@Tinuviel Usually, even with a cold, I'd likely go in. But this head cold, the stuffy brain feeling, the consistent headache. Those are what's sidelining me. If it was just stuffed up nose and achy body pains, I'd just deal. But considering I go through a lot of patient information and my job is more or less troublshooting samples so they can be processed correctly, I d rather not be mentally diminished with being unable to concentrate and/or focus.(yes, I am justifying my not going into work to strangers on the internet because the guilt is real, yo).

      Also, what's a ManFlu.

Normally, when you get a cold, you can more or less function with a a combination of water, DayQuil, and pain killers, eventually shoving yourself at work.

And then you have a cold that completely sidelines you, you barely sleep because you can't breathe well and whatever medications you take don't really help a whole lot. So all you can do is be miserable.

Then feel guilty about calling into work two days in a row because you know you'd be utterly useless if you went in and you'd risk getting others sick.

So you're not going to win no matter what.

Things I've watched on Netflix recently.

Into the Dark - nonsensical shit revolving around a murder by what may or may not of been an incestuous relationship. Avoid.

Polar - Good, but apparently Mads Mikkelsen likes to show off his ass a lot.

The Umbrella Academy - Nothing like the Dark Horse comics at all, but honestly, I think I like this televised version better. It actually makes some amount of sense.

If this client allows me to make completely separate windows for spawns that I can move around on my screen like Duck Client allows me to do, I'll be sold.

But that wasn't what I was trying to do? The topic was being talked about, I had just finished playing it this weekend and while I was thinking about it, gave my opinions on it. There was no intention to shit on something others liked or that they were having 'wrongfun' because they enjoy it.

I apologize if someone had the impression that I was trying to rain on someone's parade. I wasn't. I was just saying what I thought since it was being talked about.

@Arkandel I'm not telling anyone to not play it, though? I was just detailing my impressions from playing the game for about 30 hours or so and I felt like I was able to give a somewhat coherent quick review of what I thought.

It doesn't suck, it's just....average. And for how much I love Bioware and the games they've made in the past, this is probably the weakest entry they've made since, I guess, ever? Because I'm one of those lunatics that defends Andromeda for not being as bad as people think it is.

I went in hoping to be proven wrong, because goddamn did I want to be proven wrong. The game has redeemable factors, there's just a number of others that do it better. Warframe notably and for the most part, Destiny 2(for it's own idiotic faults).

      My feelings on Anthem.

      Things I liked:
      Combat is fun.
      Flight is pretty cool.

      Things I didn't like:
      Storyline is absolute dogshit.
Missions are repetitious. Way more so than Destiny 2.
The scenery, while very pretty, doesn't offer a lot of variety.
      Load screens like whoa.
Characters are one dimension and bland.
The script is cringey is fuck.

The main campaign is gated behind four very lengthy and inane grind fests that should've been optional side quests as opposed to being something you're forced to do. And in the end, all you do after is more or less flip a switch and maybe get two or three items that are not worth the hours investment I put in just to get to that point. It was soul-wrenching.

My end thoughts is, if it wasn't a Bioware game, it'd be what I'd expect from EA. But it's Bioware and thus, my expectations, while already low to begin with, were more or less confirmed.

It's disappointingly average. When I boil it down, there's not a lot going for it, or to write home about.

    • RE: GFM For Ewok

@TiredEwok Here's my bit of advice for your parts list that might allow you to save some money.

Firstly, I wouldn't suggest the RTX. Despite what Nvidia says, ray-tracing absolutely blows on anything that's not an RTX 2080 ti, and even then, it's not that fantastic. You're basically paying for something that you may never use, is only on a handful of games, and won't even be utilized well on the card you do buy.

You might save more money by just opting for a GTX 1070 ti. You can check the benchmarks if you want, but personally, I think you might get more out of it for less.

If you're looking for a decent AMD motherboard, I'd suggest a MSI B350 Tomahawk. It's dropped in price recently and does well for what you need it to do. Not sure how it'd do streaming though. The biggest drawback is that it only has four SATA ports, which I would've preferred 6.

The ATX mid tower Thermaltake Core V31 may not be the prettiest case ever, but it's about 30 bucks cheaper than the one you got listed and it works exactly for what you need it for. It's the case I use, and I always recommend it to people who may not be able to toss out cash for some monolithic(but super pretty)Corsair case.

I thought about making some commentary on the amount of RAM you want to buy, but this is also for streaming, so while I can't find much use for my 2x8 GB, that might not be the case for someone who streams needing 2x16.

I hope you're able to get back into streaming soon with whatever rig and setup you choose, but I thought to give some advice after doing a number of builds and looking into doing another one soon.

    • RE: Critters!

@Selira So when it comes to new cats, I'm going to join you on that. Recently, I've been doing some thinking on my current cat, who's getting up there in years and basically is entering the twilight of his life. I'm aware he doesn't have many more years with me, and I'd like him as happy as he can be. But I also work a lot, and we don't get nearly as much together as I'd like. At the same time, I hate the idea of him being alone so much. And while I know that cats are fine being solitary creatures, he's always been the friendly sort who seemed to like having other cats around. So I decided it was time to get another cat.

Hence, enter Prospero(or as a friend calls him, Prospurro). Partly because the name sounds good, and partly because The Tempest is my favorite of Shakespear plays.

      alt text

So, Prospero's story is one of woe once I heard it. Thusly, he was raised in a good home with an elderly man, Prospero's only desires was to lay in this older gentleman's lap and be pet. Sadly, his owner passed away in November and there was no to care for Prospero. So he went to a shelter where he languished. Until he was rescued by a local city project designed to work with local pet stores and animal shelters to find homes for. Prospero was in a shelter for three months until I came along and decided, after speaking with project members, I learned he had the traits I was looking for. He was older(five years), low energy, not territorial, and got along well with other cats. It was everything I wanted in a cat that could get along with older cat who likely doesn't have the energy these days to keep up with another cat younger, never mind a kitten. And besides, he was cheap. People don't like adopting adult cats, they want a kitten. Me? I had zero issue at all.

So I brought him home, making sure to keep him separate from my other cat. So he's been living in the bathroom for the last day, and initially, he made behind the toilet his home. I was able to put a blanket down to make him more comfortable.

      alt text

And that was more or less how last night went. I hadn't seen him eat, or drink, or even use the litter box, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was afraid he migh pee all over the bathroom. Thankfully that's not the case. Because when I woke up, he had used it and looked like he had eaten, though a little bit. However, he has become more friendly and more affectionate and has switched from behind the toilet to make top of the washer/dryer I have in the bathroom his new home. Suppose it's now is new perch.

      alt text

Either way, it's gone on pretty well. The meetings with my other cat have gone well. No hissing or swiping, just a lot of unsure smelling. I have hopes they'll be decent friends, or that's my goal. Prospero has a lot of getting used to before he's comfortable, I think. It's all very new to him still, and I can understand him being stressed about it. Still. he's adorable and I love his fluffy tail.

    • RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.

I was excited to get my bonus this year, because I had made plans for it. I looked in my company's ADP, the program we use to look at our timeclocks and paystubs and I saw that my bonus was going to be(disclaimer: I have no issue with people seeing what I make) about $1700. Which to me, is a lot of goddamn money and I could seriously use it.

And then I look at the net pay, which is going to be around $1k. I wasn't aware that your bonuses are taxed to fucking hell and back. Way worse than my usual paychecks. I get that it's basically an extra paycheck and I should really be happy about it, nevermind getting anything at all, and only someone in a first world country would really complain about getting what basically amounts to free money but...goddamn.

Barely getting the chance to RP, partly due to lack of drive, and partly due to time constraints. You have problems setting up a time to meet and get a scene in, and when you eventually do get that chance to RP with this new person who seems really interesting and may actually light a fire under your ass to try and get involved more.

That scene was worth the waiting.

      A couple of thoughts.

The KH series, as an overall whole is a steaming pile of garbage in the story department. Everything else it does; controls, looks, interface, skills, and abilities is just plain gold. Now, if only they had a decent, or at the very least understandable story to go along with it. But instead they just follow the cryptically written notes that Nomura sends to the writing team from his isolation chamber. So I won't be playing KH3, but I will admire it for good it looks and plays.

As far as Anthem goes, I'd be willing to try the game out when the open beta starts, but I'm keeping my expectations for it, very, very low.
