Hey guys. It's with a heavy heart that I have to inform you all that Fallout will be put on pause indefinitely. With life being how it is for us, we're unable at this time to fully support and active player base and give them all the time and effort they deserve. We'll be locking the door to the game itself within the week, but we plan on keeping all our work thus far in hopes of opening up sometime in the future.
I'm not sure when that day will be, if ever, but the thought is there. We love the project, and we apologize for not being able to make it last longer than a few stints of life-support.
Thank you all for your amazing support for the project/game.
(if ever this gif was relevant...)
Threads died off for a good while because of Staff business and a lot of players (myself included) being RL-occupied. HOWEVER, the Staff has returned and decided they want to get things up and going again.
There will be a Search cycle soon to help kick off this new activity, so it’s a good time to get in and get acclimated. I will warn that these crazy folks have asked me to step up as Senior (mostly because I’m the only gold rider still around- bonus! means there will prob be a gold egg!). I have a lot of experience as SCo (I love writing dragons, y’all), but not so much in running things and I will likely try to find a WL who can handle most of the OOC leadership (tbh I kind of dislike how Pern games traditionally make the IC leadership also the OOC).
But if that doesn’t scare you away, please check it out: http://threadsofpern.wikidot.com/
(For those potentially curious: http://threadsofpern.wikidot.com/news-gender - women are fully equal to men on ToP and while women impress gold and men impress bronze as normal, there’s no sexuality restrictions and trans* are welcome. The only caveat is that while it’s been decided that there are herbs available for hormone treatment type things, the level of medicine does not allow for surgery. So be a gay bronzerider, a bi gold rider (my char is!), or feel more than welcome to play a trans char.)
Here's the general state of the game as well:
June 2079: A corp war between Lone Star and Knight Errant smolders as the last vestiges of an angry gang revolt in the Warrens burns itself out via an established corp-cooperative blockade. The last refuge of the SINless in Denver, is all but sealed. A black market rises in vouchers for food, water, and clothing between various alliances inside.
Outside the Warrens, just as the corporations warm up after a minor local recession, prominent Talismongers begin to disappear. And Tir Taingire operatives are lobbying the Denver Council to admit their nation as a sitting member following Lugh Surehand’s power grab in the face of an internal rebellion and Hestaby’s sudden absence, rumored as a pending resignation.
Denver’s position as the neutral ground between the four nations that now dominate the former USA more precarious than ever before. Are these disparate elements tied or is this a conspiracy of paranoia…
This tortured city has been through hell and back, but an unseen force may be manipulating forces at a tenuous time of relative peace. Will you stop it, find an angle for yourself, or be another dead chummer?
Shadowrun: Denver runs on the Shadowrun 3rd Edition ruleset
I've had some people ask about the state of the game so I thought I'd post about it here. It's going but it's going slowly. Most of the code is actually done I'm just working on the wiki now then I need to rebuild the grids(which probably won't actually take very long). The big issue is that I'm also working on another project with some people that's absorbed my time and some RL stuff has kicked off(in a good way, I'm starting to see some success in my professional writing so I've been doubling down on that). So, in short, the game is coming and I'm hoping by end of summer but no promises. I haven't given up though just got sidetracked by some other things.
I more or less went from absolute noob without any idea of how to start coding a game to absolute noob who has nonetheless managed to patch together something resembling the start of a game in about 2-3 weeks. In my case, I went at it a bit too hard and burned myself out for a bit, but it honestly isn't difficult to get started -- just pace yourself better than I did.
I also definitely second the Udemy recommendation. Learn to Code with Ruby by Boris Paskhaver is fantastic. He's thorough, methodical, and sounds a bit like Fred Savage. Mixing in the Ares tutorials when you get to the relevant points in the lesson is also definitely a big help to learning the nuances of how Ares does things.
Coming out of post retirement to say: "Right on @Griatch." :)
P.S. I just pulled your Evennia Container. I realized I needed a pet AWS project. With Shadowrun 6th edition right around the corner, the timing just seemed right.
I was one of the staffers there. Long story short, the server is majorly screwed up. Everything was fine at first, but over a period of time more and more people were unable to get a connection, even with a lot of communication between the head staffer and the host company. Eventually even I lost the ability to connect without having to retry several times and it was very hard to maintain a connection. Its supposedly an issue from a past event with the host, but no matter what the coder did they couldn't get the issue ironed out. Also, a lot of the support of the game (staff) bailed on the ship, so I didn't fight very hard toward the end. I really enjoyed the place though. It was one of the few places I played that had a active night group.
Eh, I probably still have my old Alliance char through merit of never going back to remove the vacation flag. But lazy.
Edit to add: the fact that you guys still run HSpace might actually entice me, since every other space game are run by cowards who hide from flying ships. COWARDS I SAY.
Mummy, is very, incredibly unlikely to happen.
We are looking into adding other splats after launch, if we can allocate the resources for them, namely Promethean is a possibility, as well as Skinchangers and maybe others.
As for Mummy itself, I have yet to read or hear anything that makes me think they would mix well on a MU. This could be my ignorance and maybe down the line someone will convince me, but they will 100% not be there at launch.
We will have Mage and Geist if people are feeling OP. <3
We've now been open one month. We have 66 approved characters, 23 of which are original characters. In 15 hours, the limit of 1 media character goes away so the approved character count should increase a fair amount as people add another alt, thus increasing the diversity of characters and RP opportunities.
The combat system has undergone a rehaul, lending more flexibility, faster fights, and better strategy implementation to the system.
I am now recruiting theme staffers for the MUSH, if any of you want to write theme. The theme is, again, an occult version of Batman, focusing on theological concepts inside Gotham City's mythos. It is a small MUSH, with a trio of experimental systems. The combat system, the metapowers tracking system, and the territory addition system.
If you're interested, log a character in and @mail me.
We have had some new players joining recently, and I am happy to see that we are still here and active after a little more than a year of existence.
In case of players that have been absent for a long while (over two months): Freezered players can be requested back, so don't hesitate to contact staff, if you want to return and continue stories on our game.
