      @ganymede

      I was basing 'read all the posts' on the REPEATED times that @Arkandel has directly said that if we don't report something, it's not necessarily going to be acted on, because you won't necessarily see it, because you guys don't read all the posts. I am not digging through the forums for quotes, but you guys aren't even towing the same line here. This is the type of thing I mean when I mention consistency. Great. If your way of doing things is the way that it's going to be, then my objection doesn't apply. That's not what's right now happening.

      I'm not asking for constant, prompt vigilance. I'm asking for consistency and clarity. Dialing it up to eleven here is a little ridiculous.

      Also, feedback was asked for.

      I was in the grocery store today and Sweet Caroline start playing on the Muzak system. while moving through the aisles I heard at least three people singing along. the two older women were somewhat expected but amusing. the college dude bro really getting into it to the horror of his companion was the highlight though.

      Just reading this makes me happy. This story is a RL thing I love.

      I think basing moderation primarily on reports is a really bad idea, and if that's the way it's going to be, I do not think there is any particular action that y'all can take as a result that's going to actually avoid making it more toxic than it is right now. Deleting posts is just going to make it worse.

      ETA: My suggestion? Read the threads. All of them. All of you. Act based on clear criteria. Don't expect your users to report problems, or to be unbiased in that reporting. If you don't want to play mod in the hog pit, get rid of it. Otherwise, read those threads too. Be moderators, if you're going to be moderators. Quit halfassing it. Do, or do not.

      I stuck this in in an edit, so I'll just post it again:

      Current practice makes me concerned that someone can post something very inflammatory/inappropriate and be just fine, but responses to that initial thing get swatted, leaving the original nastiness to stand. If this comes in the form of actually deleting these posts, what we have is somebody saying something ugly and no rebuttals being present for it. That's a recipe for disaster.

      I like the plan in theory, my only concern is that it's going to end up unevenly applied. Consistency has been a problem so far, and it's going to make things yet more toxic if particular people get come down on and others are allowed to skate by with no consequence.

      I mean, isn't what we are doing now prone to inconsistency as well? The only difference seems to be that at the moment we get to fence-sit a bit since if things get bad we can just shove the whole thing under the carpet.

      Yep, it is. And it has been, which is why I'm worried that escalating the responses will not help with the actual problem.

This becomes more of a big deal when it's not move-the-thread and is instead delete-posts and ban users.

      You can find second hand newer phones, unlocked and usable.

      Be REALLY careful about doing this. Really really careful. It is super easy to get completely screwed when purchasing second hand phones because of a lot of the new security features.

      You asked me to name one. I named one. It's also not more MUD than MUSH.

      ETA: It fits the criteria, and is evidence that your premise is incorrect. It's not an exception, it's not 'just because X' or 'just because Y' -- the leadup in this case is what's being discussed, and the leadup was a positive thing for the game in the end. Yes, there are other factors. There are always other factors. Asking for input / ideas / suggestions and/or discussing potential ideas is just not a damaging thing. These discussions are healthy.

      PLENTY of games have had a 1 year+ lead time where people knew about them, were off and on excited about them, and so on...and went on to be very successful.

      Can you name any, besides <insert generic multisphere WoD>?

      @tempest

      I disagree with pretty much everything said here save maybe that it does bring up concerns as to how serious the game lead is about current projects if they're already starting the brainwork on the next one. Excitement and such doesn't get used up, though, and excitement for the idea of and the excitement for something that is actually happening come out of two different pools. Nevermind that people look for collaboration and input and discussion and things. PLENTY of games have had a 1 year+ lead time where people knew about them, were off and on excited about them, and so on...and went on to be very successful.

      I think this sort of thread is great and encourage more of them.

      ETA: History just doesn't bear this out, and the vocal criticism of the contemplation of ideas seems really weird to me. Like, what, kill it when it's an idea so fewer games get made? How is that a good idea?

      Yeah, I definitely don't see a whole lot of bluetooth usage scenarios -- I have a small handful of people that use ear pieces and a couple that connect to their car and that's just it. We are not a high tech office.

      Pixels have a great camera and shit for quality control. If you get a good one you're golden, if you get a lemon, you're screwed -- I am the tech support for our enterprise account at work, and I had to send a good third of our first round of pixels back for warranty replacement, and then half of the refurbished ones back for another replacement.

      The Samsung S9 is hands down the best phone on the market right now, provided you're not an iPhone user. The plus is worth the extra money; it's faster, and the bigger screen is great (I do use mine as an ereader, though I just have the 8+). We have zero problems with these at work, except for....

      If you are clumsy, get an Otterbox if you DO go with either the S8 or the S9, because of the aforementioned glass back. They are hands down the most breakable cellphone we have ever had. They will crack in your pocket if you don't have a case and you bend wrong, and a drop on a corner (because glass) will shatter the whole thing.

      If you are super super clumsy, look at the Kyocera DuraForce pro. They are waterproof, shatterproof, and drop proof. The battery life is great, they don't come with much bloatware, and they are the workhorse of the phones right now. They just work. For a year. At which point they very rapidly deteriorate. If you plan on keeping a phone longer than it takes to get an upgrade, wait until the next workhorse, whatever that ends up being.

      @hierodule

      Right click on the .exe, properties. Compatibility tab. Check boxes: Override high DPI scaling behavior. Scaling performed by: System.

      That is what fixed that sort of behavior for me. If that doesn't work, play around with the other options in that tab. It's def a compatibility/scaling issue.

      Just make the game you want to make. Do what interests you. Don't base your decision on what anyone here says, how much interest is HERE, etc. -- this is a relatively small slice of the population. I think it's way more important to appeal to yourself than it is to appeal to us, and as @Kay says, enthusiasm of staff is a key factor in success.

      I find myself a little put off by sexual interests and such in ooc formats. It feels..weirdly player intimate, to me. When I do TS, to be frank, it's not really about gratification for ME. It's about the characters. I'm fine with a quick "this is the level of language I'm comfortable with, this is a hard FTB point/event for me", etc, but like a browsable list of wants and less-wants is decidedly not my jam.

      Yeah, I would hard pass on any non-sex game that had detailed code/policy support for sex stuff.

    • RE: Good TV

      @sg It's hard for me to watch for that reason. I was right on the edge of giving up on it because the characters just COULD NOT get a break (I thought it was going to be another one of those shows where the people who created it mistook depth for 'only bad things happen and every win is really a loss') when it gave just enough to keep me. I can't binge it for similar reasons to Jessica Jones, but I really do love it. That actor is incredible, he really is.

      I love Cobra Kai, sooooo much, but I would not recommend it for a kid. 13ish would be as young as I'd see it, depending on maturity levels. Not that it would really screw with a younger kid exactly so much as like, the themes it deals with and so on aren't really target appropriate.
