      Idle thought. My problem with this sort of mechanic, specifically on WoD games, is it winds up just being a tool for the equivalent of crappy bar RP/dating crap.

      It'd generally be unwise to talk about the demon you fought the other night via text message, which means most messages wind up being--

      +text Jane=Hey what's up?
      Jane's brain - "I really have better shit to do than exchange some bullshit meaningless string of texts with you."

      IMO, if you're going to do this, include some sort of MAGIC TECH GURU NPC that secures everybody's phones, so they can actually talk about shit and not worry about 'omg the masquerade' or whatever.

      All of the 'anime' type games have had the in-game log auto-posted to the wiki thing for years now. I have absolutely no idea how it works.

      You and @tragedyjones are literally the scumbag used car sales men of MUing.

      You get off on the attention of "making the cool new thing!" then realize it takes actual effort to maintain once you're past that stage and disappear to repeat the process 6 months later.

      And with the fragile egos of 12 year old boys to boot.

      and can't gain more experience until the cap rises, which might feel unfair when they're active, playing and running PRPs, while not getting the same rewards as other people. For that situation--a compromise!

      Apparently being either on equal footing or more powerful than every other character in the game isn't enough of a reward for MUers?

      With the effects listed, these seem pretty clearly like they're just going to end up being 'combat boosters' (including things such as use of Dominate, not just brawl rolls) which feels kind of lame and seems to defeat the whole purpose of the XP cap. Characters at the XP cap will still be getting much stronger in terms of pure mechanics on account of having more of these chips. The re-roll in particular will likely be incredibly powerful in combat if you can just use it after failing a roll.

      Meanwhile, on WoD MUs, most people can't bothered to type +bbread once a week.

      You guys are really ignoring the glaring issue with all this 'weekly newsletter' and 'let everybody investigate all the things' commentary.

      Who is going to be taking the time out to do this? You're lucky if a game has 1 or 2 people willing to run stuff regularly. Nevermind handle all this stuff after running those scenes.

      If you have 10 players, you can probably manage it. 20, 30, 40? You're not going to (reliably) have the time for the jobs and the writing, and you're going to get tired of doing it even if you do.

      I fully believe some of you could do it for a couple months, sure. Then you'd shut your game down or turn it over to other people to staff.

      I mean if we're talking dreamland fantasies, I'm sure a MU with STs who'd run daily adventures for random individual/small group players they don't know would be super succesful and popular.

      Oh, I didn't even see that.

      But, tbh, considering that characters in JRPGs and Anime frequently are in the 12-16 range, I can't really fault anybody for putting that in policy.

      Good luck to you guys! Updates on when new themes get added would be awesome (Wild Arms 2 or other Star Oceans). The dungeon thing seems like a pretty awesome idea. Even if it's not "perfect" mechanically or w/e, it should give a pretty solid framework/motivation for people to go 'do stuff'.

      I tend to have a recurring problem with these sorts of games, personally. Yes, yes, I'm sure I'm a horrible person but I don't like to play OCs on games with FCs and everybody I'd like to play is usually taken/not in setting.

      This has reminded me I have a willing-to-sacrifice-babies level urge to play Agrias somewhere (preferably with a slightly more cohesive theme/setting than somewhere like Multiverse Crisis or w/e it's called). If anybody knows somewhere that'd be possible, please give me this information. 😮

    • RE: Which canon property/setting would be good for a MU* ?

      Dystopia was pretty awesome. I feel like it opened sooner that it should have though. And then nothing ever really had time to 'get rolling' before it died. A bit more 'hand-fed plot' at the start would've potentially nudged things along until players/factions could sustain ongoing plot themselves.

      The only real plot that popped up was Dildo Fest, afaik.

      And used/uses Fate which is unliked around these parts for some reason.

      Personally, I just prefer a little more 'uniformity' if I'm actually going to go to the trouble of using a game system.

      A Fate 'sheet' basically boils down to what stuff did staff let you get away with putting on your sheet and how creatively can you "work" the system.

      At that point, I'd rather just play Supernaturals who have character trait writeups like it was a comicbook game.

      @Bobotron

      So, with your House being both your 'lineage' as well as your 'political organization' of sorts, I was curious about something.

      Would 'switching teams' ever be allowed, thematically?

      Say I make an Octavius because I like the theme for my character's history and why she was chosen to be a vampire, blah blach whatever.

      Six months into playing the character, maybe she doesn't agree with the political decisions/direction of the House at all, or whatever.

      Is there any way in which that character could go more fully align herself to some other house? Or are you expected to be loyal to your House, flat out the end, and doing something like that would just get you cast out as a pariah or something since you can't be trusted?

      @Bobotron

      How 'tightly knit' are you aiming for the Houses to be in theme?

      Like, will there be some 'House Aurelia' mansion/whatever in the city where the 'core' of the House lives, sort of thing? Will it be frowned on to come into conflict with other house members?

      Or will it be more like the Clans in nWoD where everybody's generally off doing their own thing? There's usually some level of say 'familial ties' amongst Gangrel or Nossies, and yeah, you have a Clan Priscus usually, but...I've never really gotten a terribly strong sense of 'unity' from any of the Vampire Clans in WoD.

      @Bobotron

      That's actually pretty interesting.

      Probably one of the most reasonable ways to handle "older vampires" actually being a little stronger than young ones 'at CG'.

      It still costs them something (advantage points), and lets people do their elder concept without feeling gimped, and doesn't /really/ give them free XP or anything.

      So, I was reading the other thread again.

      @Bobotron said in [Interest Check] Original vampire-based supernatural MU*:

      Vampire society and hierarchy is also divided up into three distinct ranks:

      • Patrician: The name patrician is a bit of a hold over from the times of Rome, but it ultimately boils down to the same meaning: the fathers of the Blood Drinkers, those of great merit, age, power, or all three. Blood drinkers who have comported themselves in such a way as to impress the city hierarchy and/or their House’s hierarchy, can be named a patrician. Typically, a vampire cannot quality for patrician status until they have attained 250 years in the Blood, or have undergone some extraordinary service for the Republic. Patricians gain the Innate Status Confirmed, Established and Privileged.
      • Plebeian: The common folk of the Houses of the Blood, these make up the largest majority of vampires. While they may hold offices, they are ones who have not distinguished themselves in some manner. Plebeians have no Innate Status other than Acknowledged as a valid member of society and a member of a House.
      • Peregrini: Those who either a)have disgraced themselves and have been punished by being cast out from the main line of society, but have not been named Pariah by the Consul or the Senate; or b) are vampires but are not able to prove/claim lineage to one of the Nine Houses. Peregrini are afforded some loose rights but not many, and are forced to live on the fringes. However, those who are peregrini can recover their status or become recognized, but it is a long and arduous road.
      • Pariah: A term used to represent those who have been cast out and afforded no protections, with an accompanying execution orders or other summary justice. Being named a Pariah is a death sentence for a vampire.

      How are you planning to handle this at character creation? Are people going to pick what they want to be? Will everyone start as a specific one? If you wanted to be a Patrician will that cost 'advantage' points or something?

      250 years feels like a lot, so that's a pretty huge gap between "real member" and "common folk" until the 'pleb' does something noteworthy to earn the status.

      Powers are something I'd suspect you can outsource, or at least get some ideas from people and then rework/fit the ideas into the rules you have in mind.

      Which ones don't you have done yet, and what are the 'ideas' behind those?

      I imagine this sort of game would definitely have an interested playerbase. Looking forward to hearing about your progress! There might be some culture shock for folks of it not just being another WoD vamp game, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are plenty of people interested in playing with a new twist on vamps that still maintains 'some' of the familiar vibes.
