatively secure.

RE: What drew you to MU*?
I forgot I have a friend with some spoken artifacts of output dyslexia, and I pointed him at MU*. It was ... odd to see that his roleplaying voices are completely different in text, not just the artifacts, but all the spoken habits are gone.
He ended up being turned off by the snobbery of werewolf staff and never returned.
