    • RE: The Dark Side of online Role-Playing

Honestly the worst part about all of this is how it's a response to someone who literally was talking about how they were groomed and preyed on as a child and working to protect their kids from experiencing the same thing.

Telling your kids they should never do or say anything you might disapprove of because you might snoop on them and catch them is just terrible.

People say you’re trolling because you are making up things that weren’t said to rail about and accuse a poster of child abuse.

Frankly, considering the age I started MU*ing at, I consider myself very lucky that I didn't end up victim to anything.

Are any of you parents? I mean, letting your kid do whatever they want online to "learn about sex on their own terms" can be extremely harmful.

Let's compare the "Safe" method used by Buttercup to the "Correct" method actually recommended by experts.

It's "safe" if you pressure your child into never looking for anything sexual and purposefully avoiding anything that might make them question what their parents tell them. However, it's also unhealthy.

You are drawing extensive assumptions that this is what happens in Buttercup's home.

@Carex You are building a straw man to attack. The argument you are having did not actually exist in the post you are responding to.

Here's the thing with that, and this will be an unpopular stance -- accusations are not evidence.

While I agree that this is true, we're talking about a job rather than a criminal prosecution.

I mean...in a criminal prosecution, witness testimony IS evidence.

@reversed I saw both of those among the preferences somewhere but now I’m on my phone in a car and so cannot be more specific. YOU’RE WELCOME. I’m useless. I’m pretty sure I saw them.

I still think that this sort of code tool has the potential to enhance existing policies and game culture that is already trying to make a game safe for people to voice issues, because I think it's one of many ways for staff to project how seriously they take the issue, and making code for something explicitly informs players that they can utilize something. I would still like to see a game or two try it out. That's pretty much my opinion.

I'm only on BeipMU temporarily while my Macbook is out for repairs, but it's pretty keen. Kudos.

My laptop is OUT for REPAIRS. (Swollen battery needs replacing.) I am lucky enough to have a desktop PC I can use in the meantime, but 90% of my computer usage is on my Macbook. MINOR GRUMP.

@Jeshin Yeah, I have Discord Nitro and can change my # to whatever. But I don't think you can change your username and ID # to the exact same as someone else already has? Like it can't be an exact match or else it's not unique. I could be wrong.

If people come in sick, I'm usually quicker to blame the company. Do they give adequate sick time? Does the culture encourage or discourage people taking time when appropriate? These are usually the big factors for people being trained to power through stuff like this.

      tl;dr blame capitalism

@Goblin On the other hand, I left a bad fit job without something new lined up and spent almost two years hunting for the right full time position. I am SUPER glad your situation worked out, but it can easily turn out terribly. People should definitely try hard to line something up before putting in notice.

People with good intentions will respond decently to "That's not cool" and not do it again. It's pretty simple.
