This is a "how to" article, but, its always good to start by telling someone to leave you alone and/or ask that whatever behavior is making you want to ignore them to be adjusted... Just saying!

Which is why violence solves all problems, and if it does not? You are not using enough of it. But, where I started, such things had a really simple solution. If you die, you die.
Yeah, I remember the old school WoD games with the OOC Masq thing going on, where if you found out that someone was Cam (I usually played Sabbat), they were dead as fuck ASAP. I kind of miss those days.
Yeah it can be a blast as long as everyone treats it as a game, there isn't to much of a painful way to get back into playing, ect.
I miss it.

@HelloRaptor Right, see that's more to my point... If you are gonna have a case of the ass about someone looking at something you put out there, maybe don't put it out there.

It was a bit weird. I apped onto a totally open PK game (oWoD) and like, no one really actually killed each other.
That part is ok to me, its more the understanding that if you do something to a PC (ICA=ICC), he/she could respond with an action that could include trying to PK you.
Like if your PC had his henchmen come in and rob my PC in the middle of the night, kill his puppy and then laugh about it as they drive off in my badass oldschool mustang... Wait, that's John Wick... But you get what I'm saying

RE: RL peeves! >< @$!#
@Luna Just like Dov Davidoff says...
I saw a girl outside -- had the biggest fake titties I've ever seen in my life. They were this big, with a half top with stuff written on the shirt, and I couldn't help but look at it. She got mad at me. She goes, 'What are you looking at?' I was like, 'Hey, if I stuff a balloon in my pants and paint a bulls eye on it, you might take a second freakin' peek, weirdo.'

RE: The State of the Chronicles of Darkness
I've been reading "The Fallen World Chronicle Anthology" (fiction based on 2e Mage) and its pretty cool. I'm excited for the release. Hopefully we'll get something stood up to play mage in relatively short order.
One thing I've noticed about "people" who don't understand or know mage is they seem to focus on the high end / high XP side of things. They cry about game breaking powers and such while ignoring the other splats and their ability to "break games" at high xp as well. But low level mage is a blast to play. You can playing that unexperienced mage that is no longer a novice and out doing his thing, itching to call his mentor for an assist but knowing the answer will be something along the lines of, "I know you'll be able to figure it out".
I think if more people gave it a chance, and if more STs were a little more creative people would come to love the sphere.

@Lithium said in Something similar to WoD, but not quite:
I retract any suggestion of Dark Spires. Magdalen (head staffer) in her infinite wisdom just decided to remove a wizard's ability to advance magically. At all.
Can't get more potion slots. Can't get new enchanted items. Can't improve your enchanted items. Can't learn the two elements you can't start with, at all.
Ever.
It's the SILLIEST knee jerk I've seen in a long long time.
Her reasoning? There are PC's who are more powerful than some of the NPC's /AS THE NPC'S WERE WRITTEN IN THE SOURCE MATERIAL/.
Instead of limiting the problem children, or capping advancement at a reasonable level, now Wizards are just fucked. Any magic user is just fucked.
If someone tells me how to spoiler this I will edit and fix:

Refinement Sun May 01 MagdalenFor a while now, Dark Spires has been struggling with an increasing imbalance of power levels on the grid. In part, this is due to the fact that the site has been up for over 2 years and we have PCs that have been an active part of our community for that entire time. As we do not intend to reset our environment, create alternate locations for higher power levels, nor do we intend to place an XP cap on our players, Staff has had to come up with a way to keep our balance functional.
A huge cause of the imbalance on grid has been determined to be the Refinement power. As it stands, we have people walking the grid that can, in one shot, kill the Merlin, easily cripple the Gatekeeper, and even take down the Blackstaff. Obviously, this isn't a viable situation.
Staff has been discussing a solution to the balance problem for over a month now and the only resolution to this issue that we can see is to remove the Refinement power entirely. We know this will have massive repercussions for our Wizards and other magic users but it is an essential move to maintain the balance of power and PCs on grid.
Going forward, we will be opening jobs for each person to reformat their characters. This will require adjusting any rotes/foci/enchanted items as necessary.
In addition, due to the lack of cohesion between the delineated PC templates, we will no longer be allowing the Powers From Magic option.
Magdalen
TL;DR
Dark Spires is now the world of Scions and Faithful/Artifact Users. All hail the children of the gods.
Should be called British Rick Riordan World now.
Wow... sounds like most people's reactions to Mage from nWoD >.>
I love the Dresden verse but I could see where that could get out of hand. More so with how they handle "XP" over there. Seems like a cap would have been one of the best options. Though... If we're talking the source material, a wizard could get level/power capped on the whole magic side of the house and then chose to be one of the fae Knights for a boost right? >.>

RE: RL Anger
To play devil's advocate, she may not realize she's doing it.
I use 'we' when someone I work with has done something wrong but I don't want it to sound like an accusation singling them out instead of a team trying to fix a problem.
"We should avoid dividing by zero" sounds softer than it could have been.
I don't get this and don't do it because it doesn't work. More often than not I've seen where the one responsible feels worse because then WE clown the fuck out of them using WE since the whole team knows who it was.

RE: What do RPGs *never* handle in mu*'s? What *should* they handle?
The best time I ever had playing on a Mu* was on a system that behaved much like a table top in the amount of metaplot and events that ran. With that, staff allowed for and encouraged the players to interact with the grid/NPC systems to control, manipulate and even take over what other players had. It wasn't a perfect system but this was probably 6 years ago and my friends and I still laugh and joke about the stuff we did in that game.

RE: E3 2015
@Staked I hear from friends that Witcher 3 is good stuff. I like ESO because I have the option to instead of just going at it alone jump in with other people (friends/random other players). I have fun with it and once I settled on a build I like I've been having fun as time allows.

RE: Meta vs PrP vs Planning vs Impromptu
@Ide said in Meta vs PrP vs Planning vs Impromptu:
I've always felt that mu*'s would benefit from more clear setting of stakes at the start of a conflict (not necessarily a scene, just when the gloves come off). What am I risking here? What is my goal? So often the risk is "as little as possible" and the goal is "pound this person until they cannnot resist". Both of which are rather boring IMO.
Some people handle this informally but there are rules systems that have this baked in and it helps.
I like how they baked "Intent" into CofD rules for violence. Most STs I've seen don't use it, but its a great addition. The one ST that did really use it in game made things much more interesting.
CofD p.86 - 87: By stating her character’s intent, a player is setting out how much her character is willing to hurt, or even kill, someone else in order to get it. If a character’s intent has nothing to do with hurting people and she ends up killing someone, she loses a point of Willpower, in addition to probably suffering a breaking point.

I bought most of mine once I learned of drivethrurpg. But I'm weird and pay for all my music and movies/tv. I have this sense that hopefully my dollars will support the stuff I like.

It's because they don't care for or respect the medium they are posting in.
Mind you, I'm not trying to justify the practice but I've (at times snidely, I must admit) corrected people's rouges and of course the obligatory your/you're antics on WoW only to have them grumble back something about this being only a game and obviously who cares about grammar, spelling or for that matter, manners?
I do the same thing, man. Brofist. Try to imagine I am bumping my fist against yours. ?)
I had to do this with a man who was a Senior Administrator at a Hospital and it gave me depression to imagine that this chucklefuck gets to decide how people live and die...and I don't.
My excellent parsing of the English language certainly impresses all the Asian women on this dating website I'm on, but that doesn't make me feel good.
It just makes me feel like that guy from Napoleon Dynamite, Kip, or whatever.
"Yeah, whatever, fags, I'm, like, totally talking to this many hot Asian women right now, over the Internet."

RE: CofD and Professional Training
The info below is taken straight from the CofD book. I have a hard time with the "want" for people to make the game something more rigid and more difficult than I think its meant to be. Reading a lot of the discussions I feel like a lot of the intent of the game is missed. If our goal is RP/Story telling... why is PT an issue? Why is it a problem that my handy inventor with crafts 5 and dex 2 is good at repairing not only cars but knives, armor or sewing a torn shirt (if successes on a roll are hit)?
Skills defined in CofD:
Skills are learned and practiced abilities, rather than the innate abilities that Attributes represent. Skills reflect a character’s origins and interests, and can be acquired in many ways, from institutionalized learning to hands-on experience. Skills are divided into the same Mental, Physical, and Social categories as Attributes.Skills are very broad abilities, representing whole fields of knowledge or training. A Skill Specialty is a more focused application of a Skill, representing a specific subcategory of the Skill that the character is particularly talented or trained in. Skill Specialties allow you to personalize your character more. Two characters with very similar Skills can feel very different in play, if they have different Specialties.
Example Skill:
Academics represents general higher education and knowledge of arts and humanities. It covers topics like history, language, literature, law, and economics. It is a very broad Skill that covers general knowledge in all of these areas, but Skill Specialties can be used to represent a specific focus. The Academics Skill often represents the amount of schooling a character has. However, some characters are self-taught or have learned a great deal about relevant topics without actually setting foot on a college campus. Also, some people with advanced degrees pay no attention to topics outside their area of expertise, and have a low rating in Academics. The above is used to show its super flexible and to show you could have a Doctorate with one dot of academics and specialties related to an area of expertise...
With crafts the same is true in how its defined. But for CofD the following should be remembered:
The Storyteller is responsible for…
…bringing the Chronicles of Darkness to life through description.
…deciding where scenes start and what’s going on.
…portraying characters who don’t belong to other players.
…involving each player and her character in the ongoing story.
…putting players’ characters in tough spots, encouraging interesting decisions.
…facilitating the actions players’ characters take, while making sure there are always complications.
…making sure that poor dice rolls affect but don’t stop the story. The players are responsible for…
…creating their own individual characters as members of the cast.
…deciding what actions their characters take.
…making decisions that create drama and help keep the story moving.
…highlighting their characters’ strengths and weaknesses.
…confronting the problems the Storyteller introduces.
…developing their characters’ personalities and abilities over time, and telling personal stories within the overall story of the game.Everyone is responsible for…
…giving other players chances to highlight their characters’ abilities and personal stories, whether that’s by showing them at their strongest or weakest.
…making suggestions about the story and action, while keeping in mind the authority of players over their characters and the responsibility of the Storyteller to occasionally make trouble. -

The little sociopathic dick in my son's first grade class. I tried having empathy for him (perhaps he's got some behavioral issues or extenuating circumstances that cause him to try to stab other kids or shove them into walls), but then I saw that his non-handicapped mother parked her car every day in the handicapped lot at school. The one with signs posted stating that it is not a drop off/pick up spot, and that it is reserved for handicapped people and our crossing guards. And that she got pissed when she got caught by city parking enforcement. Because that shit just don't apply to her entitled self.
Guess where your dick kid learned his dick behavior from, lady? And the next time he undermines my parenting with my kid ('you mom said not to throw ice? well, lets just go to the hidden doorway and do it!') you will have yet another parent reporting him to the administration.
That reminded me of the following

RE: Which canon property/setting would be good for a MU* ?
The Black Company series by Glen Cook would make for a fantasic mu* setting. There would be so much that could be done story wise and with names like Croaker, One-Eye, The Limper, and Moonbiter... how could you go wrong?! It looks like they are in talks to bring the whole thing to TV as well.
If you don't know the series you should check it out. I loved the story and writing. I could read though all the books on deployments and never get tired of Croaker's narriation or Goblin and One-Eye and all the magic pranks they'd play on one another.
