    • RE: Feelings of not being wanted...

Whenever I've generally felt unwanted on a place, it tends to come back to two or three things for me :

      1. I'm shy as hell, both online and off, and its really hard to get out there sometimes, especially if it's a big, intimidating place. (Looking at you, TR/Fallcoast)
      2. I've had a bad day, so everything sucks
      3. My schedule to be around tends to suck, so that makes planning anything tricky

As such, I try to keep that in mind when I start feeling down and mopey about a place. Is it the place, or is it me being weird/having a bad day? I tend to apply that to others as well, with the idea that yes, there are people behind the screen.

Guess my point is, it's nice to see a constructive thread like this. I think discussing these things can go a long way to helping the dwindling community as a whole.

(Also, not sure who said it about engaging others and not being self centered about rp but... there are few things more frustrating for me when someone RPs with you, gives you /nothing/ to respond to in their two lines of pose (even though you've been trying to lead them in to things for a few rounds, after they've asked for rp), yet they still seem to get All The RP while you're floundering around in Cricket-Ville. Maybe I've just pinned my Elitist badge on a little too hard, these days, but jeez... Talk about feeling unwanted.)

      Adding Vesper @ Fallcoast

Assuming I ever play her. I don't do well keeping up with alts, but I like her concept!

Bat changing breed if anyone's interested.

    • RE: More Fitness

I got a Fitbit for Christmas. Totally love it to pieces.

Good: I've lost about ten pounds since vacation a few weeks ago.

Bad: The weight loss was mostly due to being epically ill with that upper respiratory plague that's going around.

Not a healthy way to start things off, but I'm treating it like a kickstart toward getting back into shape. Actually starting to feel like a person again, and like I don't need to be hooked up to my inhaler and nebulizer anymore, so I'm looking forward to getting out and about, inclement weather be damned.

My poor dog has gotten out of shape, too, so I'm looking forward to taking him out for walks and runs and new tricks.

I'm enough overweight at this point that I could stand to lose about 100lbs. Which I know won't happen overnight, do I would really just like to take a chunk of that off by September (my birthday!). Right now 30lbs is the first goal, and I'll see what happens at that point >>

I'm not totally sure how to add people to Fitbit yet, (or really what/where my username is, tbh), but I'd love to have some fitbit motivation friends, or to help others, so if you want me to add you, send me a message or whatever =D

    • RE: MSB alias/username

I was a little burnt out on MUSHing and such before a friend convinced me to go to TR, where I made a bird-themed Changeling (who was totally obsessed with Jurassic Park and velociraptors). Met a very good friend there who made me an e-mail address (while drunk, I believe?) that was bird-themed, and since then the bird-theme has kind of stuck in various forms, in my usernames for stuff.

    • RE: RL Anger

I really hate it when things make me whiney.

I've developed the upper respiratory plague that's going around, and I have asthma, so I've been down for the count since Christmas. Officially can no longer speak, as I've coughed myself hoarse. Was initially treated for a severe sinus infection. Damnit I don't want to go back to the doctor.

Here's hoping they don't cancel it. They've been pulling through with some good shows lately, rather than all that reality tv bs. I haven't seen anything but the first episode of Expanse, but I'm excited to see where it goes. Fingers crossed!

Just got out of Star Wars...
Even through the fog of flu, dayquil, and irritating family vacation, it was sooooo gooooood.
That or the flu meds just made me enjoy it more...

      Sick on vacation.
Like, 101+ degree fever on vacation. Both my dad and I are so sick. This is so lame... At least I waited toward the end to get sick.
Buh... I want my own bed. And my own cold medicine. And my own house.

    • RE: Pick Your Poison: A Chronicle of Darkness Interest Check

I don't think I've ever seen a Hunter game run. That'd be pretty awesome to play, really.

And losing characters? Shit happens. That's not always for everybody, but I find it kind of refreshing.

    • RE: To dice or not to dice?

I tend to prefer no dice and more freeform because I like the extra creativity that tends to allow, BUT! It really depends on who you're playing with, and what system. Not everyone can be a reasonable human being, and handle freeform type of things so... I'm with @Sunny and @Bobotron.

      All depends on the situation.

      Helpful, I'm sure =D

I do not know such things. All I know is that person in question was arrested years ago, and I have not heard from the since. Although that does have me curious now, about the internet thing..

It's totally too much work. When I say avoid, it's more an issue of if I happen to find out it's the same person, I nope on out of there. Pretty sure one of those people is in jail anyway, sooooo...

      @Ghost
Definitely sounds like you might need to branch out a little more 😃 Good you're willing to do so, though!
I only know of two people I flat out avoid, because of legit crazy/stalker tendencies, in the over-a-decade I've been at this RP thing. I'm totally way too shy for my own good and really have trouble getting out there to RP as a result, but I'm willing to RP with anyone. It's just a matter of catching me when I'm not at work (rare these days), or feeling less anti social/shy than usual >>
That said, if anyone is still giving Fallcoast a go, feel free to look me up there as Red. I can usually think of a reason for her to be anywhere/when.

      @Arkandel

I'm a cake decorator and a freelance illustrator. So by plan, I mean...more than the day of the event for some crazy elaborate cake, and for drawings, more than a few weeks ahead of time.

I had to tell some poor lady that, no...I couldn't do her friend's elaborate wedding cake the next day, let alone in the next hour, this past weekend (frequent occurrence...I do what I can, but
come on...). She thought you "just came in whenever, to get one" and pointed at our styrofoam display cakes =|

And the drawing thing... Customers who get mad at me for not being able to get them a custom drawing in a week (finished and shipped to them, of their own photo), this time of year.

That kind of planning. Or lack thereof.

Sick, work, holidays, work, tired, work, Destiny, work. That time of year I guess... you know, like every time of year >>
In general I've noticed that the average age group (as far as I can tell) is really getting to that point in their lives where RL is eating them alive. Kids, family, careers, etc. A lot of down time is likely not spent MUSHing these days, unless for special occasions, which I suspect would make for being quiet on the idling and ooc chatter, because they're "on a mission" to get things done. That's the trend I've noticed, anyway. In general.

So I thiught, "Oh, I'll just turn on Jessica Jones while getting some work done."

Two episodes in, I gave up and binge watched the rest on the couch while cuddling with the dog until 4am.

      Damnit Netflix.

    • RE: Creating characters

I've only ever played a handful of characters over the fifteen years or so I've veen RPing. There's a rare instance (mostly recently while trying to find a MUSH to play on...lots of turn around in the last six months) where I don't play a character for at least six months, and even then that's kind of short, for me.
What I find works the best (for me):

*It's been mentioned, but not detailing a background too much - or at least not having the most interesting things in their life, in the background.
*Making a concept that is flexible. Have your specific quirks and hooks that you stick to (because you liked the character enough to make it, stick with those reasons why), but try not to have them dictate every interaction. Influence, sure. But if you know what's going to happen in every scene because of a certain flaw, or whatever, then it's going to get boring.
*Roll with the punches. (Figuratively and literally). Figuratively - cannot stress being flexible, enough. Literally - don't be afraid of IC confrontation. Don't be afraid of short scenes. Short scenes can easily lead to more plot hooks. Characters not getting along at first, can lead to more plot hooks (assuming the person ooc wants to rp again).
*Curiosity - it kills the cat, but doesn't tend to kill plot unless you're a real jerk about it. This ties into "drop the pencil", a lot. Yes, drop the pencil, but try to respond when others do, too.

Aaand, that's all I can think of specifically, right now. Good luck! And RL willing, if you (or anyone) is on Fallcoast and doesn't mind a Changeling, I'm Red over there. Feel free to poke me for scenes! I'm not always available when on (i idle-chat at work a lot), but I do love meeting new folks 😃

ETA: Cliques? Forget cliques. I have my prefered rp people, but I feel like there's always one clique on a mu*, and then there's everyone else who thinks everyone else is in a clique, so they get frustrated and don't branch out. When everyone does that, that makes for a lot of lonely RPers. Branch out! The more people you meet, the more plot hooks you have.
I went to The Reach all by my lonesome (mostly because who dragged me there totally bailed. Not cool, man =p), and managed to find people to rp with, despite being overwhelmed and super shy, because I took that first step of branching out. Don't be afraid to help others with their characters, either. Often they'll return the favor. I'll stop rambling now =D
