This is interesting and something I have considered looking in to, specifically with Ares and Evennia with their web integration.. but I'm not familiar with the actual MUSH codebases at all and you've banned the usual methods of compromise I do know.

I used to us DSC club until I found out that their blades are exactly the same thing (exactly, color and all) as the store-brand razors from my local grocery chain, handle used interchangeably. In my experience they will shave just as well as the more expensive ones, but they will be more irritating.

Though I didn't start as a know-nothing trainee like in Ark's Wheel of Time example I did move from being an experienced warrior to instructor in the White Tower, to fleeing to the Little Tower after the split and then eventually just getting tired of being a pawn for Aes Sedai shit and murdering one in her sleep for being so manipulative. He was one of the few characters on the MU to being given a heron-marked sword earned through roleplay and time instead of newer system that was implemented where they were given out as participation trophies (literally)
