People who put up with me. It's a broad category and sounds needlessly self-effacing, but it's honest. Most people in my situation would be, at best, living in a shelter and surviving off of disability. A great many would be homeless.

I am employed by people who understand my illness and genuinely care about me, and though I am embarrassed to be living with my parents as I approach 30, I am deeply, deeply grateful.

The suicide attempt rate for trans people is terrifying. It is entirely possible I would not be alive but for my family and friends. That is a very sombering thought to carry with you.

It sort of low-key blows my mind that there are adults who are just... happy. Like, I know nobody is happy all the time. That's the nature of life. But the idea of having, I don't know, a week or more when you just feel okay?

I literally don't remember a single example of that since December of 2010. I've had streaks of a few days that stick in memory. But a week? Weeks? Months of nothing but appropriate moods and responses to things?

This is incredibly validating but also incredibly confusing. I was great in elementary and middle school. It was in high school and college that I started having problems. And that was before transition.

Someone randomly recommended Arx to me after I quit an absolute disaster of a Neverwinter Nights RP server. But generally speaking, I'd done MUDs before (mostly Achaea), as well as forum RP. And Arx seems a bit more MUDdy than most MUSHes, thanks to the absurd coding powers who work there, so it was an easy transition.

(28 years old, for reference. So not really young by any standard, but younger than you decrepit antediluvians)

Am I angry? No. The show has been rolling downhill too long for me to be angry at this point. I was angry last season. I'm just sad that two showrunners with more ambition than ability rushed the ending to a story that I cared about. It's not the destination that matters. It's how you get there. I feel like I just read a six part book series where the sixth book got skipped.

Because that's exactly what just happened.

Now that we've gotten that particular nauseating phrase out of the way, I've experienced a sense of alienation at times, but I think that's just people having long histories together and certain games being harder to break into than others. But even on the game that I've found easiest to get into, I've had to bulldoze my way into scenes more than once (read: I still do this on what's basically a weekly basis). I personally haven't experienced any sort of anti-queer sentiment, but I've only played on three games (Arx, Spirit Lake, Gray Harbor), and they have very progressive player bases (shoutout to @Kanye-Qwest for making Arx as amazing as it is in this regard).

I think a pretty persuasive argument can be made that in a game like Changeling there may be some merit to actually roleplaying explicit intimacy. Yes, it can be handwaved, but so could a lot of RP. "They talk all day and become friends" is not as compelling as actual RP. Similarly (assuming the player and staff are down for it, because this gets into heavy squick territory), a FTB might not be as compelling as a scene that an antagonist can draw on in the future.
