@Arkandel I had a conversation with a friend in which we threw the idea back and forth that at some point (possibly very soon) you're gonna see a team where their star player doesn't even play more than a quarter a game or maybe far less, a quarter or so in a week until the playoffs. Keeping their guys rested, but also keeping them free of injury. I pegged LBJ as the best candidate for that, especially with the way the Cavs have their roster set up. Let the other guys win enough games to get them to the playoffs, then bring in LBJ full time to win the championship. It won't matter what place they come in, so long as they get in the playoffs, then take the whole thing. It is a ridiculous notion, yet plausible in these times.

RE: 2016-2017 Basketball Thread
@Arkandel I gotcha then. I'm all for building up a great team with drafts and coaching or even bringing in role players in free agency that fit your team. And yeah, the NBA system already isn't great for seasonal enjoyment, but they keep making it worse.

I know this is likely the irrational fan in me talking, but I fully expect Thibs to turn the Twolves into a contender in about 3 more years.

Anthony Davis needs to go to a real team. His prime is going to get completely wasted on that piece of shit roster he's stuck with.
This is just the way of the world these days... Why should all the best players be on just three or four teams? What's the point of having the rest of the teams around if that's the case? Was I the only one who checked out of the NBA last year altogether until the playoffs? I didn't find the drama of seeing which teams would fight for the glory of losing to the Warriors and Cavs in each conference very appealing. Occasionally, I did check in to see if the Warriors were still on pace to break the record for most wins in a season, only to have even that time spent be a waste of time when they didn't take home the trophy (which likely would have been the result a year before that if the Cavs didn't have the injuries they did).
The thing that actually made GS appeal to me is that they didn't just buy superstar talent to build their team. They developed it instead. And it was telling that they ultimately lost to a team that did. The only thing that was more disappointing than watching GS lose to a free agency stacked roster was watching GS bring over KD in the same manner to try to up the ante. I think the best players all grouping up on the same teams makes for horribly boring seasons and I hope this trend goes away quickly.

RE: Supernatural: Lost & Found
I love Supernatural. I'd love to play a Supernatural game. But because of the time period I'd stay away from it.
I would not look forward to having to deal with all the "-isms" people will feel free to "explore" because "it fits the time period and setting". Several MU* folk don't need any excuse to be more offensive than they already are...

RE: Leadership, Spotlight, and PCs of Staffers
I have to say, I don't understand the desire to hold staffers to such strict and rigorous standards while players are generally allowed to be shits whenever they choose to be and continue to have as much fun as possible. It seems like there will be more people who don't run games and don't staff places just for not wanting to deal with the drama that such strict standards inevitably creates.
We're all bouncing around on the same games with the same people, pretending they are something new, when the reality is that we've done it all before and we'll do it all again. The same drama of cliquish, teenage whisper campaigns I dealt with 6 years ago, I'm dealing with on the place I play now. I wouldn't even be surprised if the people behind it were the same people from 6 years ago using the same tactics to alienate people. And that's insane.
Maybe it would be better for everyone to stop making different rules for staff and players as though they were two different species and instead hold people accountable for being people. Maybe then more people would be willing to donate time to places and actually be able to have fun, instead of being told that if you volunteer for a position to help all the other players, the rules in place are going to make it as difficult as possible for you to have your own fun. Maybe then we would get new stories and new ideas and less stress and less burn out and more people enjoying more of their time in this hobby.

RE: The 100: The Mush
I'm glad I didn't invest any time into the game. I mean, I tried, but one of the staffers asking me to take things out of my background because it had never been seen on the show. Eventually it got down to like four lines and given the thumbs up, only to the have the 'other one' come in and deny the character because my background was too short. Eventually, I got the feeling the only character that would work for them both was a background character to fill time and space for more important PCs - nobody special, who has never done anything significant, and had the potential to stand out, yet had never done so at any point in his life despite being older than almost everyone around him.
I'm okay with having dodged the bullet there. Like most people say, they seem like good enough people (though I've always preferred the husband to the wife), but when on staff they tend to leave a trail of dashed hopes in their wake. I've played on games they've staffed and on games they were players. I greatly prefer them as players.

You want to talk over-powered? Werewolves. All the way.
If you're talking direct combat, sure. But in other areas Werewolves are lacking. The good thing about CoD Mage is, they pushed them back to D&D status where they can be powerful in general, but squishy in combat. And to be at their best they need the right, rare components and a lot of time to prepare, preferably in a specialized room.
Now I don't know if every splat now has a particular area where they outshine the other splats, but combat is not the forte of the Mage, especially compared to Werewolves. Even combat focused Adamantine Arrows would have a tough go of trying to match Werewolves.

Couldn't name it if I tried.
I know it is a toy unto itself, but it really sounds like this story was: 'When I was a kid, my parents got me a knock off of the left arm of a toy I really wanted for Christmas...' And I can't stop loling.

I am lucky to hold a gym for a few hours.
What the hell is with those monstrous Pokethings up in gyms, where are they coming from? I saw a 3200 (!) fucker up on a gym the other day, too many are well in the 2500+ range.
Meanwhile I'm playing quite frequently, I've spent dusts and candy upgrading/evolving some of my Pokemon and the highest one I have is... 1550?
The more you level up, the more you'll continue to catch stronger and stronger Pokemon until level 30. Then it levels out (so far). So you can spend as much as you want at level 15 to evolve or upgrade your Pokemon, someone at level 25 can just catch a Pokemon far above your upgraded little guy by chance. I'm only 22 and just last week I caught one that was 1363. So if I spend just a little to level it, it would quickly get up there with your highest in just a few levelings. I've seen as high as level 29 in my area so I can only imagine they are catching Pokemon in the 2k area consistently and leveling the best up to 3k+.

2E Magic is very simple. Choose an effect, add so many effects and dice that you're rolling at -10, add so many bonuses that you end at +5. It's a min-maxer's wet dream, but it's otherwise straightforward. Kind of.
Also, from what I read, for rotes you can choose which skills you want to associate with a spell. So as long as you can explain how your firearms skill relates to that particular Spirit spell, you can use your maxed skill in your dice pool, not the 0 stat you ignored, even though that 0 skill would logically make more sense.

RE: The basketball thread
@Arkandel So what part did you disagree with?
-
RE: The basketball thread
@ThatGuyThere I disagree that the NBA will be less fun to watch without him. He was one of the least entertaining basketball players to ever play. He was all about business and rarely looked like he was even having fun. I do think he was one of the best, but certainly not fun to watch and not at all exciting.

RE: The basketball thread
Some of the Warriors were cocky. But not everyone. You can't just lump everyone together. Whoever was talking about Curry being the GOAT, it wasn't Curry. The ones that were cocky actually played the best through the series. If more Warriors had been cocky maybe they would have played to a similar level.
But the only people who thought Bogut wasn't as important as he was were the people that don't follow Golden State. Festus Ezeli is a poor replacement, but that's what they had to go with. Basketball is more than just putting 5 guys on the floor. You have to put the right 5 for what the other team has. Along with an injured Iguadala, the Warriors were in a similar position to last year's Cavaliers.
When everyone was healthy and playing the Warriors went up 3-1 on the Cavs. Then injuries hit and everything turned around. They are definitely the best two teams in the NBA and by a narrow margin, but with all working pieces I say the Warriors take it. A player missing here or a player missing there seemed to make a big impact on Golden State.
Even still, they kept it closer than they should have been able to. The fact that Golden State couldn't play at their usual level offensively ultimately made the difference, though. Great teams and great players rise to the occasion. Golden State did it last year when Cleveland could not. Cleveland did it this year when Golden State could not.

RE: Flights 'n Tights MUX
I think when you have a sex-MU* like this one, there's nothing wrong with specializing in a specific type of sexual experience. You know what you get and what to expect.

RE: Fallen World MUX!
Holy moly. People are rabid for this game... That's good, I think. Everyone else's eagerness makes me want to play, even though I've stayed away from Mage like it had the plague.
I guess its kind of cool that I can still find something new to experience.
