You guys can have your male channelers and all that. I just want a wolfkin. I also loved the World of Dreams and the possibilities in it.

Remembering all the different magical things people could do kept me from pursuing an Aes Sedai on Cuendillar. Going away from that with another type of character was easier for me to get into. Plus, many of them will need Warders as well.

But, I think there does need to be a quota cap on how many PCs there can be of a certain type. Maybe a soft quota, one staff has to monitor early on to see if they think there are too many people trying to play this or that so things can be more balanced, but if you have a world full of male channelers running around, I think it starts to lose its uniqueness.

Maybe what we're looking at seeing in-game is the main focal point of things, with the commoners left as NPCs or in the background in general, but having no limits runs the risk of diluting the pool and making the abnormal normal instead.

I definitely agree on limiting Darkfriends/Black Ajah, and any that exist should probably be in contact with staff fairly frequently in order to help keep them coordinated. It did get a bit out of control on Cuendillar.

There were just SO MANY chapters where little to nothing actually happened. I don't know. Maybe Jordan was trying to do subtle world-building in various ways, but far too often things just ended up exceedingly boring and I was almost begging to reach a point where things went somewhere.

@coin I had to use the numbers to get it to work earlier. There was a comment on, I think, the second page with them.

@jealousy Thanks. The original post, pre-edit, was taking me to 67.214.96.35 Port 3020 instead.

@The-Tree-of-Woe Site address in the original post is timing out when trying to connect. Is the game currently up?

      @kanye-qwest

GRRM is also well-known to hate 'fan fiction' and find it distasteful, hes' talked about it in interviews and junk. I don't think I've ever heard of an IP holder ACTUALLY sending a C&D letter to a MU*; I feel like it's a holdover from the old days of Lion King MUCKs and the nebulous fear of Disney suing them.

I was once on a Narnia place something like 20 years or so back and it ended up getting a C&D from someone who was part of the Lewis Estate, IIRC. It was a shame.

@iluvgrumpycat When Pyro took up Wolverine, he just would not shut up on the channel about this stupid boat he had in whatever cove there was at the lake on Xavier's property. Then one time he brings Wolverine onto the Brotherhood channel just to (briefly, thankfully, because doing it already with Pyro just wasn't enough) spam that one too, about switching teams because of some stupid reason. No, he wasn't serious, but it was just another example.

I'm glad they finally banned him, because he was a cancer with all of the "PAY ATTENTION TO MEEEEEE" crap.

@cupcake You know how staffers always say "We'd love to try to address problems but we can't do it if nobody files a complaint!" and all that? Well, it seems people did in this case and finally it helped get something done, but in the meantime it still impacted enough people that at least two left first.

@iluvgrumpycat If so, too little, too late in my case. I wasn't looking to have anyone punished, but after the attitude he expressed when people brought it up, I was hoping staff would at least tell him to chill especially when others mention it as bugging them. If someone is commanding an excess of attention in a lounge or on a channel, the solution shouldn't be for those bothered by it to leave or shut it off. It should end in the person causing it knocking it off.

@iluvgrumpycat Well, that sounds like something that needed to be done. Now I'm wondering what caused it, if it was beyond just this stuff.

@gamerngeek Yes, Pyro, who is/was also Logan.

I did submit a complaint, and this shows the last example of what led to it along with the staff response:

@three-eyed-crow The place is still up, though there's only ever really one or two people sitting around there and we know who one of them is.

@auspice M/Tu would have been better for me since my schedule has me out W/Th/F nights and every other Sa, but right now I just don't know if I can even go back there whether it's to try the Marvel side again or dip into DC.

To be honest, I'll believe it when it happens.

Then again, a viable alternative to Cuendillar would be nice. I know that game's been inactive for like a decade now, but every once in a great while you can log in and see Nynaeve made a post about how the place isn't dead yet, that if she can just do one thing or another she has plans to make some stuff happen again and...well, she needs to face the fact that the game's time has come and gone at this point.

It can certainly be a fun, intriguing setting with a few different paths to take characters in, but it really needs a firm setting and some clear outlines of what will and won't be accepted in order for it to work. Having things really spread out, at least to begin with, may allow for some alts in different areas, but it may be better to start out focused on one region and build out from there.

I dunno. I tried the place for a couple months after it opened, and while I had some good RP I also felt like I was on the outside looking in. Part of this was my schedule being hard to RP around because events often took place later in the week right when I was getting ready for work, but I also definitely felt like I wasn't part of the "in" crowd.

I also spent a lot of time off the team channels because one of the players there tended to dominate whatever discussion was going on and he'd frequently spam the channels with one-line train-of-thought stuff that scrolled the screen very quickly. The one time I saw where anyone asked him to chill with that, he basically said "Nope." So, avoiding the channels (and the lounge, no doubt) probably kept me further out of the loop.

The Brotherhood also appeared to be set up as a group that was meant to be a viable alternative to the X-Men in public, sort of straddling the fence in a gray area while not being purely good or bad, but some of the RP to me looked like it was dominated by kill-happy characters doing things that should have got the group a lot more negative press and trouble. If I'd had more time and more of a chance to get further involved with things I would have liked to ICly question some of what others were doing, but by the time I'd discussed it with one or two players the channel spamming thing had happened, staff took the guy's side when a complaint was raised, basically saying he wasn't doing anything wrong, and I decided it was time to move on.

I'm sure there are some good people and good players there, but things didn't work out for me.

Speaking only on the subject of grid size, you don't need an actual large grid for a city to feel bigger. You can have a handful of central "hub" rooms - say, main sections of the city - with a variety of sub-areas that branch off it no more than one or two "levels," which keeps people from having to wander around 15-20 rooms just to find that coffee shop they want.

Just use a '+dir' setup, have it list all the rooms available off the main one, and you're good to go. One of the games I'm on these days does it like this and I find it much better to navigate than going through room after room after room. It's not a place that needs a hundred spots, either.

@ganymede I've done my own potstickers before, yes. I've also done my own sushi rolls a couple times. Cooking only for myself is certainly a luxury of some kind.

If anyone here likes cooking with spice rubs, do yourself a favor and get your ass over to spiceologist.com right now. (Pro tip: go as far as putting in your e-mail address, don't complete your order, and within a couple days you'll probably get a 25% off coupon code in your inbox because they want to try to capture potential customers).

I found them a few years ago during a Kickstarter campaign and I love a number of their rubs, particularly Smoky Honey Habanero, Black Magic, Chile Margarita, and Greek Freak. Most of what they make, I've enjoyed. I often use different rubs when I grill up some chicken thighs and mix something into the rice I cook to go with them, but I like using a bit of Black Magic or Smoky Honey Habanero on peas, corn, and stuff like that as well. I've done homemade potato chips or fries with those sprinkled on, too.

I guess I'd better show an example of that, yeah?

    • RE: Recipes!

Here's a country-style pancake recipe based on how my grandmother always made them (and how I still do):

For every full cup of mix, use equal parts regular pancake mix, buckwheat, and corn meal (ex: 1 cup = 1/3 cup of each)

For every cup of mix, add 1 egg, a small amount of oil (a couple tablespoons, basically), and milk mixed to your desired consistency (more for a thinner pancake, less for a thicker one). One cup of mix should do three or four medium-sized pancakes.

Note you can probably do this with a pancake mix that takes water instead of milk, but I've always bought the mix that calls for milk instead.

Heat a skillet to medium high heat (about halfway on an electric stove) and melt some vegetable shortening. Once you've poured the batter on, move the skillet around so the shortening gets in along the edges and turn the stove down a level after about a minute.

This gets a nice, crispy ring around the edge of the pancake and it has a nice crunch once you start eating it.

      Or, I could just show:

      Pancake goodness
