    • RE: Map-making tools that let you measure distance?

I did a little review, curious for myself... There's really nothing better than Roll20, and certainly nothing that doesn't require login.

My recommendation is https://sketchboard.me or https://docs.google.com/drawings ... The former has a basic grid that can be used to measure distance. The latter allows you to put in tables and stuff. You can also pre-draw your straight lines, then have people move them to measure the range.

@arkandel I actually was working on this, first converting ThenoCode to Rhost, then converting from CofD to Vampire V5. I got the first part done, and before the second came, I jumped on Chontio. Thusly, my game is no more!

But I do have Thenocode converted to Rhost, if that is any more appealing to anyone than Thenocode on Mux.

    • Welcome to Chontio! A Star Wars MUSH

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away …

It is the time of the Galactic Empire. The arm of Emperor Palpatine extends far and wide. It is a time of peace, where trade flourishes and order is kept by the harsh justice. Many worlds have grown rich, others suffer under the yolk of the Galactic Empire.

Two years ago, the Empire reached a small planet in the Outer Rim, past Kessel Sector. Chontio is inhospitable and dangerous, but the recent technological breakthrough in using the naturally-occurring Mazeri Crystal has promised wealth beyond anyone's dreams...

The people of Chontio struggle with the Empire, with the conditions of a brutal world, with the original inhabitants of the planet striking against the colonizers of Chontio. How will the Tageeri Confederation make it through these harsh times? How will you?

Chontio MUSH takes place in the capital city of the Tageeri Confederation, Davotay, along with its sister city, Gorana. Characters will be citizens of the Tageeri Confederation, and work to aid their home city, their home planet, and their home government... in whatever way makes sense for that individual.

Hello everyone! Chontio is finally in open beta. We are accepting new characters! You can go ahead and create via logging in or on the web! If you're logging in, the standard create character password should work, otherwise type tour to log in as a guest.

If you're interested, a great place to start reading is our getting started page. You can also look at our roster characters.

I want to also give a giant THANK YOU to @farfalla (my other staffer + the reason I'm sane) and @faraday (who wrote AresMUSH and held my hand through this whole process), without whom I couldn't have gotten this game open in 2 months. Also big shout out to @Brunocerous who desc'd almost our whole dang grid and @Seraphim73 who has been supporting this project since day 1.

    • RE: Coming Soon: Chontio, a Star Wars Stand Alone MUSH

      Another update!

We remain on-track for our December 1 opening. It'll be rough, I'm sure, but it'll be there. The grid is almost all the way desc'd. My to-do list is very short. The only major issues code-side have been resolved by me (look at me, tinkering with Ares code! It's just so dang easy!) or with updated from @faraday (who has been super duper awesome).

All that's really left is for me to finish a few theme write ups (University of Chontio, The Force), complete the character creation guide, then stare at the Gear and Weapons system and sigh and shake my head and frown and sigh and shake my head.

If anyone was holding out to see how The Force would be used here on Chontio, we're going to end up sticking pretty close to the Edge of the Empire book. Force powers are kinda neat, but for every force power there's likely a career talent that can do it better. Which is to say: The Force is low power and is more a story element than a game-changer.

Since this is on a single planet, will there not be space travel? Or much space travel? I know one of the Edge of the Empire classes is a smuggler, and you often think about smugglers with ships. Will most flight take place overland in things like speeders and cloud cars?

There will be space travel, but it's uses will be limited to a few destinations and plots/PRPs. Travel will mostly be in land-based vehicles (and some airspeeders and cloud cars, but they're scary for reasons). I've not fully fleshed out how we'll do off planet, but if you have a ship, you'll definitely need to come up with a reason why you're choosing to stay on the toxic hell-rock that is Chontio instead of just... leaving.

    • RE: Coming Soon: Chontio, a Star Wars Stand Alone MUSH

By popular demand, and thanks to the work of Xango@Chontio, we are now using Edge of the Empire instead of Age of Rebellion.

Age of Rebellion focuses on the battle between the Rebellion and the Empire, where you play on the side of the Rebels. Edge of the Empire is more about surviving on... the edge of the Empire. Considering Chontio is about surviving on the edge of the Empire, it's a natural fit. The reason we didn't have this from the get go is because AoR is what was coded and I frankly didn't have the time and energy to put in EotE. One of my alpha players did it, so there it is!

AoR has careers that are military focused, like Spy, Soldier, Ace. EotE has things like Colonist, Explorer, Smuggler. I am quite pleased.

To be clear, we are only using EotE and no supplements. My goal is and has been to keep this game a one-book game, to ease the burden of players that would otherwise have to get many books.

Edit: I am putting in more species. One of the joys of Star Wars is all the species that you see, so I definitely want that in my game. These species, though, are just starting stats. Information about their culture and the like can be found from the various Star Wars sites, like Wookieepedia.

Just a quick update... In some of the previous drafts the game had included some references to the native species of Chontio in terms that were fairly racisty, and the ties between the Ushawbay and Native Americans was pretty direct. That's been changed.

The native species of Chontio, the Ushawbay, are still known to attack settlers. There's still conflict, and still questions of how to handle this violence, but the terms that are used are less weird.

Alpha is open! I've got a few players poking at the game, running through cgen, etc.

If anyone wants to join, please just DM me. Atm, I don't think there's any RPing, but I am hopeful to get a little bit of that going next week.

@thenomain Oh for sure, but something on Chrome is weird, and ... I wish I could explain it more better. But Chrome clings to some images in that are called by js? I know this because my Chontio website sometimes will not update an image after I change it. Very sad.

But yes, holding shift (or ctrl, I think?) and clicking refresh/reload is a good idea.

Google's cache is like that one dragon from the one movie. Hording all the things.

If you open from another web browser, you'll probably see your new icon. If you clear your cache for this site, ditto.

I was new. Potato has a "Text Editor" or some shit. I didn't realize the editor was tied to the "window" you opened it in. I was in the middle of one romantic encounter ... and using a proxy login for a second romantic encounter.

iirc it was Jimi Hendrix lyrics used in the romancing of Scene A that got input into the text editor of Scene B.

It wasn't TS, but if was thoughtful, just-for-you, special words... that got sent to the wrong person.

If either of you are here, I apologize. Again and forever.

Are the natives of Chontio sentient beings and will they be playable?

They are much to the tune of Tusken Raiders. Sentient and mostly hostile. They are not playable.
