      I'm pretty close with my family but there were some for sure tensions this year. Something it's very wrong with my mother, but none of us can figure out what it is and counseling is also not cutting it. In return my older sister was critical as hell back at her.

      I'm not looking forward to the upcoming announcement of my younger sister's engagement and wedding preparations. (He hasn't proposed yet, but he has the ring.) I think it might just be a huge divider. Not only because it will be a huge stress on mom, but also because he isn't Mormon so there is a whole extra cultural thing.

    • RE: Engaging the Whole Scene

      I think it's imperative upon players to realize when a scene SIMPLY is not for us and be willing to step away also then not lambaste ourselves for that.

      I know I just dropped out of a scene on Arx because of a few things that ran contrary to how I work as a player. Paragraph long poses just lose me. I always miss a detail and then I feel stupid for missing it. I always do SOMETHING wrong when someone hands me paragraphs of text to react to. Then others were also posing paragraphs back and I checked out so quickly it wasn't even funny. There was also a very strict pose-order (aka, everyone posed between ST poses.) THIS IN AND OF ITSELF IS OKAY, but I get bored if I can't respond in a timely fashion to the other people around me. This is my own character defect and nothing that reflects upon the ST in the scene.

      So... it's okay to step out when you realize it isn't your pot of tea.

      For GMs I think it's important to keep track of the pacing of your scene. Like, is it taking people 10-15 minutes to pose? Is there someone who is isn't posing regularly, or if they're usually a prolific poser, are they only doing 1-2 line nothing poses? Then they can ask.

    • RE: RL Sads

      In two days (well, 1.5 now) Christmas break starts for my students. For 24/26 of them I'm excited for them to be home, to play, and just to be KIDS.

      For the last two though, my heart aches. One of them just has the WORST home life I won't go into now. She asked me if she could skip the Christmas party until I told her that it was just going to be a classroom affair and that no parents were coming*, then perked up and wanted to participate. The other has his first Christmas with his parents divorced and he's just a MESS emotionally from it. I just want to keep them close and protect them from the feelings that the break will bring on.

      • Before people wonder why parents aren't invited- I have a group of kiddos this year with MAJOR sensory issues. They get upset easily when it gets too loud and chaotic which often leads to anger and often violence. They cannot control it. Every Holiday party I've ever involved parents in has gotten LOUD. By keeping it a small and calm affair I'm protecting all of my students. My parents (mostly) understand and are respectful of it.

      Difference between teacher and lawyer - lawyers are less likely to catch lice from their clients.

      I was just handed two pieces of rusted metal with bits of shoe-leather on each side. "Hold these for me, but not forever, I want them back."

      I don't think I even want to know.

      It ain't break yet and I ain't gonna let up on you. I will go redneck parent like I was raised if you don't START FINISHING WORK.

      @GreenFlashlight

      That is a huge leap. CPS is there when there are legitimate reports of abuse.

      Nothing beyond some seriously convoluted jumps of logic from individuals here has indicated there is any abuse going on. In fact the exact opposite is in place where a parent is attempting to keep their child from needless harm.

      @Macha

      I think there is a huge difference between the kid knowing it is happening and not also. Then following it with real authentic conversations.

      Parents can also use this to be abusive, you are right. It doesn't have to be though.

      I hit that submit for moderation button so fast on that idiot's post. This is disgusting.

      My own ick stories are nothing to compare with most, but I dearly wish that my parents had known how to monitor my use and had known how to have these types of conversations with me. I would have been saved some serious heartache. I applaud @buttercup 's parenting.

      finger steeples I just made the last second decision to throw out my lesson plans and go in a completley different direction.

      The kids will be back in three minutes so LETS SEE HOW IT GOES.

      (I think it'll be fiinnneee. They've designed and now are building compound machines from simple machines to complete a task. The only argument will be "BUT I WANT TO PUT THAT PIECE IN.")

      I've been throwing up for most of the day. I'm fairly sure that it was something I ate last night as the stomach-ick started at the same time as I finished eating.

      There's no way I'm going to write sub plans and cancel my after school club for that. So I'm here. Objectively sick.
