I wonder, a little, if some of the shallowness comes from the fact that his books are squeaky clean when it comes to sex.

THINGS
I just fished Cytonic and I have so many feelings and I don't know how to separate them out.
It is like being attacked by your best friend who just betrayed you but it was for your own good so you are proud of them in a distant way but you also hurt like hell for right now.

RE: Critters!
It helps when they love everyone. Because then I know they will be in good hands.
Plus the shelter we work with is utterly fanatical about who they adopt to. (Sometimes too much. ) A single slightly red flag will get someone denied.

My foster babies go back to the shelter today and I am so sad.

RE: The Work Thread
This is super true in cities, though less in rural areas. I will forever be amazed my husband saw no reason to learn to drive before he went to college and realized he couldn't do anything without a car there. Whereas we sat on the exact day of my 14.5 when it was legal for me to get my learners permit, and I took my real test only days after I turned 16. My parents weren't about to deal with the nonsense of driving me the 20+ minutes it took to go anywhere, plus I could now be delegated the responsibility part time of seeing my two younger sisters were transported to where they needed to be.

I say good on them for having the courage to tell someone to go kick rocks. At the same time, it also fits in my dystopian capitalistic hellscape we're living in where, instead of raising wages for employees companies already have, they're leaning into trying to hire 14 and 15 year olds for 'work experience'. and trying to lure people in their 60s back to work with suggestions that "You can still be important and valued!"
I think we're safe from this happening. I don't have anything but anecdotal data from working in K-12, but more parents are suggesting their child not work (especially in low and up income levels) so they can focus on schooling instead, and supporting their <18 children to quit if their work is messing with their schooling.
For low income families that need the income it is not so much the idea that work proves their worth as it is their families NEED their work.

RE: The Work Thread
My husband is unhappy at his job and is on the 4th round of interviews for a totally new position. It is a government job with all the perks attached (most especially a Colorado wage vs the Arizona wage he is right now earning). It would be the first step forward he has tried to make in his career in 5 years after bottoming out from a toxic work environment.
I'm praying so hard.

RE: The Desired Experience
I gave up trying to follow the circular sandwich conversation on page 9, but I feel the urge to say this:
I fucking want a sandwich right now but can't have one because husband is cooking right now. I won't enjoy his cooking as much because my brain wants a sandwich.
SO THANKS FOR RUINING DINNER EVERYONE.

RE: Critters!
We had a lovely amazing couple come into the shelter looking to adopt a senior cat. We have one special baby we knew we had to show then called Licorice. She lives in our "feral" (really, just shy cats who will assert their boundaries with people if they aren't respected) because she is so old they want to be able to keep a closer eye on her then she would if she was able to run anywhere in the shelter.
The couple were amazing in the room and Licorice knew they were there for her. She spent the whole time cuddling one or the other of them.
It seemed perfect.
But when we checked their address we found their apartment's pet policy says they can only have 2 cats and they have three, so we had to deny them.
Totally heartbroken for Licorice. It seemed perfect.

Calling Independent/small shops...
Husband and I have made a commitment to buy from small and/or independent places this Christmas as much as possible.
So: Do you make and sell stuff on an online shop? Do you have a family member or a friend who does? Do you have a cool shop you love to buy from?
Drop your links here. I'm not asking for specific styles or things because I don't want to limit the options promoted. Maybe someone else will find something they love.
Thanks!

RE: The Desired Experience
Only if people beyond that bit want that kind of plot. And, if those people, in return are willing to engage the bit in question and not force the plot to be all them. (Literally. I had a GM throw poses specifically so my character could get involved and someone else went "I HAVE THE THING NEEDED" and so despite the best efforts of said GM my character ended up being absolutely unnecessary.)
I feel like this is, "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink."

Pumpkin sausage soup
Husband made this tonight. Review:
For some reason I expected it to be thicker, but that was my only complaint. It had solid flavor, and warmed the soul.

RE: The Work Thread
I tend to do the 'accept but don't send a response' so that I show up on the invite as accepted, and it's all pretty and bold on my calendar, but no one gets an email.
I told my principal I learned this thing today and she laughed at me.
BUT FROM NOW ON THIS IS HOW ALL INVITES WILL BE MADE GDI.
