It's funny. I often read more about people mocking the so-called "great white outrage" than I read about any actual "great white outrage". I did a number of searches on YouTube and Google with things like "wheel of time casting (insert one of the following: outrage, controversy, angry white people, uproar, screaming, and racism)" and came up with nothing. In fact, all I could find as the opposite, about how they BETTER force diversity into the series or there will be major problems.

RE: TTRPG's You've Wanted to MU* (But Probably Won't)
Rifts or TMNT. Both Palladium games which means people have a strong knee-jerk reaction but I've had fun playing both since the 80s/90s.

RE: Another style of RPG - Cozy
@Misadventure I'd like to think this would work. I know several people who would be interested in something like this. For my group, it would come down to the final setting and whether or not it was Ares, but I think, in general, this type of theme could work. So long as there's something for players to do and plots to engage with, I'm sure players would come.

Yes, but you are playing the game with others. Presumably everyone of a particular Tier are playing or competing with one another, it becomes imperative to have the other books, which may have mechanics related how the occupations interact with one another.
I think it's more important that staff know how the two interact. This way they can act as a mediator for whatever conflict may erupt.
The good thing about the Palladium RPG is that it's not WoD. The mechanics are all kind of uniform giving bonuses or penalties to stats that all characters have. One character won't have Gifts that operate one way while another has Disciplines that operate a different way. I don't think there would be as big a disconnect between a character playing an RCC from book C and a character playing an OOC from book D as compared to something like WoD.

RE: Another style of RPG - Cozy
@Misadventure It depends on the situation and the NPC. I'm fortunate that the players take a lot of initiative for their RP and handle a lot internally. They may just ask, "So is it okay if we created <NPC X> and do <SOME THING> with them?" Then they'll spoof the NPC in their scenes.
Another time we created a host of NPCs for a slasher plot and players adopted the NPC to play in scenes up until they were killed.
Other times staff might step in and portray the NPC in a scene. Finally, yeah, there are +jobs to handle how some things might be done.
I think if you're playing with the right people, there is no real wrong way to handle it. Your example of using NPCs to represent an obstacle to overcome is fantastic.
The FS3 system is great for all of this because you can include rolls in the +jobs themselves for +job interactions.

RE: Dead Celebrities 2019
Went right from watching El Camino to seeing this. Very sad. RIP Robert Forster.

I think the issue is people enjoy the Ares and Evennia avenues, so doing it for those is a bit more work to develop the plugins and the like.
I could probably have a basic setup in Ares done in a weekend. Provided people were happy with in-game c-gen(that provides both an in-game and web based character sheet) and just using a basic dice system.

RE: OC Superhero Discussion
@runescryer I don't disagree with you in regards to crunch. The sad fact is, however, that most people look at those games(especially Champions) and just go on about needing an advanced math degree to play it. I find most people who say that have never actually played Champions(which is my personal favorite Hero RPG) but that's how people see it.
In regards to most of the crunch being in character generation, sadly that means most of the heavy lifting comes in coding that character generation in a suitable MU format. I did a M&M 3E system for TinyMUX and it was no mean feat.
For me, in regards to this conversation, as a coder, I'd have to weigh how much time, effort, and energy it would take compared to other systems that may work just as well but would be much easier to code.

RE: Good TV
I guess I'm in a weird minority. I thought all three of the people you mentioned would go on to have decent careers. I always thought a pre-Blade Trinity Ryan Reynolds was akin to a young Chevy Chase, I've liked Henry Cavill since I saw him in The Count of Monte Cristo, and I thought Brie Larson was the only one who COULD act on the few eps of I saw of Raising Dad.

I am still a huge advocate for use a game system to design characters, sort of a way to make sure everyone has the same number and power of options, and then just free form it from there.
This is exactly how I feel about it. For supers anyway. I like sheets as a way to give an "at-a-glance" look at a character. It's easier to look at a sheet and go "Oh, he has Strength 15 and Invulnerability 10", which tells you how hard he can hit and how much damage he can take in 20 or 30 characters, rather than reading through a few paragraphs of powers to get the same information.

@macha I'm right there with you. I don't think I'd be here today if it wasn't for my little guy. They are the definition of unconditional love.

@lotherio Yeah, I was tempted to try something like that to scratch that motu itch using Masters of Umdaar.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
People who complain, mock, or ridicule RPG systems that they have no experience with. I've been playing Palladium RPGs and the Hero system since I was in middle school and I love both of them. I get that they may not be the most popular gaming systems out there(especially Palladium) but I enjoy them both very much.
What bugs me are people who say things like, "I've never played Champions but I know it's super complicated and requires an advanced mathematics degree to play and that's just stupid." Or some such. All they do is parrot garbage they read off of forums and act like this makes them experts. Then, when you try to discuss this with them, just just shake their heads and walk away. It's very irritating.
I'm tempted to make a Champions or Heroes Unlimited MUSH just to spite people.

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
@squirreltalk I think a pro wrestling game would be really cool. Either one based in "reality" or a fantastical one that takes place in the far future(Champions of the Galaxy style) or even in a fantasy realm.
There's a WWE RPG that I think might translate well or even a hacked version of the diceless Marvel Universe RPG.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
I love Rifts. It's a glorious monstrosity of a setting where you can be anything and anything can happen. What other game allows a party comprised of a demigod, a vampire, a dragon, and a terminator like cyborg to go up against a Cthulhian like alien monster from another universe?

RE: Testing the Waters for Battletech Interest
I'm a weird one with this. I love the idea of a Battletech game. I play a Battletech video game a ton and I love giant robots fighting each other but...I'm awful with the lore. I honestly could not give less of a crap about any of it to be frank with you. I just like giant robots fighting each other.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
I don't really see anything wrong with the system, to be honest. I think it could use a bit of a skill overhaul and revision and I think it could use a "Second Edition" that smooths over some of the inconsistencies that have cropped up over the 30 years of supplements that have been made for it but that's about it. I don't think it's quite as slick as D&D 5E but I'd take Palladium Fantasy or Rifts over Pathfinder 1st or 2nd Edition any day.

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
Just got my PDF copy of Mecha & Monsters: Evolved and it makes me sad that this is likely not a game that will ever exist. Giant robots fighting giant monsters in a pretty slick and fast paced system. Ah well.
