If w open things up to war games it does add a few Soldier Kings and Britannia are two that work well for groups and if you want to go really old School War and Peace if you can find it though it is from the early 80s.
Sadly most war games focus on two player rather then group play.

RE: Board Games
I would add Arkham Horror and Shadows of Camelot to that list.

RE: Dust to Dust (Formerly the nWoD grenade thread)
As i player i definitely appreciate that, and for the record I agree with a lot of the things you are doing. Like the step away from he standard sphere structure and the focus on a cooperative environment states clearly up front, and the fact that is looks like it will have a strong meta plot.

RE: Dust to Dust (Formerly the nWoD grenade thread)
I love that list, granted I dislike a few of the items on it, and #1 means it will not be a game for me, but I wish every game did a thing like this, putting the general policies and vision in one place in bullet points that can be digested quickly. I am sure there will be more in depth files to get into the details but something like this would help players quickly decide if it was a game they were looking for, and then also pointed to later when conflict over one of the issue arises and say see there it is clear as day.

RE: Paradox Buys White Wolf, All Included.
Not being a video game person I am decidedly on the fence on this. ...I also fear means I will have to wait even longer for changeling 20th anniversary.
My main hope now is that it comes out before it would be more apply named Changeling 25th anniversary. -
RE: Good TV
I only lasted about half way through the first season. I returned for the start of the second and was mildly enjoying it. In my opinion the first ep of Supergirl was better then any of gotham have been.
And I don't think they are building towards this ever being a recognizable Batman's gotham. Not give a half spoiler they have already knocked off a major villain in the show. And not in a mysterious way we got the short of the body on the autopsy table. -
RE: Good TV
I really enjoined the pilot, I will definitely be tuning in for more. My biggest complaint is that it iairs opposite Gotham so I now will no longer be getting to watch Gotham but that goes into the whole executives being dicks thing, since it is a standard tv tactic to schedule similar shows against each other.
And yes I am one of the few old people that still primarily watches tv on tv. -
RE: Eldritch - A World of Darkness MUX
I want to congratulate Eldritch staff for being proactive. Too often in our hobby such behaviors get way to much play before being shut down. I may not play Eldritch and have no intention of ever playing there but this gets a big thumbs up from me.
The sad fact is once someone has show a repeated pattern of behavior it is unlikely to change.
I am all for second chances but it is the third and fourth chances that tend to drive folks crazy. -
RE: Comparing and Contrasting the Clans of VTR2
I was going to saw the same thing tragedy just did.
It was the same in OWoD too, full and New moons way outnumbered everything else. They are easy to play and can be played to the fullest with out relying on outside stuff.
Be a Ith, my personal favorite auspice, and you need someone either staff or a PrP runner to want to have spirit fu happening. as I have said before humans tend to take the path of least resistance so most plots tend to be on the punchy side of things, which is where Rahu shine, and second best thing in a fight is be too sneaky to be spotted and hurt so there we have the Irraka, The other three auspices require more work so will almost always be a lesser number. Lets not forget these are designed for table tops. In a table top you have a dedicated story teller who can balance things. -
RE: Comparing and Contrasting the Clans of VTR2
@Arkandel
I have seen PCs saying no to being punched in the face, or at least to combat being initiated.
Heck I have done it to a limited extent, I was in a scene with someone else it had a nice flow to it and two folks came in and wanted to start random violence mainly cause they admitted they were bored, and wanted to spice things up. While not outright refusing I simply stated I wanted a staffer to run the combat since I didn't know these two from Adam, they lefts to find in there words, "Someone cool, who wants to have fun."
In the case of Dominate if it is someone I know I am cool with it, anyone I didn't know I would make the same request, Hey it is your power and you are free to use it but lets wait to let staff handle the process. -
RE: Hosting on a phone
I would be tempted to play on a game hosted on a phone just to say I was playing on a game hosted on a phone.

What kinds of things do you guys think are generally unacceptable, but believe you know how it could be done? I know most of you guys around here love WoD, so how about Promethean? Do you think that could work in a MU?
Will let other people handle the time travel this one is easy with two house rules, one change disquiet so it only effects mortals not everyone, this way Promies can now interact regularly with the majority of pcs and twoo either get rid of the wasteland effect or make it avoidable somehow, this removes the very real reason everyone would have to drive the Promies off after a month or two.
That would still leave some balance issues but well this is WoD we are talking about her balance is pretty non-existent already.
Ta da Prometheans as playable. I think the main reason they are not seen on the big games is one a lack a large scale we want to play them among the player base even though I would like to play one sometime. -
RE: Exalted MUSH: Shifting Sands
@Coin
I was meant the other side being the staffer who said it. Even if it is not being trumpeted here I assume he/she/it thinks they are in the right. And it is not uncommon for people to show up here or on wora in the past with a complaint about staffer x someone and get eviscerated for that complaint being unwarranted. -
RE: Exalted MUSH: Shifting Sands
I have to side with @NotaNumber on this. If the background was unacceptable as is just say this is unacceptable please rewrite it. I don't care if it is your hundredth bg you have has to read that day, if you hate reading them then don't require them or if you don't have that power just refuse to do apps.
The "I would dock xp for this but I can't." Thing is pure passive aggression and would get me to drop a place immediately as well.
Now I think backgrounds are mostly a failed tool in general but that is another point entirely. -
RE: Kinds of Mu*s Wanted
Any aberrant game would have to have an approval process like DM in the old days. Stat yourself and hit the grid cause anything more would be horrible given the lethality of that system.

RE: Evennia - a Python-Based Mu* Server
@Volund
First off I would not call anything in our hobby mainstream.And while I am sure from a coder's point of view there is a big difference between the various shades of MUSH and MUX types from a player's they are pretty much the same. the biggest differences I note are remembering where I have to put a + in front of a channel alias and the differences in mail system commands, which my be why I thought they were soft coded earlier. The rest all pretty much works the same.
I would refer to a code base as niche if it only pretty much had existing games in one genre, MUCK for example is highly associated with one particular genre at least in the minds of a lot of people. Where the MUD family and the MUSH family both have games in many genres so I tend to see them as more general interest code bases.

For what I gather Evennia makes big things easy to do but at the cost of the small fun bits. All I can say is best of luck but I probably won't be adapting to Evennia games until all the old mush style games are gone.
You are entitled to your opinion and I don't expect anyone to abandon what they love. But I must admit I don't quite understand this particular argument. It suggests that somehow all Evennia games will always be the same, as if it was fixed to a particular game style or feature set ...
.
GriatchOk right now as it stands Evennia eliminates things that I find to be pluses, so any game would be at a disadvantage of a place that had those.
Evennia will go one of two ways either the first few games that use it will take off and it will become the new thing in wade use, or the first few games won't attract a big audience and it will become a niche code base like other MU-code replacements from over the years.
In the case of the first instance I have a good 5 years I figure minimum before the old guard of MUSH-code games die out before I need to worry about adapting., in the case of the second I have no need to worry about it.
I don't say this to be an asshole but I am not an early adapter on things in general I did not get a HD tv til by old TV died last year.
As for Evennia games being the same some of that will be built into it. MUCKs and MOOs I am sure can great games but neither looks or behaves like a MUSH/MUX from a player perspective. I have looked at each in the best but never ended up playing either because they were too different when what I already knew existed as an option.
