I have no idea what Nightvale is. Should I?

RE: Wizz's Playlist
Beatrix is awesome.
Reminds me that I briefly played Agrias on that Kingdom Hearts MU* (Edit : Which is apparently closed now.), was actually kind of fun.
Any FF-themed games around still? Preferably ones that aren't limping along with the same 3 players that've been around for 5 years and is basically dead.

RE: Theatre of Shadows MUSH - OWoD MUSH Seeks Developers/Staff
I know absolutely eff-all about oWoD, but good luck getting things up and running!

RE: Upvote vs Downvote Question
Yeah, I just noticed today that apparently 'hovering' will show names of who upvoted a post, but not who downvoted it. I second that boo.
Edit : I now have another question. Please excuse me while I alternate upvoting/downvoting raptor's post for a few seconds. Do you get more than one notification?

RE: New forum version
I'm with @Derp. Not that it really matters, either way, I imagine we'll all get used to the new format quickly enough.
Rabblerabble change! And all that.

RE: Ghoulage on Kingsmouth
Being killed off-screen for "plot" is just too reminiscent of Firan. And nobody liked it or defended it when it happened there.

RE: Ghoulage on Kingsmouth
It's almost as if years of MUSHing have proven that most staffers are shitty.

you would have to be saying I am lying to stand by your point that 100% of the time it is motivated by anger or anything other than story and setting needs.
If I wasn't clear, that is exactly what I'm saying.
If you are BFFs with Joe, and he up and disappears off the face of the planet, I'm completely confident you aren't going to randomly decide to kill off his character because 'omg plot'.

You are carrying a bitter history with you there. It's not always true. Period.
We're gonna have to agree to disagree. IMO - Unless a player is ducking out to avoid ICA=ICC, you have no grounds to kill off somebody just because they aren't playing anymore and it seems pretty shitty to me to do so.

I would like to think that if you have the social skills to have a life that you would be nice enough to drop your staff a line telling them that your PC has gone back to Bumfuck, Iowa for a little bit. Because that's all you need to do.
You don't have to tell staff what you're doing ICly if you're playing day-to-day, why does an absence require an IC explanation to prevent staff from killing your bit? Every MUSH ever seems to have done just fine with a freezer.
ETA : No way is randomly killing Player Characters off-screen with vague shit like "killed by something?" not done out of OOC spite for one reason or another, even if it is just 'fuck this asshole for disappearing'. Use NPCs for your fucking "plot".

RE: Ghoulage on Kingsmouth
There's so much shit you have to handwave for a MUSH to make sense, that I don't think "wow, Joe hasn't been around for 6 weeks AND IS SUDDENLY BACK" is anywhere near gamebreaking and doesn't warrant that sort of policy. You can go a year of actively playing a game pretty easily without meeting half the other characters anyways, most people aren't going to notice.
-
RE: Ghoulage on Kingsmouth
Most of the dead characters seem to have notes of "killed or captured by TFV". Given the vagueness, I'm assuming those are the people who dared to commit the horrible crime of idling out and/or freezing. My character specifically just has "killed by hunters" and my character's ghoul got a "killed by something?" (lol). Some people just have "Suicided?"
Seems less about inspiring plot and more telling people to fuck off. But that's just my take. If someone perma-freezes to make another character, sure kill them. I don't think idling out warrants that, though.

Ah. Any character that isn't given an IC reason for not being around and having left the city becomes fodder for use in plotlines etc. There have been numerous idled out characters that got killed off in plottage.
Sounds like a bit of an asinine policy (and not one I've ever heard of being used anywhere else, with the exception of people who disappear amidst IC conflict), and I'm assuming it's designed to let staff take shots at people they don't like.

Unless you got banned, I'm sure you could come play.
I got pseudo "uninvited" for bitching about stuff on WORA early last year and my character was killed off screen according to the wiki.

RE: Ghoulage on Kingsmouth
Where's @Shavalyoth? I should ask if she'll un-kill my character and let me come play.

That's horseshit. I've seen the same bickering on BSG games.
Look, lots of people want to be Mary Sues or the bestest or some shit. WoD games are hardly an exception.
I will admit that I'm having a boatload of fun on a WoD game where politics must be played, but it's a game where there's shit to do with your political status. So, I may be biased, but that game shows me that it can be done right. Or, at least, not so badly that I want to pull my hair out.
I will amend, less specifically WoD and more 'any game with a political structure'. If it's open to players it will spawn drama inevitably. Sometimes small, sure, but eventually not so small. I just used WoD since it's pretty much all I play atm, and damn near all there IS to play.

the frantic hard campaigning for seats at the table in every sphere (must... be... Spring Queen!!) before the game was even a couple of weeks old
The longer I play WoD MU*s, the happier I am that there are games where the political positions either don't exist, or just aren't open to PCs. Such a huge source of drama.
