    • RE: What the fuck happened to Hip-Hop?

      The beauty of hip hop back then was it was diverse. You could have N.W.A., A Tribe Called Quest, you name it. Now it just doesn’t happen like that.

      So while he was saying what happened to the message, he casually mentioned there’s Kendrick Lamar.

      What he should’ve been talking about how the diversity is still there. It’s just that certain types of hip hop are the mainstream.

      @SG

      I wish that wasn't the case, but it's all too prevalent. I think every Mu* should have a coherent story arc and the players should at the very least have some vague idea of what it is.

      Anyway, the last Mu* I played that had a complete story arc was Wing Commander: Red Horizon. I think that was the name of it and that was before I took no mu* playing hiatus of about 10 years.

      In the beginning, there was the confederation, the Union of border worlds and the Kilrathi factions. The confeds were busy squabbling while trying to fend off the Kilrathi. You know how that would turn out.....

      The middle: The Kilrathi end up conquering the humans....both factions. Of course a resistance springs up and now there's an enslaved human faction. Which leads to...

      The end: The resistance sabotages and musters up a force large enough to fight back against the Kilrathi and win! Yaaaaay!

      And then they closed the game down.

      Another one I can think of off the top of my head was Eubanana's The Greatest Generation. It basically was a World War I arc to test out the mechanics, then he started doing World War II campaigns. I think he even added planes and land vehicles.

      I played a nurse and a couple of soldiers on there. Had big fun!

      @admiral

      We get what you’re saying. The thing is it sounds like grandpa saying “ back in my day...” completely ignoring the fact hip hop still does have a message. He paid lip service to Kendrick Lamar, but Kendrick Lamar’s album sold really well “I got royalty and loyalty inside my dna.”
      At this point music is two to three generations removed from him. It went from an underground art form to a mainstream genre. The consequence is that it is what it is today. Instead of taking young artists under his wing, he’s alienating them by talking shit about them.
      While he was talking about what he was rapping about, he ignored the fact that Ice-T and Too Short were rapping about pimpin and disrespecting women at the same time.

      It still has a message, he’s just not seeing it.

    • RE: Where do younger folks RP these days?

      @rebekahse

      I think it can be mush quality if you find the right group and sim and you're on with the right people.

      For some reason the pirate sims seem to never die, then there are oddball ones like wrestling...seriously, they mic up and act like wrestlers or roller derby. Those "urban" sims like Crackden are still going too.

      Yup mesh is everything right now. I stopped with the mesh body, havent gotten into the mesh head thing. I'm waiting to see what they do with project bento, since its going to add facial bones. I just learned to rig fitmesh, so imma wait on a head because bento may make them all obsolete.

    • RE: MSB alias/username

      Me and a friend were watching music videos and smoking. A Tupac video came on followed by a 50 cent video. I said to her "Oh my god! It's like Thug Heaven! Take me to thug heaven!" We started laughing hysterically. Whenever she'd see me she'd say "omg! It's Thugheaven!" This happened right around the time I started an account on SNARK/WORA.

      It made more sense back then, but it's the name I had on the old board so...

      @Lithium See, no. I really meant read erotica in general....no disclaimer. Now you're getting into what's good and what's not; which is for whoever is reading it to decide.

      The reason I mentioned Zane is because it's arguably bad yet I enjoy reading it. There's a whole lot of things that count as erotica, from 120 days of Sodom, which I think a lot of people have read to The English patient to The Tropic of Capricorn.

      But without reading a variety, how would you know what you like? Reading a variety could actually help your writing.

      I don't think reading erotica needs a disclaimer at all.

    • RE: MU Things I Love

      @coin You'd be surprised. The last game I played heavily was touted as a grimdark world. Yet my character cussed like a sailor, would come up with ideas like, "That guy over there looks like an easy mark, let's rob him." and other players would be like "No! W-why, why would you do that? I mean we're thugs, but....we don't do that."

      @goyim Gotcha. That's kinda what I noticed would happen if somebody tried to pull it off.

    • RE: Retail "Horror" Stories

      Every store has its characters, those oddballs that come in and do their thing. When I was a front end supervisor it was "Santa Claus".

      I know what you're thinking, "a guy coming in the store with a Santa Claus suit". No, we called him Santa because he looked like Santa without the suit: white hair and beard, pot belly and a friendly demeanor.....until.....

      You start having a conversation with him. Then you begin to see he's a little off and probably escaped the loonie bin. I used to warn all the new cashiers about him because he had a type: young, pretty "thick" dark-skinned girls. Once he found one he would have a conversation with them for an uncomfortable period of time and I'd have to pull them off the register.

      One time we got a new girl named Brandy. The same day I tell her about Santa and how contractors can be really sleazy, guess who shows up? Yep, Santa's down there with Brandy. The code was to flash the register light and I would go down there and tell them to take a break. Five minutes pass and no flashing light. He should've left by now, so I make my way down there.

      Brandy's looking at me wide eyed when I tell her to take a break. She quickly leaves. Fifteen minutes later he's back looking for Brandy. I tell him Brandy went home. He rings up duct tape, rope, contractor bags and drain opener (I'm not even joking about the items).

      I ask her about what he said to her and she says "he has a room for me in his basement and I should stay with him." I told her, "..next time you gotta get out of there like I told you. You can't have a conversation with him and hope he goes away." She agrees and life goes on.

      About a week later Brandy comes running into the store terrified and crying. Santa pulled up in a van and tells her he'll give her a ride to work. She refused and he started following her until she ran. I tell her to go in the break room and who shows up five minutes later? Yeah....

      I tell him he's got to leave. He doesn't, I call the police and they show up pretty quick. They too know Santa and ironically they call him Santa. I'm not sure what they charge him with, but they put him in handcuffs and tell me he's a sex offender.

      I think he's worse than that.

    • RE: Shadowrun!

      I played Shadowrun Seattle, Detroit and London, yes even Denver.

      Names are escaping me now.

      My first Mu was Shadowrun, I played a yakuza soldier with the worst stats ever, can't recall her name. The next character I had was a French Canadian elf named Maria, she was an infiltrator. The only run I remember was the one where I opened a door with rigged explosives because everybody hmm'd and hawed around it and I dodged the blast. Someone on my team wrecked my car after that.

      On Shadowrun Detroit, I played a single mom mechanic. Her name is escaping me. Then I played Natty, a big ex soldier street Sam. I think I played Natty the most because he was a combat monster. After he got nuked for inactivity, I played Sukanya, a middle aged combat medic. She was also a combat monster, had a lot of fun with her too. Then the game went down.

      On Shadowrun Denver I played Sabra, an Israeli phys ad. I think I initiated once with her on there and I beat the crap out of some Troll in a pit fight. I want to say I won a tournament with her, but I think someone who was even more twinked up beat me, but the dice we were rolling were epic.

      On Shadowrun London I played Minerva, a Jamaican merc. It was a pretty low powered game. All I remember doing on there was beating up a PC in a bar and taking all of his weapons, because he was a dick.
      I miss Shadowrun...

    • RE: The Eighth Sea - Here There Be Monsters

      I think sailors did bathe and even wash their clothes. They most likely bathed with sea water and washed their clothes with rain water. It probably wasn’t a daily event and even when they were clean, there still wasn’t deodorant. Smelly? By our standards yes. Filthy? Probably not.
