RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
In Cuomo's favor, he's being blunt and realistic saying the number of American infected could be between 40% and 80% and stating he expects things to last months not weeks.
Tuesday, I'll apply for unemployment. Hopefully the website won't have crashed.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@Rinel They won't since I now have no income. They weren't large to begin with. And a check for $1200? Not going to cut it. And lots of people are in worse condition.
I understand the reasoning. I do. I also don't hear anything significant that will help people who are now effectively unemployed for the foreseeable future.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
Fuck you Cuomo. Why are New Yorkers panicking? Because you are. First you decree that all business must have 50% of its workers working from home or laid off. Overnight, you slash it to 25%. Yes, the number of cases jumped a lot. That's because we're now testing a lot. Did you think it would be different?
My investments went down by 20%. I was using the interest from it to augment my income since I don't earn enough to pay my bills (having just changed career tracks and starting with zero experience). I pulled out of the market completely since it's not done tanking and will have no interest to draw on (never touch the principal if you can help it which I now can't). And because of your executive order, I'm now working 2 days a week instead of 5 and being paid accordingly. What executive order are you issuing to help the people pay their bills?
Telling myself I'm better off than most Americans isn't helping. It just makes me feel bad for most Americans.
Thank the gods for Knob Creek bourbon (which I have been imbibing in mass quantities).

People were panic shopping. They do this for storms too. Oh there's going to be a blizzard (that people live through every year) wipe out the stores of their stock and replenishment.
I went to the supermarket Friday. There wasn't any meat on the shelves. No chicken, no pork, not beef. Not even the cuts that are over $10.99/lb
I went shopping right before Hurricane Irene and then Hurricane Sandy the following year. It was business as usual. This is unprecedented./

A non-violent direct action group I'm a member of is holding discussions online about ways to raise awareness for environmental issues.
Due to strangely pervasive spelling mistakes, a legit discussion is now being held on the viability of gorilla gardening.
I recommend Guerillas in the Mist as a good primer.

The WHO has raised the mortality rate to 3.4% and it'll probably go higher. Thing is though, there's probably been a lot of under reporting of illness as people just wrote it off as a cold or the flu. So don't let the percentages get to you too much.

It does make me wonder.. The majority of MUers don't frequent MSB. I wonder what narrative he is spinning to other people about this.
The one in which he is a victim.
I base this on that being exactly what he told me the first time I encountered him. A long story about how he was misunderstood and unfairly treated (and a seventeen year old Portuguese kid in a computer lab, but nevermind that part).
You see this quite clearly in the channel log posted early on in the thread where he's Aksel. He's obviously the victim.

Sounds like they conveniently 'forgot' to do what was needed to present a successful case in an abominable situation that they should feel horrible about doing?

tampons are seen as virginity stealers or the gateway to whoredom
Thank you, I'm stealing this plot concept for a horror screenplay.
I just need help coming up with a title. Revenge of the Tampon? The Cotton Menace?
Men's imaginations make for a wonderful source of inspiration.
For your enjoyment, I present Teeth.
Thanks to my American Gothic class when I went back to college, I once had to opportunity to gleefully explain vagina dentata to a classroom full of fairly sheltered and privileged students at a Catholic university. My professor was trying very hard not let his giggling show. It was great.

RE: RL things I love
@Ganymede You're making the mistake of thinking that pleasure is desirable for women. The purpose of them is to have babies. Enjoying sex is not necessary and possibly even sinful.

RE: Food!
@mietze I tried an Impossible Whopper and would never have guessed it wasn't real meat. It makes me very happy that we are headed in the direction of not having to kill animals in order to be omnivores. One day...

RE: The Game Game
I haven't played any other genres in a while but, at least with supers, you have many of the same players playing on multiple supers games. Sometimes they play as different characters, sometimes the same exact one. Regardless, having a character on every supers game currently running is not unusual. Variety is the spice of life and all that.

RE: The Game Game
I've never looked on another game in the same genre as competition. I want it to be interesting and do well. In fact, I'm likely to play there if it is as playing on a game you're not staffing on can be relaxing.

RE: ISO: a comics/superheroes MU* (give me your recs)
@Runescryer That dichotomy is exactly what we're trying to prevent. If actual people app her differently, it will need to be worked out somehow. Mental gymnastics. The same applies if someone apps the TV version of Green Arrow or Black Canary after someone dropped (one of) the comic versions.
It's a headache we don't really want to deal with but if someone wants to actually /play/ that version, they're free to and if there are issues, we'll help. However, if it can be avoided by simply not mentioning someone by name in a scene, that's how we want it to be. It avoids potential headaches for us, for the apping player, and the player who was doing the mentioning.
ETA: I'd feel guilty about this taking over the thread but it is a question someone making a new game will need to consider.

RE: ISO: a comics/superheroes MU* (give me your recs)
@SquirrelTalk We disagree that it's super limiting to avoid using someone's name. While retcons are a possibility when someone apps a character who was previously played, that's unavoidable since we're not going to ban every character that gets dropped. This? Is avoidable. And minor. People are free to disagree on whether it's minor or not.
@Runescryer No one is forced to keep a previously apped character's history or past scenes. They can start completely fresh, retconning everything if they wish. We'd prefer they try to keep as much as they're comfortable with and work things out with other players but it's their choice.

@Wolfs said in ISO: a comics/superheroes MU* (give me your recs):
@TNP Well, I would say a "hot, young Aunt May" wouldn't really mesh with what people normally expect to see when they think of Peter's aunt, but that's something your app staff would have to make a call on if and when it came up.
Did you not see Captain America: Civil War? There are people who only know that Aunt May. There are also different versions of Alfred.
