    • RE: Worst Movies

Stargate Origins is up there for sure. I'm a huge Stargate fan(which reminds me...I need to finish Ericson on SG: MUSH!) and this was just...not good.

For me, the worst movie I can think of is The Last Jedi. It's not just a bad Star Wars movie it's a bad movie. Beyond that, though it took something precious and dear to me and kind of shat all over it. It did something nothing else had been able to do in 40 years; tarnish my love of Star Wars. There might be movies that are technically worse, have worse acting, or whatever but for sheer emotional impact, this is the one for me.

    • RE: Worst Games

This is a rough one for me because it was a game I was very much looking forward to. We're gonna have to take the way back machine to 1999 and a game called Birth of the Federation. It was a civilization builder type game set in the Star Trek universe. Everything about it looked great but it had one major flaw; it was un-fucking-playable thanks to the anti-piracy shit they threw on it.

They'd eventually patch it up properly and give it a decent UI overhaul making it a decent game but it was a long road to get there and this was back in the day when you had to track down patches and install them yourself after downloading them on your fucking dial-up connection.

    • RE: Which device do you play from?

I'm pretty 50/50 from a Surface 4 when I'm at work and my home desktop when I'm at, well, home. Actually, now that I play mostly on Ares games I guess I'm maybe 33/33/33 adding in the web browser from where ever I happen to be and can get a pose in.

    • RE: Consent in Gaming

Instead of checklists and aftercare and all the things listed above couldn't all of this be resolved with just having open and honest lines of communication?

I run a private game that deals with some gruesome stuff(it's a horror game set in the 80s) and most of the players on there are new to both RPing and MUSHing. When a plot is starting we've always been very open about what it involves and sometimes that has involved players coming to us and saying "Hey, mind toning this or that down" or asking how involved something else might be. We've always been able to work with players to find middle ground just by, you know, talking. I think some of the stuff mentioned is a bit heavy-handed and kind of intrusive.

As for aftercare, I cannot imagine a world where a plot runner goes to every player after a scene to make sure they're okay. I can see making sure staff is open to post-scene feedback(even mid-scene feedback) but, again, I think we're venturing into an odd area of making people uncomfortable by the methods we use to make sure that they're comfortable...

    • RE: Getting Young Blood Into MU*'ing

I honestly never understood the mentality that "all players must be given equal opportunities regardless of the effort put into the game". God forbid a staffer get, like, an extra alt or access to something rare and unusual for the time and effort they put into a game. I once let staffers get first dibs on characters for all the work they put into a game and I was roasted to hell and back by some because of it. I get not letting "all the cool stuff" available only to staffers and their friends(which has happened) but the knee jerk reaction to staff or donors getting something special is extreme to me to say the least.

    • RE: Getting Young Blood Into MU*'ing

I won't say I'm "successful" in the fiction industry but I make enough writing short stories and novels to pay a few bills a month and I'll say this; I treat RP entirely different than I treat fiction writing. Just because you are good at one does not mean you'll be good at the other. MU'ing is cooperative storytelling, creating a shared narrative that is created and enjoyed by multiple people. You have to be fluid and enjoy a give and take with the narrative. When I write fiction I'm 100% in control and if I took that mentality into MUing it'd be a disaster.

    • RE: Could a MC2 or Heroic Age Supers Game Work?

I think something like his would work great. I would keep the continuity to Marvle only though. I think a game just set in the Marvel universe but OC only could work too if you set it outside of New York City. Do a Los Angeles game and focus on the heroes and villains that thrive there or something.

    • RE: Having trouble with Thenomain GMC code

If I remember correctly, yes because that's where the objects grab the DB #'s for existing objects to put on new objects.

Again, it's been a while since I've played around with the code but do you have your data-dictionary set up with the DB set on your code character bit and on all code objects?

It's been a while since I've played with the Thenomain code but if you go into the MU Support systems directory in his git you should find most of what you're looking for there.

If I wasn't full up on projects I'd be all in for this. Sadly my plate is full at the moment. I'd happily cheer lead for the project if it did get up off the ground though.

@Rinel There's also a difference between "WHITE OUTRAGE" and a small fraction of people(who may or may not be white) on a specific fansite whining about something. Again, it sucks if you're part of that community but it does not represent the larger world beyond.

    • RE: Good TV

I honestly feel bad for some filmmakers having to balance pleasing the hardcore fanbase(the only reason the material is being converted into something more mainstream anyway) and turning that material into something palatable to as many people as possible. Even the Harry Potter movies, which I thought were amazing adaptations of the novel series, had a small subset of people who couldn't believe "this small thing" or "that random thing" was left out.

    • RE: Good TV

Honestly, I'll stick with the random media articles. Why? When you go to targeted sites that seem to have 1 opinion that opinion is really only shared by a fraction of that particular site(which makes up only a fraction of the fanbase which, in turn, will only make up a fraction of people who will watch this TV show). The end result is a minimalist subset of people whose opinion will have 0 impact on the success of the show or whether or not I personally watch it. It sucks if you're a fan of those sites and you consider those communities home but, in the end, they represent a very small portion of people. And, as of yet, those opinions have not escaped into the wild. Not even The Quartering on YT is going on about any of this yet and he'll latch on to any "white injustice" topic to get hits on his channel.

You have complete strangers just randomly come up to you and rage about white injustice? Okay. That sounds reasonable.

It's funny. I often read more about people mocking the so-called "great white outrage" than I read about any actual "great white outrage". I did a number of searches on YouTube and Google with things like "wheel of time casting (insert one of the following: outrage, controversy, angry white people, uproar, screaming, and racism)" and came up with nothing. In fact, all I could find as the opposite, about how they BETTER force diversity into the series or there will be major problems.

Stan Vs Evil was one of those great surprise shows. I found it by accident just scrolling through Hulu and binged every ep they had in a weekend. Great campy fun.

You might get some problem players focused on the whole "I'm gonna fatality you, hur hur hur!" but I think they have done such a great job with the setting and lore over the life of the game that death wouldn't be any more of a problem on an MK game than any other game. To me, it's really just a huge fascinating world just ripe to be explored and adventured in.
