      tragedyjones

      @TNP said:

      Dear @tragedyjones.

      I'm a relatively young Ventrue who was Embraced during college. None of my friends know I died or that I'm now a creature of the night. They think I just disappeared for a few years due to a breakdown from stress (I was pre law). I still maintain contact with them for dinner and theatre dates and they don't have a clue.

      My problem is that now we're in our thirties, they're starting to get married. I've already had to miss three weddings because they were scheduled for noon. My coterie says I should just break ties with them but I don't want to do that.

      My question is this: a fourth friend just got engaged and they're setting the date. Should I dominate them into an evening ceremony or just resign myself to another missed wedding? Do I still need to buy a wedding gift for them if I'm not going?

      Asleep During Daytime

      Asleep During Daytime, you have a few ways to handle this. First, you're young and new to your Requiem. If you are durable enough, and as a Ventrue you may know some Resilience, you could try and be a badass and attend the wedding, at least the ceremony, and leave early claiming you aren't feeling well - the sunburn will help corroborate your story. If you're fully fed you can survive an hour or two in the daylight without taking any aggravated wounds, but be sure to have a snack planned.

      If you are already considering Dominating them to alter the ceremony, perhaps you can do that, but this is a dangerous path. It only gets easier to break people after the first try. Are they your friends then, or just meat-puppets to bend to your will?

      And yes, you should send a gift. Especially if they are well to do in the mortal world, you should continue to cultivate those allies!

      Just an aside, at least the Covenant write-ups in 2nd Ed give examples of how they tend to act when in charge and when NOT in charge.

      Coin

      @il-volpe said:

      @Coin I love the timeskip idea, and would like to play that, too. On some other occasion when it was brought up, there was the objection that when you choose to skip is going to end up being good timing for some PCs and not for others. Still, I really don't think this would be that huge a problem, even for a large game. So long as you're clear about it to begin with, why would people bitch except for the sake of bitching? I'd actually set it up so that the last month or two of the RP time would be 'wrap up anything you need to RP out, folks," time. And be sure everyone knew at the start of each cycle when the time-jump would happen and how long it would be.

      Yeah it's really only a problem for people who aren't paying attention. If you know it's coming and have some time to figure it out, it should be fine.

      The real issue comes for people who come in late and only get to play a month or two before a timeskip. But them's the breaks. If you're clear and honest about when the timeskips will happen, then that's that.

      The timeskips can also be good moments to change the Start XP so everyone can be more or less at the same level. For example: everyone starts with an amount of XP equal to however much was available for spending in timeskips. That way, the only real advantage older players have is XP spends they made during play, which are limited anyway.

      @tragedyjones,

      I recently went down nostalgia way and tripped over Aether's internet archive, which includes maybe the best written "for people who have never seen this nonsense before" set of instructions. Might want to look?

      Why not just use the old CP2020 system? Wasteland did fine with it.

      Also there is numerous references to Cyberpunk in Fallout. A few of the games mention dermal armor and wired reflexes, and you have Androids and other robotic based characters. Hell one of the guns in Fallout 2 is the exact gun from Blade Runner.

      @Staked It's super awesome on the PS4! And you can share quests with your group so you can do things truly together, which is good for me, my level doesn hold others back. I will admit it's better with friends. Talking out loud to myself to the NPCs isn't as fun as making snarky remarks with others. And making group decisions like 'yay lets be evil necromancer jerk faces!' Is more fun with the togetherness factor. I'm also really good at 'charging into battle!!' Followed by 'oh help help help!!'

      Also possible: The God Machine is the DemiUrge.

      From wikipeida:

      "In the Platonic, Neopythagorean, Middle Platonic, and Neoplatonic schools of philosophy, the demiurge (/ˈdɛmiˌɜrdʒ/) is an artisan-like figure responsible for the fashioning and maintenance of the physical universe. The term was subsequently adopted by the Gnostics. Although a fashioner, the demiurge is not necessarily the same as the creator figure in the familiar monotheistic sense, because both the demiurge itself plus the material from which the demiurge fashions the universe are considered either uncreated and eternal, or the product of some other being, depending on the system."

      The God-Machine is God's Machine. His robotic smarthome management system. Except it's run amok.

      I like this. A lot.

      Back up. Sorry for the trouble.

      MPM-ITK (the thing that lets me host php inside a mod_php but with different sites owned by different users rather than that horrid common wwwdata heresy) still has some odd glitches now and then. The nightly apache2ctl graceful (for log rotation) apparently got stuck. Fixed now!
