Thanos has become one of my all-time favorite cinematic villains. He was the man in this movie.

See, that didn't bother me because they did show howThor was really feeling at times(the scene with him and the Hulk in New Asgard for instance). I've known people who handled PTSD related situations in exactly the same way; they put on a mask of a fun-loving snarkster and buried themselves in drink. It's also a comic book movie, a separation from reality, and it led to some funny scene and, IMO, added character depth to Thor. Obviously these are just my opinions, however.

@Rinel @jibberthehut I wasn't going to comment on this movie anymore as I've encountered a lot of fanboi butthurt aggression if you mention ANYTHING negative about this movie but...I've thought about the "girl power" part of the battle and was it necessary? No, I don't think so. I also don't' think it really detracted from the scene at all and it was a kind of cool visual. I certainly wouldn't hold it against the movie. For me, I think they could have cut the first half hour or so easily in half and lost nothing but that time from the movie. Don't get me wrong, there was a lot of good stuff there but it's stuff I would have much rather seen in a director's cut of the movie instead of the theatrical release.

It won't be FASERIP. Not a direct copy of it anyway but I'd be lying if I said that FASERIP wasn't a huge inspiration for the Power Grid system we do use. In fact, I actually have a FASERIP conversion page for the wiki to convert old character writeups to the Power Grid system on the game.

Found a bit of good news this morning. Apparently last year, for fun, I coded up a FASERIP style system in Ares. I think I can modify this for use on H&V pretty easily. At least that's my hope. 🙂

I'd be all for it. Anything nasty I have to say about a game I say to people via some other messenger service anyway.

That's my plan. When we reopen to have a "pre-opening" for returning players to reclaim characters from the original opening.

I thought I'd post an update here as well as on the MUX. I've decided to take the game down for the time being. My intention is to rebuild it on an Ares server to take advantage of the web integration and then relaunch the game in a few months. I really do like the game, I love the theme, and I've had a blast with the people that I've met there but I feel I can't maintain an open place and put in the effort to rebuild it from the ground up on another server at the same time. My hope is to relaunch the game sometime this summer. Thanks.

@Ganymede I'm not saying there wasn't a story there. I've said many, many times to people I know IRL that there was a good story to be told in Man of Steel, Zack Snyder just wasn't the guy to tell it. In both The Man of Steel and Batman vs Superman I think there were ample opportunities character depth and development...Zack Snyder just ignored them all.

And I didn't need an explanation for why he screamed at the end. I got it. My point is if you yawned and missed that scream? You'd see no further impact of that moment on Superman at all. A primal scream in a vacuum means nothing and that's all we got. Why? Because it looked cool at that moment and then Zack Snyder, with his goldfish memory, forgot about it and moved on looking for his next cool shot.

I think one of the main issues with Zack Snyder(and I think this was very evident in Sucker Punch) is that he's more concerned with "how cool does this scene look?" without caring about how the scene impacts the character or the overall story. Take the Man of Steel; Superman kills Zod after a fight that nearly levels Metropolis to the ground. What did we get to show either of these events impacted Superman on any level? He screamed. That's it. It's never touched on again, it did not further his character at all, it provided no sort of story-based development.

@Arkandel True. I think that shows in the fact that he directed Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman, and Justice League. All of which came out in, what, a 4 year period? None of the movies got the attention they deserved(aside from maybe Man of Steel I guess) and I can imagine it was incredibly overwhelming for the guy.

To be fair though, the MCU had a lot of great things going for it. Kevin Feige for sure but Jon Favreau was also a huge influencer(which was a giant shock to me), and they also got an amazing slate of directors to bring those visions to life; Jon Favreau, James Gunn, Josh Whedon, The Russos...They did an amazing job of just finding the best people for the job and knew when to cut their losses(no more Iron Man movies), fix the things that were broken(Thor Ragnarok was so much better than the previous 2 movies), and to build on the things that were successful.

DC did none of these things.

I think the problem is they tried having one person at the helm and the Snyder-verse was a total disaster. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Zach Snyder. He's directed several movies that I thoroughly enjoy and rewatch on a regular basis; Dawn of the Dead(which kind of kicked off the whole 15 years of zombies dominating the horror genre), 300, Watchmen, and even Sucker Punch. I do not think he was ready to helm an entire cinematic universe. He tried implementing a unified vision but it just came across as clunky and awkward, IMO.

And I agree about Kevin Feige, he kept the MCU focused and helped keep things reasonably paced and easy to digest.

@Ghost @Thenomain I really liked Ben as Batman. I think they could have done a lot with him had they decided to put in any sort of character depth to explain why he was so violent.

We continue to press on! As of today I've put all idled out characters into the general app pool so there are A TON of characters available for application.

I'm also scheduling scenes every Monday. We're looking to start around 6pm ET and be done with the main scene around 9pm. 🙂

I thought they were doing really well up to the last batch or so. I don't want to say what ruined it for me in case others haven't seen it but it just showed something I kind of wish they hadn't. In the end, I guess it's pretty minor and I'm still super psyched for the movie and all they just showed some stuff I wish they hadn't.

@Coin I meant Infinity War. Though given the amount of stuff that has come out in the trailers I kind of feel like I have seen Endgame.

RE: Shazam, I loved it. I think it's right up there with Aquaman and Avengers: Endgame. I liked it so much I'm planning on seeing it again. Is it perfect? No, but the problems I had with it were very minor. I thought the cast had great chemistry, it mixed humor and seriousness very well, and I left wanting to see more.
