      I saw a blurb somewhere recently that some state (California maybe?) was going to make it required for job posting to include a pay range

    • RE: Character Information: Wiki or Mu*?

      I hate writing descs. I have a bank of 3 I've just rotated through all of my characters everywhere I've played in the last several years. Sometimes alts on the same game will have the same desc, maybe I'll change the hair color. I would try to avoid just having a URL or link to a photo as a desc though so that occasionally blind MU*er still has some idea of what's going on.

    • RE: Character Information: Wiki or Mu*?

      I do 95 percent of my MUing from a phone. I generally prefer info on a wiki instead of trying to figure out archaic + or @ or who knows what commands and switches to get the info I need and even then the formatting isn't always all that nice to read on a phone screen.

      But.. I think it all should be available on the MU AND the wiki. We have the technology now to make it not a huge headache

      I'm lazy and didn't read through all the post so this may be a repeat, but:

      If you did your original setting would you make your writings/notes/etc available?

      For me 4 people at an event/plot would be a success and probably as big as I want to go, but I loathe larger scenes.

      Ownership of their own fun is a big thing. Letting players have a stake in the game, make plots that actually change things, take a life of their own beyond when the event ends, etc. What I've seen as the biggest hurdle to this is making it an onerous process for players to actually run a plot. Making the approval process to run it a bunch of busy work, bureaucracy. People are lazy and want to have fun, not input text into jobs.

      I see the Magicians setting as the most likely to allow this as you have explained it

      @auspice
      Depending on where you played that never really stopped. That's been common place on MUs I've played on all along. It's up to staff to make players feel empowered to do that and trusting players to do it without wanting to micromanage everything.

      I kept reading Neitherlands as Netherlands and could not figure out why you were so stuck including the Dutch, as awesome a people as they are.

      WoD 2.0 is way way to complex/crunchy I think for what Auspice might be looking for. the "quick guide" for casting a spell is multiple pages long.

    • RE: Potential Game / Temperature Read

      @auspice
      Dresden Files RPG had a similar approach to magic where you had schools (elements) of magic and then a Power or Control rating in that school. It worked pretty well.

      I've been considering doing something similar magic wise with FS3 for Wheel of Time too.

      I haven't watched the Magicians show, just read the awesome books... but what would characters on the MU actually do? outside of classes/baRP?

      Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but I'm getting the feeling that Tempest doesn't like OCs.

    • RE: iOS 11 and MudRammer

      Heard back from MudRammer with his typical awesomeness.

      Issue is Smart Punctuation in iOS 11. Can be turned off through Settings->General->keyboard->Smart Punctuation Off or by doing a long hold on the ' and " characters to choose the non-smart versions to send each time.

    • iOS 11 and MudRammer

      Anyone else out there that uses MUDRammer as a client having trouble with the iOS 11 update? Something with character encoding seems to have changed and ‘, “ and a few other characters no longer work correctly on anything but evennia that I have tried.

      Changing encoding to UTF 7 fixes the issue for some MUs, but breaks it Evennia and doesn’t work for all others.

      Anyone else have the issue/found a solution?

    • RE: RL things I love

      @Aria There was a story in the local paper here a few weeks ago about a small business plumber that had learned the trade from his father/taken over the business now doing the same for his daughter. It was awesome to see a girl unafraid to get into the trades, but also kinda sad that it was novel enough to warrant a human interest story.

      A lot of plumbing/house break/fix type jobs are really easy to tackle on your own, especially with the aid of the internet and youtube how-to. Surprisingly I've yet to see "How to Fix a Leaky Spigot" type guide that listed a penis under the required tools.

    • RE: RL Anger

      We get free food relatively often at work and I've rarely heard anyone complain that wasn't giving a valid complaint. Like the catered luncheon where the vegetarian can only eat one of the bags of chips... said vegetarian got themselves into the position of helping arrange the food and fixed the problem instead of whining about it.

      That said.. at a company event there was gluten free, vegan pizza. It remained untouched. I felt sorry for both the vegan and the gluten free because both of their restrictions got combined into just.. awful.
