    • RE: How are you coping with COVID (and other 2020 fun)?

      @saosmash

Our reporting is required yearly, but it's only 12.5 hours and it doesn't have to have anything to do with what we practice, which is why I spent a day three weeks ago listening to 4 hours of how to set up business entities in such a way as to reduce tax liability.

And thank you for your kind words. It was a combination of the work and the workplace. Once I'm better, I'll return to the fight in some manner or other. My character comes by her ornery stubbornness honestly.

@sahin your mental health is worth way more than any specific college route you have planned out. You're doing a responsible and adult thing.

5 dollar tip minimum for me on DD, and 10 at the least if it's a long drive. I have plus so the fees get slashed (agoraphobia is expensive) but, like... these folks are doing shit for me I can't do. I can afford to tip them.

    • RE: Real life versus online behaviors

@kestrel I don't know how much I agree with that. What we choose to do with how we feel--the public restraint we choose to exercise--is part of who we are. And it's not just a lack of consequences that influences our actions online; empathy is much harder to come by when you can't see or hear a person. And that's not an intentional issue--just think how many fights start on this forum because people misunderstood something written they'd never have misunderstood in a face-to-face environment.

It doesn't excuse consciously acting like a jerk, but I think it explains why people sometimes do. It's not that they don't care that people are upset; it's that they don't see it.

    • RE: Who are you?
      • Last year I developed really, really severe agoraphobia that prevents me from driving more than five minutes from my house without having the mother of all panic attacks. Boo.
      • I'm slowly getting better. Yay.
      • I somehow managed to get sworn in as a lawyer and spend part of my days working for a nonprofit and feeling like Mr. Magoo. Yay?
      • I play a rabidly conservative religious character because I like stretching my limits and doing things that feel alien. Yay?
      • Because IRL I'm a rabidly leftist religious person. Your mileage may vary.
      • Dogs and cats are equally amazing. YAY.
      • I play flute okay. I sing with enthusiasm and without skill. I am learning how to draw and am very poor at it.
      • Fat is tastier than sweet. But both combined is best. Ice cream is sublime.
      • I don't have tattoos or piercings, and at the present time the only plans I have for any are a traditional Jerusalem cross on my arm if I ever make a pilgrimage there.
      • I frequently get agitated that I don't have the time to learn every language.
      • I'm theoretically learning Mandarin but am really on an indefinite hiatus.

And most importantly I've never let inconsequential details like my ignorance or basic facts get in the way of my opinions, of which there are many.

    • RE: What is your turning point?

The only things I've found that make me less inclined to seek out RP with someone are

      1. When they act controlling OOC ("don't pose like that," "be more/less active," "don't play with that person"). Absolute turnoff. Obviously pointers and corrections about theme are fine, but if you're unhappy I'm not saying anything in a council of nobles and the king? I'm playing a blacksmith's daughter. She's not going to be offering her opinion unasked. I'll talk later.

      2. when they act clannish and uninterested in RP. This is less a "I don't like you" and more a "this doesn't seem to be working" thing. Sometimes you get the vibe people would rather RP with someone else. No harm, no foul--but if it happens a lot I'll generally stop looking to RP with that person.

This is a good thread. Though now I'm going to be on the lookout for all these behaviors in my playing. Except short poses. I'm going to keep doing short poses. You people are crazy.

I get where you're coming from, but I think the reason my grief at Quelliot ending was substantially muted compared to many other people is because I think that "A Life in the Day" is one of the most pure and wholesome episodes in TV, to say nothing of the series, and They got a full life together. A beautiful, full life. After that, it doesn't strike me as horrible that one of them ended.

Truth be told, I'm less upset by Q's death and more upset that he went with Alice.

      But I think your reaction is totally understandable. And I teared up BIG TIME at the campfire scene. The peach. Oh no the peach. ;__;

    • RE: Poll: Do I enjoy this hobby more than I don't?

Absolutely. It's been a big boost to my mood this past year and a half. The only thing I struggle with is knowing that I need to improve how I RP and also knowing that I have unrealistic fears of people disliking me--so I worry about what is actual dislike/bad RP on my part vs. what is my imagination.

I think the solution is just to get people you like and trust to give you advice, though!

This might just be good old-fashioned sexist raised-in-the-South notions of chivalry that I haven't managed to shake (it absolutely is) but Jorah's last stand was by far my favorite part of the episode and of the season. The noble knight protecting his lady until the very end without even a moment's hesitation. It was a moment of just pure old stereotypical trope goodness, and I appreciated the hell out of it as an end for the exile. Knight until the very end.

      Godspeed, Ser Jorah.

@Ghost Thank you! Things that are normal but out of place are my go-to for creepy. Nothing like being in the woods and realizing no birds are chirping.

But! That sounds pretty cool as a Thing, whether it is a Dark Men Thing or just a Thing, and no one on grid knows a lot about them. There's a lot from the Veil that can pose threats - it doesn't have to be the Dark Men.

That's useful to know! Maybe it will be a Creature Of The [Insert Time Period Here].

I love everything about the Giovanni but their actual story.

I think, in the end, Vampire is not the setting for me. I'd love to play a character who is not evil and who is actively seeking redemption, but the existence of paths other than humanity has always felt more like flavor than an actual option.

Honestly, that casting decision is not nearly as bad as DC's total inability to produce a coherent universe, whether it be consistent actors or consistent plots.
